Domestic, and foreign investors (as a hedge against inflation) are buying up droves of properties and making it so that the average American cannot afford rent, lot rent etc. There should be a law that prohibits citizens of other countries to purchase ANY property in the United States. Additionally- the same law should apply to American corporations. And further: no purchasing SFHomes as Air B&Bs!
Make note of what is taking place in America: Substantial rent increases, lot increases, and home prices.

I'm from South Dakota, own my own home moved in 8 years ago paying 283, now we are up to 560 ZERO amenities! I pay for everything, lights, water, sewer, trash. We had a Corporation from Oregon buy us in 2020 and doubled the rent. They have offered nothing for extras to live here. Just got our first "inspection" this year, asking that I replace/fix hail damaged trim, stain my deck, build a new deck off the back at my expense, and create a border (on their property) for weeds at my cost and repair a broken window. They are holding tenants hostage that want to leave, by making them bring these units 'up top their standards' before they can put them up for sale. They are crossing a line through the fees and what they think they can make a home owner do to exist in this court. They are improving their property at other's expense.

Its beyond time to ban hedge funds, REITs, and similar investment groups from buying up residential properties. The rules shower them with investment advantages and they are buying as assets and its no longer about their original purpose as housing. So many people have used real estate as a path to wealth that no regular person can afford to get their own house.

I bought a double wide in 2001, space rent was $410. In the next 20 years it went through many managers and a couple owners. One thing that stayed the same is the rent always went UP. But it was still less expensive then having a house (which I could not afford) and more space then an apartment. I was in Sacramento CA. Every year the rent went up and every year it was a battle to keep the yard up to their demands. I did not plant any of the hedges or trees in the small yard but was responsible for them. In 2021 rent went up to $1000 and when Isaid I was leaving they wanted ALL of the hedges and trees removed and the lot totally refilled with pea gravel. Which is NOT how I found it when I moved in. Yet, the park rules said that upon leaving the park has the right to stipulate how the lot should look when you leave. BULL SH^*&%. As I tried to sell, the management refused to allow 5 cash buyers to purchase saying they did not pass their background checks. It took me 9 months and $9000 renting an empty house, before I was finally able to sell. While I was living there I was perfectly happy, but it was always a battle over the landscaping and rent raises.

I think this narrative has been pushed by the actual culprits who take advantage of all the loopholes that enable them to pay less than their fair share in taxes. They know an unbalanced burden is left for the middle class and those trying to survive poverty to carry.
Many in this country work an unhealthy number of hours each week and their bring home pay is insufficient to meet their most basic needs. This group is rightfully exhausted and angered by these circumstances. Some at the top (especially influential individuals in leadership positions) point fingers at immigrants in hopes those of us financially struggling will grab onto this lie and run with it.
So long as a significant chunk of the nation is busy placing energy into blaming our hardships upon immigrants, the morally bankrupt crooks at the tip top will continue with this sick scheme which aids them in hoarding our resources. We could take care of our own and then some if the wealthiest in this nation simply had the decency to pay their share. Not only could there be more than enough for all in this nation to have shelter, food, and healthcare but the wealth hoarders would still have such extensive wealth that they could do whatever they wanted and fund their children and grandchildren also being able to do whatever they desired and never having to work for anything.
Immigrants not only do not receive the food and healthcare benefits that so many think they can come across the border and grab, they also pay taxes to support programs that they never benefit from.
Those of us born here who have/are being pushed around and pushed out are being taken advantage of by the privileged punks among us who have been twisting the narrative for their own benefit.

Our rent is on par with what Andy(?) said and has only increased about $50 in the last 2 years. Unfortunately, that's way more of an increase than people who have lived here much longer than me are used to. On the flip side, I would imagine that the company that owns it now has expenses that have been increasing as well because everything is going up. Once you get one home you’re supposed to carry that equity to the next home and the next home and the next home until you’re 55. if you want to buy a place in a retirement community you can pay cash for $127,000 manufactured home so you’re only expenses within the fees utilities, etc. I don’t know why this so hard. you either make the sacrifices now and work your ass or you do without when you’re old. It’s really simple.

We all love upgrades and things being made better, but this has been going on for 2 years and gets hit on hold in the winter so the winter of researchers are not unhappy.
