Love how well this song works both in and out of context as well as what it's doing subconsciously once you know the full relationship of the characters by the end of the film. And of course this was the very first song that was written because we cannot feel at all comparable to these geniuses
For some reason, this hits me the same way as some songs from little orphan, Annie. Nothing against the composer. I just hold a grudge against my second grade teacher for many things. One of which is making us rehearse tomorrow every day for 3 months only to have the 3rd graders sing it in the play. I still cringe at the mention of it.
@ it was my first introduction into public education. I would later learn my teacher regretted becoming a teacher as she did not like children. At one point mid semester she and I got into a heated argument about my leaving 15 minutes before the final bell for a dental appointment , my 6 year old self was done arguing with incompetence and I slapped her face in front of the class. She took me aside to a separate room and tried to convince me that I did not mean to do that. I was very adamant that I did and I just left( to meet my mother outside) . She never brought it up in parent teacher conferences and i was ever disciplined for the assault. I know I was in the wrong, I’m a lot older now and would probably have done the same thing knowing what I know now. Why would one become a teacher if they didn’t like children ? The ability to successfully argue with a child depends greatly on ones ability to be calm and respectful. She was neither and i was 6 soo slap happens . I never hit another teacher unless you count karate or other martial arts instructors. More to the story in another time. ( i still remember her heavy breathing and frustration, confusion and look of shock on her face as my tiny hand redden her cheek)
