As a first time suzuki owner of a 2017 swift 1.0 turbo, i was thrilled to learn about its remarkable history. I just love the new swift and look forward to driving it every morning .
Thank you so much for showcasing this little weapon..I love my '94 gti. pretty stock bar wheels, suspension and exhaust..body and interior is fantastic..it's my daily and it gets me up in the morning to do the hour long drive through northern NSW country roads to work..top fun!
Surprised there was no mention of the Brame edition Swift GTi released to celebrate the racing success, only 15 made. Came with Simmons V4 wheels, leather, upgraded suspension and could option performance mods as well. Would love a set of those wheels!
Had a mk1 (1987) for 10 years, daily driver, with 360k. Better for rawness than the mk2 which was heavier and more comfy. But not as many after market parts as the mk2. Really good performance for the size of the engine, and very reliable. Nothing bad to say about the car. Cheap to fix too. Unfortunately it never became a collectors car like the supra or the evos. One day I kept the foot on the accelerator on an empty hwy ( in the NT of course ) and the minuscule 1.3L maxed out at 200km/h! right at the rev limit in 5th. I was gobsmacked. what a car.
Awesome mate!...there is some good info on redlinegti forum..and still some helpful contributors ..enjoy your swift;)..btw thats great low kms...mine has HEAPS more!
@Shannons Insurance *Thanks for sharing! In the USA the Suzuki never sold the SA version of the GTI but it did sell the SF from 1989-1991, it was a great car but for some odd reason Suzuki never marketed it properly here and few knew about it being the BETTER "GTI" when compared to the Golf GTI back then especially for the money. I wish we could bring back the simplicity, durability, and economy of these cars, heck I'd buy one of these if they made them brand new today!*
Oh man I miss my 2nd generation.. It had a set of cams and 2 inch exhaust, but man I loved that thing so quick around Wakefield park😁.. Looking on cars sales today there are none😪
There's still quite a few around but none like the original red one featured at Bathurst. Had the pleasure of seeing that car at the last major swift meet back in 2013 at QR. Mine is relatively stock looking (bar wheels, lowered suspension and exhaust) but very modified under the bonnet and suspension wise :D
I loved mine so much. I have nevr driven a FF car that was more fun, then my swift Gti. It tought me so much about driving. You don't get that kind of lift-off oversteer in modern cars.
I knew about the one make series with the Suzuki GTI but never realized of its race wins great little car we owned the five door version with the carburetor and it was a fun car to drive and always what the GTI would be like to drive our five door is one of the best cars l have ever driven and l have driven a lot of cars vans utes and trucks it was the best we now own a Suzuki Beleno GLX 2021
One of the top cars to have/modify of the Sex Spec/AutoSalon Era. FLYGTi, RBABY, ITSMAD, VLUME, LAIR, KNG13L, SCREMA, HULK, BOOM4U, GTiFRE all absolutely CLASSIC cars Some of them are still alive, most of them are either in bad shape, destroyed or are now parts cars, finding a stock one is incredibly hard, let alone one in such good condition as the one featured.
I would argue against some of those examples being termed "classic", some of them were gaudy and terrible. The car itself is definitely a classic, though.
Haha, I used to know the guy that owned KNG13L. That thing was stunning.. I had a MKII around that time xLOOKx, (She was never entered into auto salon) Fun times. I still have have a photo of FLYGTi doing a line locker.. haha. Do you remember a lime green Mighty Boy?
I like how Suzuki have chosen "Swift" for the model name of such car, Suzuki are better known for motorcycles including supersports bikes like Hayabusa.
So many were modified in the 90s that i suspect there aren't many stock ones left. Great little hot hatch that made a big impression
I've owned three, and yes they're getting harder to find in decent condition, and the ones in good condition want way too much money.

I still have my SA swift GTI I purchased new in 1988 parked in my shed. Stock standard. SO much fun to drive.
I’ve owned two MK 2’s and they are by far the best hot hatch I’ve ever owned💪💪

Rare as , definitely should of made a mention at least.

Do you remember what ignition timing degrees yours was set at?
@@murd10 from memory 5 to 9 btdc. But in reality, you keep increasing it until it knocks and then back it off by about 2.
13:37 There she is! I had that model 89 reg - black. I loved that car. I kept the name. _Swift will be with me always_
i bought mine brand new in 94 still have it in the shed ..........
No you didn’t
@@eKoV11 oh yes i did
Just bought one in great condition with 130,000 k's on it. Pod filter, extractors, bigger exhaust. Lots of fun to drive.
Awesome mate!...there is some good info on redlinegti forum..and still some helpful contributors ..enjoy your swift;)..btw thats great low kms...mine has HEAPS more!
I've owned 5 gti's. 2 mk1, 2 mk3 &1 mk2. Still have the mk2... currently turbocharging it. Great car.
You weren't a member of redlineGTi.com by any chance??
I sure am. I still visit the site from time to time.
The Swift GTi's were great cars. I owned a mk1 and mk2 from new. The mk1 was my fave.

Great little car, a future classic if you can find a good one.
Good luck finding any.. There are none on car sales. I knew a few guys that dropped the g13b engine in Suzuki mighty boys.. bloody hilarious..🤣

I thought it was that car, I was at that meet as well.

None for sale in May 2022!
Put on the racing circle hole on the back bumper
A lot of them are sold in Jamaica.
I think there's a Canadian time attacker who dropped a Honda K20 in it.
Speed academy has done a couple of videos on that car
Please adjust your seating positions. I get a sore neck just looking at you two...
Haha I know aye.
Agreed. It feels like we are intruding in their conversation. Strange set up.

If the Suzuki was impressive, what do you think of the Daihatsu Charade GTti ???
The Suzuki was the better car.
