  • December 22nd has arrived, today I am going to run my layout for the first time. The conditions are miserable! Strong wind, temperatures around 7°C and moderate to heavy rain most of the day. After the tracks are cleand and the temporary power supply for my goods shed is set up I begin to bring out my rolling stock. Train operation starts at around 3pm and lasts till 10pm. My friends and I had a blast running those trains regardless of the weather conditions!

      Most folks don’t work with a plan as you have. You showed a lot of great techniques that other outdoor modelers could use. I’m a gardener as well so building my outdoor RR and incorporating live plants add another dimension. Along with buildings and lights. You’re only limited by your pocketbook. Great job so far. Look forward to seeing future videos. 😊

    I hope the rain didnt damage any equipment. It certainly enhanced the visual aspect. The globules of rain on the rolling stock and the wet track and surrounds looked even better (as if that is even possible).
    Great job!

      @@summitrailway How often do you anticipate having to clean the track?

    • @summitrailway
      @summitrailway  6 месяцев назад +1

      @@jovetj A big clean up is required 2-4 times a year. You have to pick up leafs, little sticks and so on before every running session. And depending on the weather conditions I will run my cleaning wagon from time to time as well. To make it short, you can´t run the trains without doing anything but if you are on top of the game all the time the amount of work isn´t to bad.

    Ich sag nur meeeega! Die Beleuchtung der Züge kommt in der Nacht gut rüber. Besser als jeder Christbaum! 😊 Cool wäre noch Gittermasten im Bahnbetriebswerk 😉. Was ich übrigens auch stark finde, nicht bei Regen alles eingeräumt sondern weiter gefahren. Das macht Gartenbahnmodelle aus! Echt viel Arbeit gewesen, die jetzt belohnt wird. War echt cool das mit zu erleben. Hoffe es geht noch weiter! Leider habe ich keinen so großen Garten, ich komm mal mit Rollmaterial vorbei 😉! Alles Gute und guten Rutsch!

      Hey Martin, danke für deinen Kommentar. Der Nachtbetrieb ist immer eine tolle Sache, in echt kommt das noch viel besser wie im Video rüber. Deinem Wunsch nach Gittermastleuchten komme ich nach, Bahnsteige und Beleuchtung sind die nächsten Bauprojekte auf dem Weg zu einer fertigen Anlage. Nicht zu vergessen viele Gebäude. Es gibt noch einiges zu tun aber das hält mich nicht davon ab schon mal Fahrspaß zu haben! Würde ich bei regen die Modelle einpacken hätte ich sie an dem Tag gar nicht raus räumen brauchen, es war dauerregen und sehr windig... Allerdings habe ich auch an den Tagen danach viele Stunden Fahrzeuge geputzt und Wasserflecken weg poliert, da muss man dann halt durch. Guten Start ins neue Jahr!

    * * * B E A U T I F U L * * * Now I understand the need for so many tracks in the yard. You have a lot of cars. I like the way you had to maneuver in the beginning of the video. It reminded me of John Allen's timesaver and other switching puzzles. Switching trains is also fun... and sometimes challenging too. Ingenious way to hide the shed power supply btw! I was surprised to see the rolling stock in the rain. It does not degrade them? Also the place where you store the rolling stock seems close to the yard. Any plans to drive some tracks directly through the wall? I wish you happy end of the year. I am looking forward to follow your projects all the best to you and your family. As every train addict knows, you need an understanding and patient partner when you are affected by the train virus. Thank you for the time, patience and additional work you have done to share your project with us. Filming and editing takes time. And you are skilled in that area too. All the best!

