Man, what a great session. I suspect there's more to come. He tells some stories, but for those like me, who was a kid/teen watching these names he's throwing out there, they are amazing stories that really should be shared. Loved the part about Benny, he absolutely was the guy you thought he was. A lot like Harry Gant, the nice guy racer all the way through. Throw Kenny Schrader in there as well. Great stories and the list of names who would become superstars behind the wall, in the shop and on the box. I mean, who didn't he name? LOL!!! What a journey this guy has had.
Rick and Steve....can we get a little more info on the Engine Builder from Rocky Mount, NC??? I'm from Tarboro, NC about 15 miles away....thanks, love all this content....Rick I was almost brought to tears listening to your North Wilkesboro video.....
That story of the cracked head reminds me of my late model days. I was in a 100 lap feature with a busted head gasket and the motor kept getting hot but then a caution would come out just in time to let it cool down. I’d worked myself all the way up to 2nd when the last caution came out so there was a shoot out for the win. I was so happy to just finish 2nd in my first big race and being down in HP that I didn’t try that hard to win. I’ve always regretted that decision. Wish I had tried a little harder. May not have had the HP to win but I had a shot on the restart with 5 to go.
You know this is getting ready to go off the rails when Henry benfield gets in the story I wish you guys an interview Michael and Henry sometime I would love to hear those stories I was so lucky to grow up a Nascar fan in the late seventies in mid-80s the Golden age of NASCAR
The Late Great Bob Glidden sent Jack Roush to stock cars. Bob would dominate with the equipment he bought from Jack. And dominated for nearly twenty years before a rules change to the Boss 429 engines put the gm cars ahead of him. Jack Roush built a great organization.
I had a chance one time to have breakfast with jr.johnson then after ward going ride in his 39 and show me the old roads he used to run shine on I couldn't make it and regret to this day
Fellows you need to talk with my uncle Sam sommers. My uncle was 36 when he made it to Cup. Uncle Sam had 2 top fives, 1,pole. Numerous top 10s. Buddy Baker didn't do much better. .
No disrespect to buddy Baker. But ask Bobby allison, Donnie allison, David Pearson when he was alive, Cale yarborough. Who was the better race car driver. They will tell you Sam Sommers was twice the racecar driver buddy Baker was. If fact was known David ifft screwed Sam Sommers out of his ride in the 27.
True. Wasn't 46 or 48 years old when he made to cup. Also he was blindside by getting let go by M.C. if the car would have held up and given one more year. Would have won some races. 2 weeks before M.c let him go . Said nobody would ever drive 27 but Sam Sommers.
Please tell me this is a 10 part interview. I could listen to David for hours.. thanks guys.
david is the way i miss.
I wish podcasts like this were around while Harry Hyde was alive
Unquestionably, these David Ifft historical recordings rate at or near the top of the pile. Incredible......
Look at what they call racers now I miss Racers. The best Benny Parson story yet.
Maybe, My favorite interview Yet!
Had the pleasure of working with his brother Jimmy Ifft here in beautiful Youngstown Ohio. He shared many racing stories with me.
Wonderful interviews, I could listen to David tell these stories all day long.
Thank you so much Rick and Steve!

Where can I get a petty STP mug ?! 😝😉
I think they're pretty common on eBay ... must've got 'em from Richard's supplier!
Thanks
From back in the day when Nascar was a real racing problem.
wow what a great story
I had a chance one time to have breakfast with jr.johnson then after ward going ride in his 39 and show me the old roads he used to run shine on I couldn't make it and regret to this day
1:34 Steve Kinser comes to mind.

I agree with Steven Pressley

Get. Sam Sommers on. You will hear a different story

Not sure I can believe all this because I heard the Sam Sommers story from the other side.
