Prepare to cry. As little Black girls we watched this to learn about what it was like, but you don’t understand the severity of the situation until you’re older. I criiiiied watching as an adult. As a kid, it was just a long movie to me
What I love about y’all is how y’all watch a movie for the first time and catch every detail and important part of the movie. I always have to watch a movie twice to catch certain parts lol
Laurence Fishburne’s first movie was Cornbread, Earl & Me. After that he was in Apocalypse Now & this movie. After this movie he was on Pee-Wee’s playhouse, A Nightmare On Elm Street The Dream Master, School Daze & King Of New York. Those are some good movies to check out.
Thank you so much watching this film and exploring Black Cinema. This movie is a cultural treasure to the Black community and it brings me joy to see all cultures enjoying this masterpiece. It is also a adaptation of Alice Walker's novel The Color Purple.❤
This was Oprahs first movie. It was the thing that launched her into the stratosphere. She was also in Beloved and the Butler. The Butler is a true story and worth checking out.
@@strawdawgs78 he didn’t actually want to make this movie. He said he didn’t have the maturity or knowledge to do it Justice. Quincy Jones had to beg him
the color purple was also a musical on broadway. the original production lasted from 2005-2008 and it had a revival in 2015. both productions won a tony. this musical was turned into a movie which was released in 2023
Hi ladies I'm glad you finally got to watch one of my all-time favorite movies I have two fun facts for you about the movie though the first fun fact is that the girl she was singing against in the church was her daughter that she was talking about while she was in the bathtub and that's why it stopped her singing Because she heard her daughter the second fun fact is Nettie was played by a true African princess
Harpo’s friend Swain is played by Laurence Fishburne Squeak is played by Rae Dawn Chong , daughter of Tommy Chong Shug actual shows Cellie what real love is suppose to feel like. Mister’s mailbox is a character unto itself. It’s like a portal to Nettie
No Laurence Fishburne first role was when he was a teenager in 1975 a TV movie name Cornbread which my stepdad had on DVD when I was young and yes he went by Larry fishburne because Larry is short for Laurence or Lawrence
Congratulations ladies you've now earned a temporary Black Card, accepted at all cookouts. To file an extension please watch Higher Learning and Friday.
Steven Spielberg did very good translating the novel expecially for the time period of this coming out in the late 80s. In the book there was actual love scene between Shug and Ciely that was more graphic. He did a good job of still trying to incorporate the fact that there was some romance/love between Shug and Cicley despite stuff like that didn't really appear in films back then and putting them in films could get it banned.
If you ladies are novel fans, please consider reading this one. There are aspects of the book that Spielberg wasn't able to portray on film.
That's right 85 was not the original let the children know honey

Deep Cover as well. And he is to go by Larry.. later in life he change it to his government name Lawrence
Don't forget Death Wish with Jeff Goldblum. Goldblum may or may have not been in the same installment with him.

This is one of my favorite movies. It stayed in heavy rotation in my household growing up.

There go my girls. Was wondering when y'all was coming back. Good reactions 👍🏾✌🏾
So sorry! We’ve had a long month with family visiting
@@HabitualCinema I understand. Just do it whenever you can. 👍🏾✌🏾
Steven Speilberg is a sadist. As harsh as The Color Purple and Schindler's List are, AMISTAD is his most difficult film to watch

Nominated for 11 Oscars including Best Picture but didn't win any.
That’s a shame honestly
In the book, Shug and Celie had a sexual relationship.

@@DonaldMassey-c2i 😂 that’s great. We’ve seen Friday unfortunately but higher learning is definitely on the way
@@DonaldMassey-c2i watching diver, Ahmad, Black Woman, Madea reunion, and dad his little girls will give you an additional 3 to 6 months
You might miss Danny Glover a little less after this movie. Although it must be said that he struggled with this role.
Women of Brewster's Place is another movie with Oprah.
Why isnt this on patreon?
It’ll still be going to Patreon as soon as I’m able. Sorry about that. I needed to get a video edited and uploaded over here since we’d missed a week.
Both of you are so pretty 😍 and I love the reactions
The mama always gets me to girls😢
Another movie with Oprah acting and additional trauma is Beloved, based on the Toni Morrison novel.
"Hopefully danny glover is nicer than the other guy."

Do the blind side next yall would love it

He only had 3 kids in the movie
@@MeenaRuth2093 He had three kids with his wife and all of Shug’s kids were his as well. The movie didn’t say how many kids Shug had though.

This is a fictional portrayal of Black Men. My Great Granddad would never😤
It was very real for a lot of people, despite who your great grandad was. Don’t do that.
Nobody said this movie was about your great grandad or about all Black men.
@@BlamaMan no it’s not .. bw have been abused for centuries by black men… Your family doesn’t represent everybody else’s family
Thanks to whoever got them to watch this *WACK A* movie🙄 we’re off track now. Please hop back on track with the movie *FRESH*
Have yall seen Fried Green Tomatoes? If not, yall should watch that.
