    Anyway I still love this game and I hope Sparking Zero lives up to the hype.

    I was about to write a big thing about how wrong you were after reading the title, but this is a very good explantion about how the game works and it's honestly very rare that people actually understand it. Talk about a catchy title too...
    Tenkaichi 2 was a much more complicated fighting game, 3 toned it down quite a bit, but I don't think that was done on purpose. We'll see what Sparking Zero brings and if it leans closer to BT2 or BT3.

      1:OP definitely just read the title and go heated. 2: the title is true if you look at the game at face value. The basic move set is standardized to have a huge roster and then each character is defined by their specials, size and actual lore. I think a good comparison for this are the Mishima's in tekken. They all have a standardized tool like 1,1,2 tsunami kick, electric and hell sweep; but the tools around that base are what defines the character. An even better example actually is Sol and Order Sol from accent core. They have almost the same normals, but they are applied differently Order Sols grab wall splats in the corner for example where as regular sols is a knock down. One tool for combos the other for oki set ups. Seems to me that tenkaichi 3 is a game designed around that, which is why it ain't for me. That being said it's interesting design and unique way to add depth.

      However could this be the case?😱
      Given the chance and patience to learn it, BT3 can be an incredibly interesting game with lots to learn. Characters have many differences and quirks to master and if you delve into the mechanics and tech, you'd notice how different they are. Ki blasts, Vortex dashes, Rush Reset Combos, Speed, Grab angles, Perfect smashes, blast 1s amongst many other things help to differentiate characters and allow them to play differently. There's also memorising a character's rush strings to learn their Z-counter timings, but that's a whole other thing.
      And yes, an arena fighter on the PS2 with 161 characters, developed over the course of 3< years is going to have less character variation than a modern 2D fighter with 40-something characters like DBFZ with it's multiple DLCs. But that isn't to say there isn't any depth at all, there is quite a lot of it infact, and there's a lot that I haven't touched up on too. Just because you don't know how to play this game and how the characters work doesn't mean there aren't people who _do,_ it just means you're bad, and that's alright, but don't try to act snarky about it on your high horse when you don't know what you're talking about.

FighterZ fans say that about Budokai, Tenkaichi and Xenoverse. Xenoverse fans say that about FighterZ, Tenkaichi and Budokai. Budokai fans say it about FighterZ, Tenkaichi and Xenoverse. Tenkaichi fans say it about Budokai, FighterZ and Xenoverse.

Yeah sure the depth and uniqueness of the characters vary and these games are not equal in all aspects, but what is true is that they all have their own skill ceiling required to compete with the best, and each offers a unique experience. People say this in COMPARISON to traditional fighting games. BT3 is completely beholden to its system mechanics. If you've learnt how to engage with those i.e. learnt how to play 1 character, you can essentially play them all.
    There's a lack in variation of playstyles and all the characters share the same win condition. This is the reason why in the tier lists for the game, most characters are in B or C tier; they're all largely the same character, but other characters just do the things they do but better. This extends into the supers where most fall into one category out of: beam, ball, volley, cinematic rush, or grab, and the effects of those moves are largely universal among the cast.
    There's also the point that the mechanics themselves are unbalanced where mastering some make others completely redundant. So the sparse and honestly minute differences (Krillin's charged ki blast, Vegeta's ki rush) that do exist are also snuffed out because they are made mostly irrelevant by the games other mechanics.
    Having a couple different animations, colors and particle effects doesn't make characters unique; it's the tangible difference in playstyle and win conditions. For example DBFZ Gohan wants to power up through out the match and steamroll towards the end, or Ginyu who has vastly different combo routes depending on which Ginyu Force member is in queue, and in a tough spot can just body change WITH THE OPPONENT (and actually use the other character's moves). But then there's Nappa who's slower, but can summon Saibamen to swarm you, that plus the assists cover him as he goes into his actual combo.
    So by a traditional fighting game standard, Tenkaichi characters are extremely homogeneous and the combat mechanics lacking in depth. I really don't think people should be as defensive about this though; it's not a competitive FG, and it's not trying to be; it's trying to be a DB fight simulator, a virtual box of action figures. They SHOULD BE as homogenous as possible to maximize accessibility and ease of use. They should focus on the single player and the source accuracy for as immersive of an experience as possible, which to their credit, they've gone all in on with Sparking Zero.

