I can remember a couple supreme DJs who could effortlessly blend this masterpiece into any song of the era. Dreamlike perfection.

That is one low bass! What I like about this version, as it "goes on and on and on", is how it keeps throwing new things at you all the way through. It's a long track but doesn't feel like it. And I like the choral vocals at the beginning being brought back at the end. Great backing vocals on this one!

I like this song because it still sounds new today, especially the single version. A timeless classic song.

This is one of my favourite PSB songs and this is The version I love!! I’ve listened to it so many times and still like it the same way I did back in 89.

One thing I like about this version us when it breaks down and builds back up , then there's that little jazzy vocal skat (the 'bidda, bip, bup, budda" part) which isn't on the single versions or it's remixes. It felt very "Trevor Horn-esque" with all the layering of sounds.
Also all those female singers are removed on the newer versions. I just think this is a journey of sonics and a bloomin masterpiece

Thanks, Matt. Congratulations, I believe you are the only RUclips reactor to tackle this song, and what a song! This is one of my favorite songs of all time. Ever. Toyota liked it too because they used it in a commercial for one of their cars. So so glad you enjoyed it!

Neil said: "we dared to do a version of this song with Trevor Horn".
And people implied what did Chris actually do? Trevor said "ah...that's what he does". Many of the tracks are composed by Chris before they even get to the studio.

This is actually a Sterling Void cover although Neil did write an additional verse.
The single version is markedly different although they have performed this version live.

    • @izzyworld8068
      @izzyworld8068 Год назад +2

I think the additional verse is only on the 10" version.
Sterling Void also remixed the PSB version on one of the two 12" releases

@@izzyworld8068 n fact, there are a number of different mixes of the song floating around: a single version (4:18), an alternative mix (4:46) and an extended dance mix (10:34) which appear on the 10” single, and no less than three different versions spread across two different 12” singles, including an extended version (8:47), a Tyree mix (8:55), and a Sterling Void mix (5:34). Let it never be said that the Pet Shop Boys are afraid of making the most of a song.

@@booblys2 yeah, PSB and Depeche Mode were churning out different mixes and formats in the 90s especially until the UK music industry put a limit on formats , as they squewed the chart positions,as other artists may only put out one or a few of the choice of a 7", 12", CD or cassette single

Loved your reaction! Pet Shop Boys does house, think it's a superb cover!
As good as the single is, the Introspective version is definitely a masterpiece! From the sounds to the structure, its exciting from the first to the last second.

I prefer this to the single remix version, which was less "Housey" , and sort of mixed out the harder edges of this one.

A cover of the classic house track by Sterling Void feat Paris Brightledge. This album version remains fairly faithful to the original in many ways, though as mentioned Neil added some extra lyrics. For me the single version is where they really make it their own and it's superior to this version - it manages to be even more more euphoric and optimistic, brings in harps and opera singers (Sally Bradshaw again), Tessa Niles does gorgeous backing vocals, it's faster - it's a rush. They also prefer it to the album version. Trevor Horn produced both. There is another version, released on a 10" single which is different again, more Hi-NRG with extra lyrics but they weren't entirely happy with it.

Oh yes, for me it's the 7" version as well. And I very much like the 10" version, too. Compared to these this album mix sounds very demo-ish to me. Have a listen, @Matt Snider 😉

This one’s sent you into euphoria, eh?😉 I don’t know how many tunes you’re gonna react to from the extra folder of this period, i believe the b-sides and the like. But as you’re still fresh from this reaction, pls check out the single version (lets see if you catch Chris’ “cameo” on it😉)! Cheers, Matt!

The Chris cameo is the best moment of the single, I won't spoil it , but it's definitely a pivotal part of that remix
