Grew up loving auto racing because of Bobby, when he retired, latched on to Al Unser, Jr. What great memories...The 1989 Indy 500 still breaks my heart, watched it so many times, and Al Unser, Jr. still loses in the end...great race, great commentary!
Always loved to hear Bobby 89 was a heartbreaker. But isn't that what the Indy 500 is all about. That's why winning it brings some tough grown ass men to tears. S*** talk about bad luck look at Mario andretti 😂🇺🇲
My earliest memories are being outside the speedway around 67' or 68' and hearing Indy race announcer Tom Carnegie saying Bobby Unser and 5 seconds latter hearing the roar of the engine. I'm not sure if it was a ford Cosworth or a offy but it got me so excited to get inside and watch my childhood hero's, Unser Andretti, Foyt, lone star J.R. as well as many more Indy legends. I thought at the time Mario Andretti was two people, Mario and his riding mechanic Dretti because my day told many a story's of the riding mechanic back in the day.
As a pilot I loved Bobby Unser.. Al Jr. grew into a great diverse racer. But Al Sr. Al jr and Bobbie are the best.. I love AJ and Rutherford the old guard is gone.
I can now agree with you. When I was young, I used to get a little annoyed with Bobby Unser. My Dad never liked him, so I just kinda went in that direction. But now that he isn't there, I really miss his stories and insights. God Bless him!!!
I met Bobby at Willow Springs many years ago. His son was racing in the ARS series. Robby just lost the race and even so, Bobby was very gracious when I asked him for an autograph.
I remember racing at Lawton Speedway in Oklahoma and them getting on the PA to tell Little Al to get to his car. He was out riding his bicycle in the infield. LOL Great times.
While the Unsers are always awesome, I thought Sam Schmidts comments at the end totally stole the show. I always knew he was a good guy, but when he talked about how his younger drivers earned their spots and how it would be unfair to remove them, that was awesome. Plus, it was really cool to see how things operate from a team owner perspective.
I was there, it was a powerful moment... as nobody knew what was at play, I felt Sam faced mammoth pressure in that live discussion... pressure to NOT pursue some alternative avenue to get in the race. It seemed as if it was decided right then... when faced with the situation live.
I believe my father Jack Irwin raced with great grandpas raced together midgets at ascot Raceway 1930 and 1940 l am his son l have manny pictures at that time any info would be appreciated thank you Johnny
He was fond of the bottle. He was my childhood hero. If you take away his drinking, or the split, or the penske rules after 94, one of those.... He probably had 1 or 2 more 500 wins in him.
Rest in Peace, Bob Jenkins and Uncle Bobby. Two of the great ones!

Fantastic !!! Thank you , IMS Museum
Just came across this. Bobby Unser has been one of my favorite drivers, since I was young. He hasn't changed one bit. Got to love him.
I met Al Unser Jr. In Toronto
Very nice 👌 man
It is so good to hear Bobby Unser talk like this, the knowledge he has and the stories...I could just sit and listen to him talk.
As a pilot I loved Bobby Unser.. Al Jr. grew into a great diverse racer. But Al Sr. Al jr and Bobbie are the best.. I love AJ and Rutherford the old guard is gone.
RIP Uncle Bobby.
Isn't it great to see this history !!!!
No.
RIP Bobby Unser.....
What a history of the Unser family has..
Bobby remains one of the best story tellers in Indy car racing and age has not taken anything away from his wit. Irreverent and brutally honest.

THE best storyteller; for certain sure. Some of his stories are even true!
JesusHippie this is quite true
Bobby was best of the commentators

I remember racing at Lawton Speedway in Oklahoma and them getting on the PA to tell Little Al to get to his car. He was out riding his bicycle in the infield. LOL Great times.
RIP Bobby
23:15 Uncle Bobby razzing on poor ol' Sam Posey. LOL
1968 Hoosier Hundred: AJ won, Mario was 2nd, and Bobby was 16th after 8 laps due to a broken water line.

Bobby looks great.
Bob Jenkins is the best... I hope he is doing better health wise
"Wop" count: 20
Slurs definitely compromise an otherwise good evening.
What a strong team It would have been ! Nelson Piquet and Al unser Jr
What a treasure!
Bobby calling Al's races was priceless. Thanks, gents.
And yes, I agree with Bobby: Al was the fastest in the whole world at that point including F1.
I wish little Al would of stayed in Indy car series his whole career. Of course he had to go where the team went.
He did.
RIP Bobby you are missed
Al jr. could of had a great career in nascar also, a great wheel man
Al Unser bought a ride, then won,if my memory is correct, just sayin'
Want to meet BOBBY !!!!
That's the bunch that took nine of them . Wow. Supermodifieds at 16 will do that for you . 😆
Man bobby in the supers cool
Have to believe Bobby and Bob Jenkins are in heaven giving each other crap in heaven.

Ruth christ damn
Al JR does not look comfortable sitting by his uncle. I find it sad that the disease of alcoholism has put a huge dent in Al's life.
I ask al at a cleveland race signing, ," hey man, you ever see a grown man cry"? Follow me to indy, he looked at me puzzled lmao true story
Wow "when did the people go west"...I'm an Apache from that area we were there for ten thousand years before you....imagine that.
Al Jr didn’t age very well, but that’s life.
He was fond of the bottle. He was my childhood hero. If you take away his drinking, or the split, or the penske rules after 94, one of those.... He probably had 1 or 2 more 500 wins in him.
He was a raging alcoholic 🥃
Is al drunk? Srry, my bad
Ratty tat tats lmao
Standard Oil👽👺💀⚡
F1 lost a huge star.
