I do feel like it was still a good idea for them to make WandaVision and Loki into TV shows, though I do agree shows like Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Echo, Secret Invasion should've been movies, and movies like Eternals should've been TV shows

honestly, with so many characters this really should have been a TV show so that I can get in my feels for a week on these characters
I don’t think Disney in this current time could do such things with so many characters. Maybe if they actually let creatives fully draw out and write what they want to…yeah but right now that will not happen
I can give a list of marvel shows (from D+) and reasons as to why this is true, they couldn’t even handle echo, moon knight, Hawkeye and falcon/Bucky in their own Series they just all felt bland and primarily unforgettable. Don’t even get me started on the 200 million dollar secret invasion show.. you really think they could have done enterbals. Maybe 8 yes ago or 8 years later but not in this current time.
They didn’t even have show runners for their first 5 shows, only Loki had one and that was the only good thought out show.
I agree on the whole “Eternals should’ve been a Disney+ Show” argument. As….I grew quite attached to the each character within the movie, but I do wish we can expand on their lore more.
For it to work, It would need to fit in 6 episodes apparently, because they love long episodes that feel like a movie. With time and care (Which both Marvel and Disney don’t have at the moment), They could make it 8 episodes….or more.
With so many characters, making a show seems to make more sense.
It's almost as if comics are designed to be episodic.
Or, separate movies for each character in the lead up to an ensemble film. Like, you know, the Avengers.

Why do people keep referring to the Celestial in the ocean as a plot hole? What are the circumstances in the subsequent movies where it would have been discussed? Just because there is no mention of it doesn’t make it a plot hole. Volcanoes erupting and tornadoes flattening cities are major events, but how often do you see people talking about them in daily life?

Eternals is a top 10 MCU movie for me. I think it's completely misunderstood.

Feige should work with Chow to cut the film into a Disney + series and they could steer into a second season. Flashbacks could be handled like LOST. They could add additional scenes to flesh out relationships or focus on individuals characters. The one season could lead to a second season and continue resolve the cliffhangers left at the end of the movie.
I still loved these characters and i really want to see more of them 😢
I really like the Eternals movie and the story of them and the Celestials. I was really hoping for a 2nd eternals movie

I second this. I loved the movie and was hoping for a second film. I don’t like how everyone wants the movies to just tell you everything that’s happening. Most things in movies you can see wats going just by looking at hints and wats implied. The movie doesn’t have to say their in love when it’s literally just showing u these characters falling for each other…. Like cmon 😅
I think that you are describing the typical story of superhero origins...and like you pointed, this storytelling was used in Heroes and many other series/movies. I loved Eternals precisely because it's different. I think the performances were great, the emotional depth, the photography, action sequences, everything was amazing to me. There could've been things better of course but overall I think it is a great movie just as it is.
yep - i really like the movie, but yes of course there's things that could've been better but that's the same with any movie. I really wanted a second movie to come out of this, I just hope they don't forget about the Eternals since there's so much of the cosmic side of the MCU that should be explored here, not to mention rescuing the Eternals that were taken by Arishem for Judgement - they can't forget about characters that basically saved the Earth from total and utter destruction!
it’s funny cuz i just watched this movie again sunday for the 5th or 6th time and i still think it’s one of marvels best. idk why so many people hate it but im sad there will be no sequel.

Completely agree, and have been saying this for a while now. They’d also have to make the Deviants more intimidating and real looking. Less like insubstantial CGI creations.

I highly disagree with this take, I feel that even with more characters as such as in the eternals, the tv side of Disney (Disney +) wouldn’t know how to handle them in their usual 6-8 episode release style. I mean they didn’t even have show runners for their first 5 shows which was a mistake and a obvious one at that everyone saw. They made moon knight, echo, falcon A.T.W.S, and Hawkeye all feel cheap and rushed in story telling, writing and direction! The performances were alright and rightfully so with such high acclaimed actors. Don’t even get me started with SECRET INVASUON, however with that being said, Im going to have have to do hard pass on this one …unless it was made by HBO or Amazon but that’s not their property BUT they sure as hell would make something more interesting/Gorier/ than Disney…. Screw crush needs better writers!

Very true. You are correct! Developing ten lead characters in feature length is tough, and then personality for the Deviants is really non-existent in the movie.
I agree with you. I've always felt The Eternals would have made a better limited series tv show. A lot of my friends thought the same as well. It's a shame it's too late for that now.😢
It's not too late 😁 I feel like they need to make the next chapter somehow. The movie ended on a cliffhanger. I would love it if the story continued as a series. They could still use flashbacks the same way to flesh out the characters' stories better, even those that didn't survive season 1.
Disney if you're listening: we still need Eternals the series!

