It is not up to a judge to define terms, unless there is a case before them for that reason. Though it may have sounded quite strange from a judge, this is the way it is supposed to be.
Impartiality might become an issue if she had defined the term and a case involving transgenders is put before her.

But you see, I _AM_ a biologist (strictly speaking I am a retired antibody-chemist, but antibody-chemistry is a form of biology, obviously, and most of my career was in the business of inventing antibody-based medications, which is a bio-science), so the fact that I can define what a woman is doesn't have any bearing on Ketanji Brown-Jackson not being able to define it because she's "not a biologist".
But this is all moot anyway, if you take the trouble to watch or read what she actually said. She was talking about the fact that many laws have "definitions" sections which define the terms used in the text of the particular law, including terms which are commonly used differently in ordinary conversation. Words like "woman", "parent", "child", "mother", "father", "caregiver", and part of the judge's job is to interpret the law _according to the definitions given in the law,_ or, if the "definitions" section doesn't include the term in question, according to current technical/scientific jurisprudence, not according to the way a stupid uneducated grunt/hick like Senator Blackburn might use the term in ordinary speech. (Oh, I shouldn't call her "uneducated": she did graduate from college with a major in ... _home economics!!!_ LOL).

@@HemiBurns The point is you can define "woman" many different ways, and a judge is supposed to define it in the way which is most relevant to the case she is presiding over and judging, according to the definition given by the relevant law itself, if it gives one. The judge is NOT supposed to walk into the courtroom carrying the burden of a pre-decided definition.

In judicial circles, Blacks comprise less than 5% of the population of all of the racial demographics in the arena that is the legal profession. Amongst qualified judges who are black, the number is in the single digits, to include both men and women. By his blatantly and overt racist and sexist selection criteria, Biden has excluded over 97% of the qualified candidate pool, thus essentially guaranteeing that we are not getting the absolutely best judge that can be chosen for the supreme court. His selection criteria automatically excludes all Whites, Hispanics, Irish, Italian, German, Swedish, Native Americans, Koreans, Cambodians, Vietnamese, Hawaiians, Alaskan Natives, Puerto Ricans, Filipinos, Indians, Chinese, Taiwanese, Laotians, Samoans, etc, etc, not to mention Black Men. This is how a sexist and racist choice, which runs counter to American values and current federal laws, diminishes our supreme court and/or any other institution for which it is the basis of selection. Case in point: see current VP. If this nominee had honor and integrity, she would decline for being chosen based on her skin color (racism) and the fact that she has a vagina (sexism). .
