  • This video is aimed at assisting homeowners in resolving tripping RCDs and RCBOs due to earth faults. If these basic steps do not help please consult a local electrician.
I hope you find this useful when the power has gone off!
    Enjoy.

Most RCDs, RCBOs and AFDDs in USA are mainly semiconductor devices now with very few mechanical elements they have in built automated self testing never need the homeowner to test they will indicate usually if not working with a sequence of flashing. With combination protective devices now the breakers combine RCDs, AFDDs within them the flash signal indicator will undergo a specific flash sequence identifying what is now working. In addition we have smart breakers providing more power quality analysis as well in effect breakers have became multifunctional, expensive but if you can afford them they are much better designed to handle transients from DC equipment. Not though with these in the panels they can run hot as these operations require power imagine 10 of them in the board and the board temperature can get upto about 75c over time that will degrade insulation on cables. The really good smart breaker ones have inbuilt heat sinks in them to get rid of that heat, but as always they can be expensive. Surprised thermal testing has not made it part of the electrical testing regime in UK.
