Wasn't character development, just modernizing the show. I'm just glad he didn't go overboard on modernizing it.
Dib and Gaz sibling-bonding is one of my favorite aspects of the movie.
It was nice to see Gaz actually helping for once. Though she does that a few times throughout the comics.

@@pillguy7029 Yep =) they'd been making them since 2015. I got all the original run in collected hardcover editions on my shelf (there's about fifty comics across those five books). After the original run they've switched to doing a Quarterly Comic which is what they're still doing. There's all sorts of wacky stories. Gaz torturing Dib with video games, Zim becoming a chair, Alternate Evil Dib, some of the ideas for the episodes that never got made even. It's like the show never ended with all the stuff they do.

@@twist_ending7545 Everybody did tbh. The art style is very different. It's much softer, more rounded edges, cutsier, with kinda washed-out pastel colors. Gaz was hit hardest by it I think, she's closer to a funco pop than the original design. Everybody can like w/e they want, but I'm really not a fan of the new artstyle.

It really shows how much of a threat Zim actually is. The only reason he doesn't actually win is usually because of his own ego sabatoging his plans.
Let's all bear in mind that Zim is still a ridiculously dangerous life form that would have destroyed/conquered the planet multiple times over if he toned down the ego a bit.
And also bear in mind that Zim is also a defective Irken and not even officially an invader and realize that anybody but Zim going to earth would have it conquered in a week.

You know, some people hate the new less creepy disturbing tone the movie took on, but honestly, I like it

That’s basically Jhonen Vasquez‘a career progression. He went from making a comic named “Johnny the Homicidal Maniac” to Zim to a slightly toned down version of Zim and now different shows with different people. It’s a real emotional journey tbh, and I admire him for sticking with it.

I kind of liked that Gaz wore brighter colors and she was actually somewhat nicer but still herself. I feel like brighter colors were nice to see because despite the show having dark themes, it was also light hearted enough to give us a good laugh.

Enter The Florpus came from out of nowhere, but I feel like it was a good, proper wrap-up to the series after all this time. I'll still always miss our little invader, but at least he has an ending that isn't a Christmas special now. Also, i don't get why people don't like the artstyle as much now. Not only is it difficult to replicate artstyles from years and years ago, but also animation quality has improved an insane amount since the series, and it would be much harder to animate the blocky, sudden-moving style in newer animation software. They did incredibly well though, all things considered. In my mind, Zim's still out there trying his best to thwart Dib's attempts to catch him and doing all he can to take over Earth and please The Tallest (spoiler alert: he can't impress The Tallest now or ever) 💚❤️💜

This isn’t an improvement. This is cheap animation. The original Invader Zim was known for extremely high quality and expensive animation. This looks unprofessional, like a fan made it on his home computer or something.
The thing with the art style change too is that it didn’t happen because Nickelodeon wanted to cut corners or because “grrr digital animation B A D” or anything like that.
It’s just because Jhonen Vasquez’s art style and how he draws has changed substantially in the 15+ years between when the show ended and Enter the Florpus came out. And the change in animation and timing is just meant to service that more rounded art style.
And Dib gets on with his life but still fights Zim just for fun (and Tak rules the Irkin Empire now).