    • @starmangalaxy2001
      @starmangalaxy2001 2 месяца назад +1

      It's funny that you use FighterZ, which would likely get similar critism if it wasn't 2D as a grand majority of characters all take advantage of the same universal mechanics with the same special and super inputs, to the point that 90% of characters can use the same bread and butters with their only notable differences coming from their specials, supers, and Ki Blasts. Hell the point of lunping Supers into the same general categories can apply too.
      Escaping FighterZ specifically though, theres a good handful of fighting games where the only meaningful difference in characters is their specials and Supers, but that's generally seen as fine and never is levied as a complaint.
      If you're looking for a Dragon Ball arena fighter that's really copy and paste, I'd look towards Xenoverse as literally all the normals serve the same functions universally across the cast, and even that game still gets meaningful cast diversity... Even if it doesn't get anything as interesting as Goku Mid building up 3 levels of energy for Spirit Bomb just due to Xenoverse 2's modular nature.

    • @theflashfan3234
      @theflashfan3234 2 месяца назад +2

      @@starmangalaxy2001 having different inputs is largely unimportant. Games like Battle for the Grid have NO motion inputs and are still much more complex.
      As for FighterZ, yeah of course characters take advantage of universal mechanics, like ALL fighting games. But they have character specific mechanics that allow the structure to change completely. It's a tag based fighter, the characters are intentionally made simpler because you have to learn 3 of them to play the game. Specials, supers and ki blasts are vastly different in MEANINGFUL WAYS between the characters, and trying to reduce the differences to JUST that is disingenuous, because it implies that the characters share normals and normal properties. The normals are also vastly different and can make or break a character, and it's been that way since launch. The point of lumping in the Supers also doesn't work, because it's simply... not true in the context of FighterZ. Specials and supers have impactful differences between even the same types of moves, which changes how they're going to be used by the characters. For example, many characters have Kamehameha as a special in DBFZ. But Goku, Baseku, GT, UI, Krillin, Cell all use their beam in different ways, and it changes what value that move gives to them
      As for "some games" only having specials and supers being different; A. You must be more specific, most FGs differ greatly in normals as well, B. Having specials and supers be different is good, because there is SOMETHING that is different, and that difference is meaningful to the gameplay. Whereas having that differ only in the animations they do when they do their rush and their enders, and the particle effects on their supers is a longstanding tradition in arena fighters to sell a lower effort game to fans of the IP.
      Your final paragraph about Xenoverse kind of shows that you've not played that game much. I'm not going to hold it up as a paragon of depth or complexity, because it's not; but trying to say that that its normals serve the same functions across the cast is just outright false. And it does end up doing MORE interesting things than Goku building up 3 levels of Spirit Bomb in BT3 (which is a concept that in itself has been done far better by other games)

    • @_jagger1407
      @_jagger1407 Месяц назад

      while it's true that you can learn one character and then be able to play all of them, you simply will not be able to use other characters effectively.
      A character like SSJ4 Gogeta is a beast in melee specifically, that's why in competitive matches you see people switching to Android 17 (a zoning-based character) or retreating once he is brought in, because ranged options are all bad (high B2 cost, no linking options on charged ki blasts, slow Ki charge)
      A character like Yamcha or Chiaotzu can rely on multiple Charged Ki Blasts on stage in order to create setups that no character without this property can use, if you learnt Vegeta, you cannot use these setups, lowering your effectiveness with that character
      Speed-based tech like semiflanking and animation-based tech like RRCs are also in play, only fast chars can successfully link a semiflank after flying kicks, for example.
      There's also char dependent moves like the step-in technique, which can be used to punish bad approaching attempts by the opponent, however, techniques like flying kicks must be blocked high, thus, you must change your defensive strategy based on those characters
      saying that Tenkaichis combat mechanics are lacking in depth is hilarious, because it proves that you have not spent any time actually learning its depth or meta (and no, beating the dogwater CPU doesn't count). You can absolutely say that you prefer traditional FG depth to Tenkaichi's, that is fine, but implying that it doesn't have any just because you didn't understand the mechanics is just straight-up wrong.