Youre right enternal series would have made this so much more interesting the twist about the celestial would be the season one finale , ikaris's betrayal would be the season 2 finale ,and the emergence would be the season 3 finale we would have gotten flashback episodes , fleshed out everyones relationship drama between couples in different moments in history. I could easily see this as high budgets disney + series or even a campy , low budget cw series it has so much potential but was wasted.

As much as I hate the Eternals and wish never to see or get mentioned of any of them again, I really like this idea, Ryan. You basically tackled all my complaints about the film except the constant time skips which threw me off upon first viewing, but maybe in a show format, the time skips would've made sense as it would've been actual breathing room for each character to be properly introduced and told about their specific motivations in the story. I'm still not entirely sure about the Ikarus plot twist being woven in, but for the most part had this happened, Eternals probably wouldn't be known as Marvel's first flop. You should be a showrunner.

I don't buy Eternals as marvel's first flop. I found it far more innovative and exciting than the weird circus that was Scarlet Witch and Dr Strange show, or even Thor 4: Gorr War, for instance, as much as I love Watiti and Hemsworth. But totally agree that more would be more to tell the Eternals story. I loved the movie in part because I felt with the strength of those performances, they sold it amazingly well in the time they had--but a show would definitely be even better.

That's a very good take on it! That movie pitch is great.
These were my exact thoughts as soon as I finished watching the movie, but there was another show that immediately popped up in my head that could have been a great reference point for a 10-episode series with a very similar structure. And that is The Haunting of the Hill House - I know, completely different genres and themes, but my reference was more so towards how all of the children and both the parents have an episode from their POV, with many unique scenes and then also a good amount of overlapping scenes we had already seen but now from a different perspective, and we also had episodes to introduce and conclude the whole plot with everything woven together nicely. I genuinely thought that this whole side of MCU had very big potential.
You said they didn't expand on the relationships in the movies... yet Phastos storyline and his family seemed to be etched in well.
Yep. Been saying this since it came out. There were simply too many characters for a movie. Like, I thought Druid's story was compelling, but it had showed up and was over before you had any time to digest it.

Yeah, I have to agree with you. It seemed like there were too many characters and not enough development in the film. I honestly had forgotten all about Makkari in the film I completely forgotten about her one point until she up again near the end of the film.
I think the biggest problem with the movie adaptation is they failed to translate the timeless nature of the Eternals and the perspective they have over time and human issues.
In the Gaiman comics, Makkari is thinking in the ice for two weeks straight, meditating. Ikaris is reduced to ashes and is reborn from nothing; Ajak gives zero fucks about anything and everyone, and he even killed Sprite for the acts he commited. They really are completely different beings from us, as they have a different perspective on all subjets, which is fascinating to read.
In the movie, the Eternals personality is completely . They love, hate, and envy just the same way the humans do, and are no different in that regard. Because of that, every character comes out corny and excessibly naive for beings that have been around literally more time than humanity.

I feel like if it was a D+ show, people would say that it should've been a movie. Then SC would make a cool video about how Marvel should have went bigger and made it a movie. Then you'd talk about how the budget would've been bigger to show the scale of the story. In the end, the MCU fan base wants what it can't have.
Actually, it should have been both. All the prequel stuff, everything that happened before the current timeline should have been a show. Giving ample time to explore their characters, and how they influenced or stood by in past events. And how that effected them
Then a movie for the current events. This would have allowed more time for the new characters and current events.
While I agree/like more or less everything said in the video, I also think the film is way better than most of the Marvel fandom realise and would GREATLY appreciate if you could give more detail for why you think underrated/overhated. I've been this films defender for years now so would love to hear from someone who feels the same way.

It does on paper but it wouldn’t work out, unless it was something TOTALLY different and new for Disney + but it wouldn’t happen because Disney released sub par shows on D+
D+ said they were doing soemthing new with the MA rating, they said it was going to be dark and gritty and something we have never seen in the MCU but yet…..it was the same typical marvel not doing anything to push the MA rating, and ended rushly with the a CGI fest of magical powers to effortlessly defeat kingpin which was underwhelming and just bad. So with that I don’t trust marvel on evolving superhero cinema so why would I think they could have done An actual good eternals show. Which can be done but I don’t think by marvel in this current time, maybe 8 yrs ago or hopefully 8 yrs later.
Not trying to hate, it’s unfortunately the truth I know a good eternals show can be made

That certainly was one of my first thoughts after watching this movie. It felt to long and yet like to much was cut off from it.
I think that marvel should try to adapt the 13 episodes structure of tv shows into their shows and that the eternals was a great opportunity they missed. 1 episode for each character(including episode where you gradually see the connection and interaction between characters), 1 for the deviants/celestials and a two part finale
I said this at the theater! Absolutely should have been a show. Too many characters fighting for time, but no way to give them all enough. It could have been a fantastic show (especially if they could have structured it more along the Gaiman mini-series a few years back---my first real exposure to the Eternals and a really good read).
And how would you explain the Black Knight? Is he a character you would have introduced in a different series or movie and how would you do that?
Neil Gaiman's comic was excellent, & as someone who didn't follow these characters previously, learnt everything we needed within this story. This would have made a better movie.

