Hour meters are a hit or miss. Great for scheduling and knowing maintenance. Bad if you ever re sell it.

Wrapping the hour meter wire around the spark plug wire is adequate?
Yep that is how they work.
Mechanical hour meter is better.....digital has a built in battery that dies and most cant be replaced.....
Are u sure u are not blocking too much cooling air to the motor?
Yes it only a few square inches and air still gets around it as that part I attached it to is curved and the meter is flat.