    • @theflashfan3234
      @theflashfan3234 Месяц назад +2

      @@_jagger1407 You're calling Android 17 a zoning based character (even though he has no ki charge, and his main gameplan consists of using his combos to set up -1 energy balls, usually point blank), and in the same sentence calling all ranged options bad, despite 17 being widely considered one of the best in the game?
      I also never said that it doesn't have ANY depth. I said in COMPARISON to traditional FGs, by traditional FG standards, it's lacking in depth. I'm personally a huge fan of especially the depth in movement of BT3 (moreso 2), and I like that it actually makes meaningful use of the y-axis in its approach when you actually learn to use it. But that doesn't mean that when it comes to practical gameplay the characters don't feel homogeneous.
      I address this in the actual comment too, that since all the characters share largely the same playstyle and win conditions, the ones that are simply worse at engaging with those mechanics i.e. have slower dash speed, lacl RRC, have a _shitty_ RRC, can't semiflank as well etc., are essentially just OUTCLASSED by those that can. Since the gameplan and playstyle for these characters is so similar, unless they possess a move as cheesy as Super Explosive Madan or Barrage Death Beam, they're unable contend with the characters at the top, as they do the same things, just better.
      You speak briefly about Yamcha and Chiaotzu having charge ki blast setups, and characters' unique step in techniques requiring different defensive approaches, and this is precisely why I say "they're all *LARGELY* the same character".
      95% of the way you'll be using all your characters is universal across the board. Having a couple setups per character, or memorizing a step in technique from a selection of 4-5 being the extent of character playstyle diversity does not speak for the depth of gameplay in my opinion.
      And coming back around to what I originally stated, I think Tenkaichi lacks in depth in COMPARISON to the diversity of playstyles and character gameplans in traditional FGs, where the characters aren't all just better or worse versions of each other across the board with differences that can only be seen when used with at least intermediate level tech, and even those being minor at best.
      I think it's rather disappointing that whenever people present a dissenting opinion towards these games, they are accused of not playing them, or if they did, then just not understanding them outright. I understand if you played these games, or still play and enjoy them a lot, and neither do I deny that people play them competitively and enjoy that too.
      But that doesn't mean that that somehow makes them something that they are not, and it doesn't change the fact, that when compared to traditional FG characters, their characters don't look, play and feel homogeneous with very minor differences.

    Regardless, it's great that you're speaking about these differences, you have a much larger audience than I do. Maybe I'll even do a follow-up video showcasing strategies/setups that rely on these differences to drag home that they can greatly influence a match

    I feel as part two fixed this issue and then part three brings it back because they needed to get the game out real quick. Part two there's so many moves that are only shared by very little characters that make sense and unique moves that are only used by that character. Maybe you can argue that some of the abilities were similar but at least they were themed and named for the appropriate character instead of Goku punching the same exact way with four different character models.

    1. BT can't use Kaio-ken Attack "Finish" without Kaio-ken but can use the Spirit Bomb...
    2. BT2 can't use Spirit Bomb without Share Your Energy but can use Kaio-ken Attack "Finish".
    Also everyone can use the 4 A combo in BT3. However the copy and paste is the same in BT2 with naming the move different but keeping the same combo Super 2 move.
    Sure the areas for the tournaments are open at specific time which is an issue, also why is Vegeta's Final Shine Attack Blue in BT3 and Green in BT2... [coloring error] More importantly SS4 Vegeta never used that technique only GT Vegeta in Super Saiyan form.

