  • In this long term ski boot review, I talk about my experience skiing in the Hawx Ultra 130s and Hawx Ultra 130 XTD over the last two years. I’ve used them for all my skiing. The 130s for freestyle, freeriding and piste skiing and the second for ski touring. If you need a pair in Europe here’s a good deal 🇪🇺 bit.ly/EU-Hawx-ski-boot or bit.ly/EU-Hawx-ski-boot

    I'm currently running the Atomic Hawx Magna 110. Great boot with a wide last (102mm but feels wider) for my wide stompers. I had mine fitted at REI and I always look forward to wearing them since they're so comfortable. You're right about the factory insoles. They really suck. When I tried them on for the first time the lack of arch support turned me off, but that was remedied with custom fitted insoles and my feet couldn't be happier. Mine are relatively easy to get on and off without having to pull the liner out. At 5'8" and 195 lbs (intermediate level skier) I can easily flex the 110 and have wondered if I should move up to a 130 flex after next season. Can't wait to pair them with the Bent Chetler 100 I just got. Love your videos, man. Liked and subscribed.

    i got high arch narrow fot. But a few years ago i started to go through an entire boot inventory at a rental company in Zermatt. So the issue was it was either to narrow boots or to soft flex. So issue was they didn't rent 130 flex with medium to medium-wide 100/102 last. I got my hands on a pair of Nordica speedmachines 130 and it was love at first sight : ) for my feets. The wider boot keeps me warm an entire day and have excellent edge hold. Boot locks down the heel into a vice.

    I use the Ultra XTD 130 since 2 years now and although it was pricey its just an amazing boot. You can ride on the slope and do tours with it so at least you don´t need two shoes which would cost the same amout aswell. But it´s a pretty advanced boot, I would not buy this if you are a beginner or you are only 1 or 2 weekends in the snow.

    TL;DR: Get Intuition Pro Tours in your Ultra XTD if you're unhappy! - Not sure about the new Mimic liner, but in my 16/17 Ultra XTD 130, the liner wasn't just soft and thin and all over crappy, it was COLD, and I could actually feel my toe hitting the front of the boot while touring. Bought medium volume Intuition Pro Tours, which were thicker, stiffer, and for some reason my toes never hit the front of the boot so they didn't hurt, and it was a lot warmer. Another bonus is that it was easier to get into the boot with the liner on, couldn't do that with the stock one, but I couldn't get into the boot with the liner in the boot at all with the Intuitions. Didn't hurt like with the stock liners though

    Great vids! How does Atomic's flex rating compare to other brands like Fischer or Salomon? I like a 110 or 120 in a Fischer. Any recommendations for which flex to choose in an Atomic Prime? 170lbs, aggressive, 40days a year for 30+years. But I like the boot to give and absorb a bit in bumps and landings. I find really rigid 130-140 race boots way too rigid and they beat me up. Would love to hear your thoughts !!

If you have a boot that covers all your needs and you don't feel that you want another boot, than you stay with one :) For me the Hawx XTD 130 2023 that I ski for a second season is a perfect fit, but is a bit soft, so I would choose another boot for charging hard on the groomers... :)

    Buying new boots is not a fun experience. I have a strange foot and Salomon boots are the only ones that fit my feet comfortably. I use an orthotic footbed that I place in the boot. Mornings have always been an issue for foot pain while skiing and the Salomon boots really helped stoped my feet from hurting while skiing in the morning. I don’t ski enough days to justify buying new skis. When I ski I will demo a top end ski but I will travel with my ski boots. For me a. 120 flex is what works for me.

    I'll add some comments about the XTD. My brother has them. Agree with shit liner and impossible to put on or take off. He also broke his plastic base plates within a season.
    They flex like a piste or freeride 100 or 110. Good for the weight but nothing groundbreaking. The plastic is very soft, gets scuffed extremely easy by rocks when scrambling, but more importantly, bindings also deform and damage the plastic of the heel lug, it's really quite worrying. Overall quite unimpressed. 6/10

    I bought the XTD ultra 120 and I must say I'm pretty disappointed. Instead of being the best of both worlds I must say it seems like it's the worst of both worlds... On the slopes it still feels too soft and I feel like I'm not fully in control of my skis, wheres during ski mountaineering it's a bit too stiff. Next time I should probably buy just too sets of boots for each activity, and upgrading to a 130 flex instead of 120 for the piste version.

      @StompItTutorials  3 года назад +1

      Hey Sergei, I would happily also ride 120 flex but anything less than that is just to soft for firm landings and playing around with buttery tricks.
      Most or all people I ski with also ride similar boots. But if your starting out it's more important to have comfortable boots than anything else.

      Indeed, now I have quite similar boots for everything, 4-clips ones as well, Movement Wrap 4 (and, yes, with sidas insole). They are good for piste and off-piste, but heavy park trainings are often pain and suffering for me, so I think about special freestyle boots, hoping that special stuff can help me do better at least a little, with all such features like shock-absorbing and others.

    Do you feel like you have a lot of room on the top of your foot with the hawx boots? Is that normal? I have the Hawx 120 and they're the only pair i've ever owned. Fit me great but I always felt like there was too much room on top even after the bootfitter put in something to reduce the volume a bit. My liners are done now after 2 seasons - I noticed them getting compacted over first weeks. Might be time for a new boot or at least a zipfit or something. I also got the flex of the 120 reduced as they were too stiff for learning the proper technique in my level 1 & 2 instructor course. Maybe I could handle the 120s now for my level 3. Not sure.