Honestly would just love the original cut at 4.5 hours that they had to cut down apparently.
I am a massive fan of this movie. It's my fav MCU for sure, but I think it could have been cool as a Disney+ and maybe they can save Eternals 2 for this. I'd love an episode each centered around or even narrated by each Eternal.
I think they should have split the difference... do 6-8 Episodes of 20-30 minutes for Disney Plus; of Character work, back story and general world Building; and clif's notes of why the "Band Broke Up"...then two weeks before the release date; broadcast them on ABC as a "special event" and then open it up on Hulu the Monday before release
everybody who wants to see it and be 'up to date' can do so... Then drop a 110 minute Movie with the Bulk of the Plot as we saw it

My idea back then was at least a do miniseries fleshing out the 10 Eternals before the movie because let's be honest we barely anything about them even by the end of the film

As some what of a historical buff because of my family lineages I really didn’t have a problem with this movie. Just recently rewatched The Eternals, haven’t seen it since in theaters, and yeah think as show it could have worked better for the flash backs to breathe more. Especially scenes with the Deviants. They really needed more time.
Although I actually liked The Eternals and hoped for a 2nd movie - I do agree that given the time that the Eternals have been on Earth and the number of them, it would've been much better to have this done as a series so that we had more time to get to know each of the characters better, and the build up to the battle at the end would've been much better. I just hope they don't forget about the Eternals as there's still so much they could do with these characters! Plus there's a HUGE story there especially with the Celestials

I love your enthusiasm for the stories and their unarguable potential. The only problem is Disney. Whether or not it was a good idea, making the Eternals a movie instead of a series facilitated a larger budget, which resulted in better visual effects and the star-studded cast. If it had been a Disney+ show then the cast would have been less A-list (not necessarily a bad thing) but the visual effects would have been a lot worse (I refer you to Secret Invasion and She-Hulk).
It's also worth pointing out that time and time again, Disney have shown that they don't care about telling good stories. Their priority is to just pump out content - until that ethos changes, real fans will continue speculating about what could have been because what is actually produced will persistently disappoint.
Agreed, the Eternals has way too much hate & made me enjoy it even more once I finally saw it! It kinda makes sense with this cast why it wasn’t a Disney+ series though.
I just wished the Eternals focused on the cosmic aspect of Marvel first. But they started the storyline on Earth.
I'm one of the very few that love this film. I wish they made a follow-up series or film right away, to develop the many characters. Too bad it's not well-received.

It was a decent movie but would’ve been an amazing show if the executive trust in the complexities of comic book story writing and see them as long form novels and adapt them appropriately. Some ideas work as movies with a central theme that is quickly developed but some need time to breathe to bring people into the world and make it all make sense to them before the big fight scenes.
I've been saying the same thing for so long. It should have been a TV series than a movie. So it wouldn't feel rushed.
Should have been a show. I've said this for years. Sam and Bucky could have been a movie since we already know those guys. We needed more time with the Eternals

I thought this movie should have rebooted the mcu right after endgame. Taking place in ancient times. Setting a solid Foundation and background for Marvel going forward. This movie also could have set the stage for Kang the conqueror As rama tut, Also apocalypse, End a more accurate version of the black night.
I could not agree with you more, Ryan. Excellent plot ideas and execution! Too bad they chose the movie route. A series could have actually gotten fans invested in this part of the MCU instead of just confused as to where it all fits in.🤷♂️
Totally agree that it should have been a series. So many new characters to introduce with such a rich story. Way too much story to jam into a movie. I did enjoy the movie but it definitely didn’t serve justice to the Eternals story
This as a show def would have been better.. a stand alone show.. season one interning each character.. season 2 taking us through each time period.. and so forth

I think it should have taken place on Titan instead of earth. The eternals become the reason that Thanos' world is destroyed as the resource conflict was used to raise a celestial. The post credit scene shows them start the process on earth, only to be delayed by Thanos' snap, with it unclear what the future holds for the eternals present on earth.
