Your story is inspiring man. I'm 36, been a personal trainer for 13 years, and never thought I was intelligent enough to be a doctor. I've crushed premed classes, the MCAT, and now I'm applying to medical schools this year. Thank you for putting this message out there. Congratulations on matching and best of luck in your career 💪
507. If I do not achieve an acceptance this year, I plan to retake. If you are in the pursuit of medical school acceptance, I hope you achieve the score you desire.@@Ehecatl1111
Also at SGU, missed passing term 5 by less than half a percentage last term , repeating again so currently at my lowest point, this video resonated a lot with me, thank you for sharing and I can’t wait to hear where you matched.
Small blip in the whole process. I was surprised how many doctors I have worked with that had failed a term, or even worse did not match the first time around. And look at them now, they are doctors!
@rabiasher Starting at SGU in the fall, I think you’ll be just fine. I hope you don’t mind me asking- but what was the reason you didn’t do as expected in Term 5? Asking because I do hear that this term is a beast
@@saleh3able glad to share. The 2 years at SGU are broken in to 3 passes of the curriculum tho take that loosely. In the first 3 terms (the last one is really short at only six weeks long and is tacked onto the regular T4 so it is LONG beware and they are making it even longer now) you go through the first pass of material focusing on basics and biochem and anatomy and stuff like that. In the second pass which is all of T4 and the first 6 weeks of T5, you go through the pathology and the drugs of the systems. Note also the volume of info per each module (and you have one end of module exam to test your knowledge of that module before moving onto the next one). In the first pass of material it only gets to a point of say doing two systems in one module or maybe three if it’s split over 2 exams (so like in T1 the last module CPR or Cardio Pulmonary and Renal the first exam is on Cardio and the second exam is focused on Pulmonary and Renal cuz Cardio is just that dense). All this to say the volume is manageable. It stays similarly paced in T4 as well with the path being focused to two Systems (like days CRS is Cardio and Renal Systems or RHS is Respiratory and Heme Systems). In T5, the last spiral, it is a supposed review spiral. You get three modules each 4 weeks long but now you have modules like CPRH which in effect is CRS and RHS combined along with a sprinkling of stuff from the first basic pass spiral. With me, the first two spirals of the curriculum went well, I averaged mid to high 80s (if not borderline 90s for T1). In the third spiral however I had no sense of direction in how to tackle such a volume of info, cuz before I was just going through the lectures and whiteboarding and doing questions but I was slow and I’d tasks my time which was okay then, however in T5 there is no time to be slow. Hell rn we have our CPRH exam on March 18th and even with my revamped strategy I won’t be able to cover everything in time that I want to cover. Suffice to say in the first go around I scored 62, 62, and 61 Percent on the last three exams. They were curved mind you, and cuz no one knew what to do in CPRH the curve of 15% saved me cuz the class average was 62%. However where I couldn’t get pass this 62 Barrier for a raw score, everyone else was able to and thus the curve was drastically less for me the next 2 exams. I was also bad at my clinical exams and if I had been good at them I’d have passed last time. Every point counts. So what am I doing this time? A friend of mine told me to do this at the start of T4 but I didn’t listen cuz my method of chaos was working back then (and ironically enough she had been told by a friend of hers to do this in T1 but she listened only later in T4), but it showed. DO ANKI, specifically according to the super smart friend, do the AnKing deck it is the most comprehensive deck out there, it’s a lot but if you start T1 and you get the hang of it, you’ll be breezing through T5 and also CBSE and STEP. And importantly, KEEP YOUR CARDS OPEN AND FROM T1 AND DO THEM EVERY DAY. That’s how Anki was intended to be used so that you can recall stuff over time over and over again but most people don’t do that, they do a deck for a module then freeze the deck instead of doing it alongside new cards cuz truthfully so there are a lot of cards that build up over time and it takes discipline and time. Use Anki, use Sketchy for a memory tool, look this stuff over there are multiple videos out there talking about all of this from med students, but if from day 1 you do this and keep it up, I’ll give the example of the genius who recommended this in T1 and had been doing it since T1, she just passed her CBSE and wrote her STEP exam a few days ago and I am 99.9999% confident she passed and had she been able to write STEP in Jan (SGU admin stuff held everyone back) then she’d have crushed it as easily then as well. There is a whole lot of cumulative and overwhelming info to revise in T5, use Anki from T1 and stay on top of it and T5 will be all that much easier for you. Also apologies for the essay.
You are the entire reason I am going to SGU in my mid 30s. I was afraid before I started watching you and with any luck I'll be there in a year or two. This is bittersweet though - as I know you might make less videos as a resident (understandably).
Congratulations! I'm proud of you. You're a very likeable person, and your videos give me strength when I need it to keep pushing. I wrote to you another time about how I failed first year. I just got my results back from the first test we do. I failed it last year. Got a 47. This year, I got a 72. Thanks for being a shining light.
Your story is so inspiring, thank you for sharing it. You've given me the confidence to never give up! Please keep posting so we can watch your journey, you are a true inspiration!
New subscriber here. I'm so glad I was recommended your channel. I hope you are still able to make videos in the next chapter of your journey. Congrats on matching! The recap of your story really resonated. I'm in my mid-30s and finishing my first year back in a university setting. I moved 6 hours away from home to attend my dream school, received my associates the previous year, and trying to find that balance. I'm renting a room as well, was struggling getting to classes because of car issues, had to withdraw from some classes, and trying to find work. But I know there is a light at the end of this tunnel and I will only fail if I give up. Thanks for sharing your journey!
