In my opinion, anything above 65 fps is good. If I can get 60 fps ultra setting experience for 100 dollars less, I would get it.

brand loyalty is stupid and will result in you wasting money on blind convictions. Especially if you are on a specific budget, which the vast majority of builders are.
go for the best deals, go for price to performance and go for Driver coverage.

Pascal has only had one driver update which targeted overall performance specifically AMD has had at least five since Polaris launched.
It's no wonder their midrange performs better than Nvidias midrange, when they actually care enough to tweak their products.

I got a GTX 1080 TI, because I require the best performance and only the 1080 TI can provide me that right now. I picked it because I needed it now. Had AMD released VEGA now and had they provided better or equal performance but lower price compared to the 1080ti, I would have picked that.

Alexandra Aquilina there is no such thing as initial maximised potential. All hardware can be tweaked. That's why rebounds exist.
besides, it's been around a year since AMD released the Polaris gpu's and all the older gpu's just have their life expectancy enhanced further by the continued driver support.
Nvidia Wants to make money, hence they cut driver support relatively fast.
AMD wants to build a loyal customer base, so they support their older cards for as long as possible.

new process, better die = ~100 mhz higher clocks (up to ~1500mhz oc), better "chill", lower multi monitor power consumption. You can reduce power consumption by reducing voltage which are set way too high by default on most manufacturers. This is a ~130W card if tuned right.

I´ve got my xfx 480 up to 1445 mhz stable.. and let it run on 1425mhz all day usage on my 2nd pc. Heat isn´t a problem at all.. max temps during an 8 hours test were just 71 celsius which is totaly fine and normal. So basicly.. they are dropping the price.. which is nice.. and coming along with a factory oe.
But the increased frame rate beyond 1350 is just shit,so whats the point? ; (100 mhz); 8% O/C, 4.3% frame rate, 13% power increase.
Waste of bloody time and noise. Way better to undervolt at ~ 1340.

"flex their stuff" only took them 2 years for their top card to compete with the 1060. Only for the 2000's cards coming late this year. Would be a complete waste to get the 1060 or the 580
Well, Hardware specs wise, RX480 should've been *somewhat* closer to GTX1070 performance to begin with. (RX480 had around 20% better core config, while GTX1070 had 30% higher core clock. With rest of the specs being pretty much 1:1) So I wouldn't be all that surprised if RX580, having made several small fixes and improvements here and there, would outperform GTX1070 in *some* titles.
Its possible because it's GTA V. That game is optimized very well.

More than likely a mistake in setting up that graph. It wouldn't be too surprising if it were a legit win for the 580, though. AMD is no slouch in the mid-range budget department.

Rx580 is still legit in June, 2021 paired with a AMD Rhyzen 5 3600 cpu, Asus Prime450 motherboard( id get something better ..this came with my prebuild from bestbuy), and 16 gb 3000 mhz XPG Z1 Adata Ram. I've been playing all games on max settings and haven't noticed any issue.
I wish they released the RX 490 instead of a fucking rebrand....

Drivers have not been optimized the rx480 is starting to outpace the gtx 1060 in dx 12 games in some newer titles so i will definetly change my gtx 780 into a rx580.

The 8GB is why I didn't get a 1060. I was either going to get a 1070 or 480, and I went with the cheap card. The drivers suck and I don't think they're ever going to be good.
I'd love to hear your reasoning why you'd have to be an "absolute idiot" to choose a 580 over a 1060 when the two trade blows in the benchmarks shown in this very vid? It all depends what deals you can find, if you find a 580 for $30 cheaper than a 1060, then it's a good choice! If you find a 1060 cheaper, get that! For the exact same price...I think I'd go 580 as I know it'll age better vs the 1060.

well I would say AMD's decision not to ignore asynchronous computing did pay off, at first the polaris graphics cards seemed to be inferior, but now after numerous driver updates and as more and more games support DX12 and vulkan, AMD can finally pose a serious threat to Nvidia, which is always beneficial to the consumers.

Alash Als pro tip: I have a r5 1400 and it's plenty for gaming. I wouldn't get anything higher end than that with a RX 580

I bought the NVDIA because AMD failed me long time ago. 2013 i used RX270 and the driver always crashed every 30 minutes with Far Cry 3 High gaming. I never overclock or do some shaddy shit... Since that time, i never use AMD for GPU anymore... I was waiting for Vega... but right now, i still on green side, sorry...

Kellin Quinn did you even read those benchmarks? the 1060 beat the 580 in most of them, and was identical in the ones where it wasnt markedly better
Not sure if you noticed, but most of the games were repeated with different APIs (Vulkan, OpenGL, DX11, DX12) and when you consider the best benchmark for each GPU the 1060 only ties/beats the 580 in about 3 games.

Refreshing product on a different node is not a bad practice. Look what it did for maxwell to pascal. That was basically a refresh onto a smaller node. The performance jump was massive.

Thanks for the review. Currently, the RX 570 cards are selling new and used between 80 and 140 dollars. Amazon had a Sapphire RX 570 for 100 dollars and an 8 GB version for 120 dollars. These are a far better value than getting a GTX 1050ti at over 150 dollars. If you want to risk buying used, then the price can drop below 90.

I purchased the XFX RX 580 XXX Edition, I absolutely love it's performance. And I do not use the chill mode. Power saving options are zero RPM fans that do not come on until the gpu is put under load and starts heating up. Or can be selected to be on all the time.
Glen S chill isn't a power save feature it's designed to limit core clock load to reduce temps. If you're standing there doing nothing or on a pause screen in GTA you don't need the 90 fps and the load it puts on the card, or playing an old game where you get 180 fps, and your monitor is only 60 hz anyway, your card is being worked way more than necessary.

duvg1, lmao. Idk, computers are weird. Just keep in mine i own a 1060 3gb card and it DOESNT handle high settings well at all. It freezes up and has even crashed games. The 580 8gb would handle games far better. Im going to buy a 580 soon because my 1060 cant play R6S, fortnite, hunter:cotw, and more at max... the 1060 is not made for high graphics. The 580 is made for high graphics.
