Day walk to Cone hut, Tutuwai hut - Tararua Forest Park

Day trip from Waiohine Gorge Road end to Cone hut for lunch and onto Tutuwai hut, Tararua Forest Park. Then returning back to Waiohine Gorge Road end.
This walk took me 7 hours 35 minutes and I covered 18.75km.
Year 2022.
This walk requires high levels of fitness.

Hi. No you don't need to be super fit to get to Cone hut. It is a big climb at the start however.

Funny! Yesterday 29 Oct 2022 I parked my car in the Waiohine Campsite carpark instead of going left (to Cone Hut) I went right for an overnight in Totara flats. I came out today. The river looks down - did you do this Labour weekend?

Hey just checking - was there any river crossings that didn't have a bridge? I noticed you went down to the river but not sure if you crossed it. I will be doing this tramp in the rain and doing an overnight once I hit Tutuwai hut.

Correct. There were no river crossings to Tutuwai hut on this trip. The river bed section, is the route to Alpha hut. At this point you would need to cross the river, with no bridge. This was only a point of interest for me, for another day.