Congrats Greg!! I've been watching your content for a few years now, and I started nursing school while you were in med school. I can't wait to see what specialty you'll be going in. I know whatever it is, you will do amazing. Seeing you match feels like everything is coming full circle! CONGRATS AGAIN!!
"you only fail if you stop" stumbled onto your video, but these are words I had to hear! infinite congrats to your insane accomplishment! job well done! Your story is truly inspiring and I wish you the best of luck :)
Congratulations!!! I too matched this week - what a relief! You are a true inspiration!! If I could give a wild guess on your specialty of choice: ortho surgery??? Haha… (given your background in personal training/maintenance work + excellent work ethics).
I never thought medical school was for me either, so I chose to become a Veterinarian. 11 years of practice and everyday pushing away that little thought that said "What about medical school?"... Finally had the confidence to sit the entrance exam and hoping to apply this year!
Congratulations!! Im a year behind ya, been failing all through undergrad and med school, been held behind so many times, but its exactly what you say you only truly fail when you quit
Your video randomly popped up as a message for me to not give up, i'm non US IMG old graduate ( 8 years ). recently moved to US just started my USMLE journey and my concern is not be able to match because my YOG but that was very inspiring 🙏🏻
I’m on the animal side of things. I’m in veterinary school about to start my clinical rotations, but have a very similar backstory to you. Always in a position of constantly struggling and always doubting if I ever could amount to anything greater. It defeated me at one point and I gave up on pursuing veterinary medicine. Didn’t come back to it till my late twenties after realizing I stopped myself from achieving greater things and never allowed myself to push harder. I love what you said “you don’t fail unless you stop”. Get that on a shirt and sell it! Very inspiring video, congratulations!
Brother! It’s so good to hear from you again and Congratulations! Miss you brother and time together on the island. Hope to see you again. I apply for match this next round. Your friend from the small Pacific island.

Congratulations!!! I'm genuinely so happy and excited for you! You've inspired so many people and without a doubt you're going to be an incredible doctor!
Congrats man, I'm a first year student at sgu and I've been following you since last semester and you're such an inspiration. Good luck in residency, doc.
Hey man, I've been watching you since your first year at Grenada. Congratulations, I know you put in hard work, very well deserved. Residency is a different type of beast. I want you to promise me one thing, when you go through residency and at the end I want you to still be a nice person. I want you to be a nice person especially to your resident colleagues. Enjoy buddy and go on a well deserved vacation. All the best,
Just saw this video, as a pre-med who has taken the mcat 3 times and now a month away from my 4th, your story is very inspiring. I relate heavy in everything you said. Congrats on the hard work Doc, based upon your journey I believe you will reach significant heights!
Dude hard things happen, unfortunately sometimes they happen while in medical school! Just one small step back, you will crush it, and thank you very much 💪
Its my first time i came across ur video but its actually what i needed rt now...yes times can be tough but keep going forward and strive for success...im currently preparing for my step 1 and lifes not easy but pushing it thru..Thanks for ur inspirational words and experiences❤
This story is great to hear. What I love hearing is that despite all of the stuff that you went through, you maintained an internal locus of control and kept grinding. You should be extremely proud of yourself. Unfortunately not all human beings are like you. I have a 31 year old, pathetic, drug addict older brother who still moans about my elderly parents "ruining his life" (even though me and my younger brother are in med school) and makes excuses about every thing that's wrong in his life being someone else's fault ("Oh, things got kind of hard so I had to start this drug again. Oh, college? No I'm too dumb for that, and it's too expensive. This person was kind of mean to me so I had to go drinking). Having been exposed to human beings like my brother, I have an enormous amount of appreciation for people like you.
I do not want to go into the details but I know EXACTLY what you are going through. Like EXACTLY. Its sad. Its frustrating. Its draining. All you can do is keep doing the best for yourself like you are obviously doing 💪
We have a very similar story. I was teaching and felt like I was just going through the motions. I wanted something harder and something I would be proud of. Went to the Caribbean met my wife and now starting residency in July.
I found this video by chance- I follow other med students - Anyway...before you could finish " I dropped out of college", I subscribed!! Congrats on your match...you are the picture of endurance :)
Congratulations mate you're gem I'm appearing for step 1 in 15 day's and this motivated me BTW I'm an IMG and please upload where you matched as soon as you can 🎉❤
Very inspiring. I just started studying for step 1, and it feels like a lonely path since I am in Italy (not so many students take usmle here) Thank you for this video, and congratulations!🥂
Congrats! I start SGU this year and your journey has been inspiring and motivated me to apply to SGU. So happy that you matched and wish you all the best in residency :)
Congratulations man, been rooting for you. As a current SGU student, I really appreciate the videos and content you make. You’re a real inspiration bro…Or rather Dr. Greg
Hello Dr.Gregory! I'm going through a rough patch myself, still trying to figure things out! your story resonates with me and your words mean a great deal, thank you and good luck! new sub!
thanks for sharing . For most people , the hard times make them stronger and able to endure and become sucessful from the hard journey of medicine . Medicine not just exams , knowledge but it's much more than than that , it takes persistence , strong mental health ....etc
I watched the whole video asking myself why didnt he mention which speciality did he match to. Got my curiosity... and at the end I figure u aren't saying that on purpose 😂😂😂😂😂 congrats man. Id guess u matched internal medicine tho... (altho a very small part of me is saying ortho since ur channel name is about muscles and stuff)

😆Yes today I know where so I be making the video on that and finally talk about specialty.
