Tanks with lots of pest snails have more food in the system then needed. Crushing those pest snails instead of adding a feeding gives the shrimp food without adding it to the already overfed system. Basically a free protein rich feeding.
I unfortunately made a mistake of overdoing a “re plant” and large water change in my fish tank and stressed out a bunch of shrimp. I am starting over with 5 😭
Ouch. I've panicked before when my water parameters were in the "kill zone", even tho I already had established plants. Adding a bunch of plant cuttings and a water change will help right? Nope, killed everyone but the hardiest "pest" snails.

Probably the most random comment you'll ever receive on RUclips: Are you related to Moto2 motorcycle racer Jake Dixon? The voice and mannerisms are so similar! Anyway, really appreciate the videos. I'm not about to test my water hardness and see what I can grow here. I have a feeling we're soft water, so any recommendations for cheap and popular Caridina species would be greatly appreciated.
Hello Richard! My name is Alex and Ive run in to a issue with my colony of chery schrimps. The problem is muscular necrosis. Do you had this kind of problem and how you solved it? Would be you so kind to schare your experience about this and tell me please if I must call all my infected schrimp in order to solve this problem? Thank you in advance for your kindness and knowladge you schare. Have a good day ! 😊
i've got isopod and blackworm cultures in my community tank, and am working on building up a daphnia culture. i definitely do the other tips on this list, but that's my personal take on tip #1
My colony was stalled, I tried to introduced them with bloodworm definitely started to see more molts and berried female but also I notice more deaths occuring more often on the healty shrimp (not white ring of deaths). Do you think too much blood worm might causing them?
@@FishKeepingAnswers Yes I'm thinking that would be the case. Would leaving the bloodworm around 2 hours for shrimp to finish is way too long? and possibly ruins the water? Thank you!
Hi, ive been watching your videos recently, i saw the one about pests a year ago, but do you have any videos or tips for dealing with scuds? I have small white bugs in my tank and i believe they are scud, and im worried about what they could do to my blue dreams. Any help would be much appreciated!
The honest answer is I have no opinion, but there is a reason for that. My source water is naturally high in minerals. We have very hard water, which is why I choose to keep Neocaridina as opposed to Caridina. However, I have a great section on Caridina Shrimp on my Discord server if you fancy joining. There are some really knowledgeable people on there who love sharing their experiences of this hobby! discord.gg/5qb5RcDCv5
Got any tips on how to feed shrimp when theyre in a tank together with guppies or other gluttonous tank mates. Seems all the food i give the shrimp ends up being eaten by guppies.
In this situation, I would either go crushed flakes spread all over the tank (the shrimp will find it in all the cracks and crevices) or feed after lights out when the room is really dark. The guppies will ‘sleep’ but the shrimp will remain active and find the food 👍🏻
I think I have found vorticella on one of my shrimp that I have noticed. Any tips you could give would be great. Been researching today as I have only just noticed it
Protein rich frozen food definitely helps breeding! Once I got my blue dreams, they basically took off immediately! Although at least one came in berried already. I´ve put my old red cherry shrimp into the big Juwel as ´skittles´ since they weren´t doing anything but grazing. I now have a group of bloody mary´s and when I got them, they were a bit younger than the blue dreams, but I´ve seen one berried so far and last week I saw some having a bit of the zoomies. Few weeks ago, I gave my blue dreams a blue police box! Not one from the Forbidden Planet, but one from a fish shop (it's not exactly like the TARDIS, because of copyright reasons obviously).
I bought your book and find it a great resource. I can go to my “shrimp book” and find an answer to nearly any question I might have. I especially enjoy your videos and have watched almost all of them so far! Thanks so much from Southern Alabama USA 😊
Hey so I have 9 red cherry shrimp ( atleast 3 female the rest are male) for about 4 months fully planted community tank with Hillstream loaches otto’s and 6ember tetras. I haven’t had a single burried female shrimp in this time what am I doing wrong? Help! 😢
So I thought maybe however they have shown zero signs of even having eggs I thought at one point they were saddled but clearly not there’s plenty of places for them to hide and to get away. I feed them a mix of repashy, sinking pellets, flakes and they love bloodworms so diet isn’t an issue they molt perfectly too

Guppies + shrimp. Feed flake foods. Everything that falls will go to the shrimp.
And yes feed more than for just the guppies

Richard, what is that pink and yellow food you feed your shrimp?
Hi. I think it is Tetra Colour Crisps 👍🏻
Thank you Richard. ❤

I suppose it would depend how much bloodworm you were giving them. Is it possible the bloodworm spoilt the water quality?
@@FishKeepingAnswers Yes I'm thinking that would be the case. Would leaving the bloodworm around 2 hours for shrimp to finish is way too long? and possibly ruins the water? Thank you!

What kind of new leaf's do you add to your tank ( what kind do they like )
I typically use Indian Almond Leaves or Oak Leaves. 👍🏻
@@FishKeepingAnswers sorry, green leaves I guess I should have said

No one not a single video on RUclips about inbreeding shrimp
Truth be told, I have had my colony for about 10 years and never had an inbeeeding issue. Maybe its just not a problem people are facing.
What about cinnamon sticks, are they ok to also put in tank?

I have a very important question that google cant help me with.. can the antibiotic, "nitrofurazone" be used in a tank with neos?
You're my favorite Cockney shrimp keeper.
Should i change water of my shrimp, now my shrimps are babies so i have kept them in a square bowl so should i change my water?

could the tetras and loaches be eating any fry that you've had? Just a thought.