    I would love if everyone made it in the Sparking Zero. All the forms of Baby, every Gohan at every age and timeline, and even Oolong and Puar! Even if they are all just skins with voices.
    If BandaiNamco or whoever is making the game wanted for give us fighters with unique fighters, thats cool too, but I buy Budokai games to experience that childhood Toy Box fantasyland. Not so much the Street Fighter or Smash Bros. experience.

    Did you know that (i forgot exactly which base goku) goku can actually use the Destructo Disc ki blast just like Krillin? however only while jumping. that and I believe all sword characters like Dabura, Trunks, Tapion and even Yajirobe have the unblockable charged ki blast? Another thing about rush attacks, many many characters have extra combo animations after a step-in. Technically everyone has a basic 11 hit combo in BT3. A+A+A+A+A step in with dodge/dash+forward, then a direction (up down or neutral) then another 5 hit combo. which can also include rush chains as well

      characters also have a different speed at which they charge attacks, someone like Tien can always chuck out low charged Kiai Cannons, but due to smth called Melee Momentum, SSJ4 Gogeta charges his Rushing Techniques too fast to be able to use low charged kiai cannons inside a combo. How much melee momentum you can build depends on the character.
      Other things include different counter stances (some have a Step-In counter, some don't), different counter types for these stances (some smash the opponent away, others use a Heavy Finish or Kiai Cannon), the amount of ki blasts you can throw before entering a cooldown (Vegeta can throw 10, Goku only 5), same goes for dashing and ascending variants, the length of the hitstun for charged ki blasts (some knock the opponent down, others give them a longer hitstun you can use as a combo link), obviously the follow-ups for each Rushing Technique (some have Heavy Crush, some have Delta Storm, some have both, some have neither) alongside Speed-based tech (some can semiflank after Flying Kicks, others can't) and Animation-basd tech (like RRCs, Rush Reset Combos) of course.
      all of a sudden, people saying "well the chars are the same cuz like same Supers and combos" sounds stupid, doesn't it?

    • @OrangeStarHighSchool
      @OrangeStarHighSchool Месяц назад

      @@_jagger1407 this is a perfect explanation. Some character will literally do that light ki blast after two basic attacks then triangle,
      But some people like super android 13 and powered up garlic jr will stun hard even after a light tap,
      And most characters you’ll need to absolutely hold heavy attack triangle to get the full stun. There are powerhouse characters, rushers, stock ability protection characters, the only blank basic characters were throwaways like frieza soldier but it worked

    Raging Blast 2 has the most versatile fighting system, period. Nothing comes close. As Hidden explains, BT3 gave us the 4-smash system, and follow up. RB2 not only evolved this, but had employed 6 distinct fighting styles which it gave to all characters at random. This allowed you to develop your own 4-smash style, AND combine it with one of the 6 styles. They evolved the follow up system and made it a chain system, and gave us a proper cancelling aspect. Spike was genius, but RB2 didn't sell as well due to Galaxy mode, lack of characters, and rendering.

    • @edit4310
      @edit4310 Месяц назад

      What's funny about Sparking is Spike will have to re-revamp BT3's 4 smash system, and ignore what they gave us in Raging Blast 2, because not enough people cared about it. I'm hoping once DLC rinses everyone for their money we get a Sparking 2, where the advanced combo system comes back, then online will really get insane.

    Good video! almost no one plays the same. the basic structure of the game requires everyone to have the same basic schematics. Heavy finishes. flying kicks. etc. and auto combos. when you *actually* play the game is when you truly notice not only the groups (character archetypes) you notice that its a movement game and NO ONE moves the same to the point the western competitive community has tier lists now showing overral greatness, and even individual specifications like. combo damage and passive ki charge speeds, have their own tierlists and the japanese players have blogs about it. Thank you for showing some differences... PS Broly is strong. Cell along with Burter are considered the best 3 chars in game by most competitive players. even so if you know the games mechanics and tech a large amount of A to low B characters have a remarkable chance of winning.
