Nobody talks about this part of Dale. Sometimes you would meet him and he was happy other times he was depressed or mood swings. But Dale was under a lot of pressure regarding Michael. The media and Napa was pressing so hard because Michael losing streak. So Dale felt the pressure being he vouched for him. I think this is why Dale pushed so hard blocking. Dale jr had won already so the pressure was off there. But from my vantage point Dale was more concerned with Michael getting a win to shut up all the press and The negative people within Napa.
Never thought of it that way but it does make perfect sense especially with how loyal he was to people around him/sponsorships, wanting to please backers, etc.