    • @summitrailway
      @summitrailway  6 месяцев назад +3

      Thank you very much! As of today the layout is to small to accommodate all my rolling stock. Not to mention some guest trains of my friends which will be brought to all the bigger events during the year. Because of the bad weather conditions I only used the weather resistant rolling stock which will not be damaged through rain. But I have to say cleaning up every single piece of rolling stock afterwards took me 9 hours in total since ther was splashes of dirt and water stains all over the vehicles. It´s no permanent damage but you have to use soapy water and microfiber cloth to wipe it off. Getting the rolling stock on the track is way to complicated at the moment. I have to carry the models 60m (200ft) from the basement to the station area. As the layout reaches it´s full extenstion I will have a way more efficient solution to this problem... I am glad that you mentioned the extra time needed to make those videos. In all reality I spend 40% of the time working on my layout, the rest is nessessory for video production and editing. It takes a lot of time but the feedback I get from guys like you is worth it all day! Not to mention that I am pursuing two hobbys at the same time: garden railroading and videography! I wish you all the best and looking forward to your next comment.

    • @summitrailway
      @summitrailway  6 месяцев назад

      Since I am running my layout digital the track power stays always the same. This makes your diode trick unusable for my application. I could install a manual switch or a decoder to be able to switch those lights on or off as I wish...

      @geoffreykail9129 6 месяцев назад +1

      Could you pick up the power off the motor leads/ yes it would give a variable brightness but with the diodes on each end you'd get directional lighting. I like the idea of the decoder controlling the lights. Just thinking. You're doing a great job with your railroad.

      @@geoffreykail9129 I thought you are talking about certain passenger and freight cars. Regarding locomotives it is very simple, since every loco has a digital decoder onboard you can simply programm this funktion if the wiring in the loco is done the right way.

    Looks awesome! Have plans for any more structures in the yard area?

    • @summitrailway
      @summitrailway  6 месяцев назад

      Oh for sure! The structures are in preperation, when spring arrives I will install plenty of them. But first I need to wire up all of the switches and signals and install the plattforms in the station area. There is a lot more to do....

    You have some lovely rolling stock. I'm surprised how well it works in the rain.
    What are the plans for the future ?

    • @summitrailway
      @summitrailway  6 месяцев назад

      Rain is not that big of an issue, the wind was a challenge... The plan is to continue the build. I need to add plattforms, buildings, lights and so on. I have to wire up all of the switches, install the signals and build myself a functioning signal box. There is so much left to do!

    Amazing! The sheer amount of work involved in making garden railway. Do you plan to extend the line further?

    • @summitrailway
      @summitrailway  6 месяцев назад

      The line will be extended but first I need to finish all the detail work in the existing part of the layout.

    Moin aus Lübeck ,
    erstmal , mega Projekt welches du da machst . . .
    Wo bekommt man den Voltregler her wo den Akkustrom im Wagon runterregelst , ist ne super Idee für abgelegene Anlagenteile
    Grüße Jens

      Moin Jens! Die gibt es zum Beispiel bei E-Bay oder Amazon. Einfach nach Spannungsregler Googeln und dann schauen was du genau willst. Festspannungsregler oder einstellbare Spannung und mit oder ohne Gleichrichter. Die Dinger sind praktisch und preiswert.

      Da sagst du was, Dauerregen und Sturm hätte ich jetzt nicht unbedingt gebraucht. Aber immerhin lief die Anlage selbst unter den wiedrigsten Bedinungen, dann sollte sie auch bei gutem Wetter funktionieren :)

      @@summitrailway was hatte es mit dem Makita Akku auf sich? Das wirkte so für mich, als soll das einen Eindruck machen, dass die Anlage nur über diesen ein Makita Akku läuft, ist die Annahme richtig 🤔😅?

    • @summitrailway
      @summitrailway  6 месяцев назад +1

      @@Cendric Nein das hast du falsch interpretiert. Der Makita Akku hatte den Zweck behelfsmäßig nur für diesen einen Anlass die Beleuchtung des Güterschuppens zu versorgen weil die dauerhafte Stromversorgung noch nicht eingerichtet ist. Das passiert erst wenn auch die restlichen Lampen in dem Bereich eingebaut werden...

    How do you get the money to pay for all this stuff?

    • @summitrailway
      @summitrailway  6 месяцев назад

      I go to work earning money and saving up as much as I can to build this garden railroad. It doesn´t come easy. I am pursuing this hobby for 12 years at this point. All the stuff was bought in this big time frame although it seems like I am buying all of it right now. That´s the secret...
