Honest and forthright. This channel is an antidote to the glitzy, shouty work of some of the better-known motoring channels. The retort to buying Japanese had me chuckling as I've had to return a vehicle with only a few hundred miles on the clock years ago for similar reasons. Kudos.

Japanese cars are for the majority of people and their main goal is to drive you from A to B and last for ever. I had two Japanese cars, among others (Honda CRV and Toyota Yaris). Even the Honda CRV was somewhat cheap. But my parents had a Mazda 323 which they drove for 1 million kilometers within 12 years; literally all over Greece.
Now I own a Hyundai i20 2021, and although it's just an everyday car it looks and feels great (for its money of course).

As always, interesting comments Ethan! A breath of fresh air. The car community are so PC is sickening.
I think the problem is, a lot of car owners we see online aren't as rich as they say they are and have no idea how the world works (in terms of economics). As such, they feel themselves less empowered to call the shots to car manufacturers who invest millions, billions sometimes, in their latest product. So these 'journalists' don't dare get on the manufacturers bad side.
At the moment there isn't a more painful example of this sycophancy than the green nonsense they're pushing.
Anyway, glad to see you're on the mend. Hope you're even better by now.

Take leather for instance, we throw a fit over leather yet no one ever interacts with it. Unless you drive naked, no one sits on leather. The experience you have is of the clothes you're wearing against your skin and the cushy material that fills the seat.

Nearly the entire Porsche GT market is an inside "club" deal, fed by "connected" buyers who hardly ever drive these cars. It's a shame because they are a joy to pilot. My Porsche isn't a GT model but it's a nicely trimmed C4S that has 20k miles, drive it daily in all types of weather. It's sitting in the garage needing a wash (when I get 'round to it). They are meant to be driven. I agree with your take on the styling of many Japanese cars, the Lexus "spindle" grille is horrendous (BMW is getting into this act with their grilles) and the creases and folds on some models look like Origami, could explain their appeal in the home market(?). To their defense, Japanese cars are mostly reliable and long lasting and Korean cars have come a long way. Hope you're not too uncomfortable and quickly on the mend.

You stated it very clear, very to the point and ripped from all emotions concerning the 'banning'. The major difference in design between asian and european cars is that asian cars almost never age beautiful. They all look dated and ugly after several generations while european cars often become real gems overtime. The BMW E30 serie is still, after 30 years, a very good looking car. European oldtimers like the first editions of the Mercedes SL are design masterpieces. Such a car wil never look dated... And that one is not an exception but one of the so many.

It doesn't matter if Nissan uses PU leather, Lexus uses top grain leather, or Rolls Royce uses full grain leather, they all feel the same because they all need to be over-processed to hell to protect against daily usage, heat/cold thresholds, constant UV exposure, impacts, scuffs, etc. You're throwing meat quality out the window if you're cooking it well-done anyway. In the end, all automotive leathers more or less feel the same.

That Korean thing is clearly copied from the Alfa Romeo SZ (ES-30).

Hey Ethan, never commented on your channel before but enjoy listening to you. I've got two Porsche's at present and unbelievably four on order including a 911 Turbo S. All backed up due to Covid and this fucked up world. However I have to say one of the best cars I ever owned was a 1993 Celica with pop up headlights. I miss that car more than any of the umpteen Porsches I've owned and believe you me I love my Porsche's. If you ever get chance try an old circa 1993 Celica it will blow your mind. Anyone out there reading this I'm looking for a mint Celica, never should have sold mine.
