Tommy played that solo from I’m the One when he demoed Eddie’s actual 80’s Kramer in a video for this channel years ago. Anyone else getting emotional?
The old workhorse Destroyer wasn’t considered for the photo shoot, wonder why ? Ed keeping his secret weapon secret ? Or would it have been Ibanez not really having the brand reputation back then ? It is pretty incredible that only recently have more people realized some of his tuning hacks for the fender style trems 40 years later and they all make perfect sense coming from a mechanical function or how the system works together Eddie actually took the time to figure it out a lot of it is common sense and a lot of trial and error and it’s never going to be perfect but his genius of using accepting and exploiting its flaws
I build my own guitars, just finished a couple of these one for a client and one for me but if I ever buy another guitar it will definitely be from the Music Zoo, you guys are cool!
Ok so I am not looking to buy any EVH guitars my San Dimas gets me there and plays like a dream... But I seen these 78' Stripe being reviewed thinking they were maybe $1099 or even $1299 with a nice EVH branded gig bag... At that price point it would make sense. One pickup. No Floyd. $1899 ?!?!? I sort of get the $2k for the red/wht/blk with Floyd but long before I do any of that I would take a MIM strat refin with striped, change the pickguard to just one humbucker and pop the $15 for a nice brass nut. Boom. Frankenstrat for $750
Anyone else kind of bummed EVH didn’t include the small detail on the pickguard of there being empty tone knob holes where other knobs should be? I know it’s a small detail, but I mean, if they’re going to be releasing a replica model similar to its recent predecessor EVH Frankie, why not also really strive for accuracy as the Frankie did? Now I’m gonna have to dig into this pickguard! 🤣
Absolutely dope guitar, but I wouldn't bother getting this with the vintage style trem bar. I know you can get it to stay in tune with Eddie's method of setup and stringing of the guitar, but even Eddie didn't bother with that after he got his first Floyd
Ed was actually 23 in 1978… DLR thought it would be a good idea if they lie to the press and cut 2 years off their ages. Not that it takes away anything from what Ed did on that debut album.
Not a fan of this model. To save on production cost, Fender just cranked this out as a black & white version of the Frankie here, but the Frankie's relic work is a lot more labor intensive, making the asking price somewhat more plantable. In this case, the $700+ jump for vintage aesthetic differences and with the absence of the utility of the Floyd Rose found on the $1099 black and white non-relic stripe series makes this an absurd purchase for me.... Wholesale, how much would it have cost Fender-EVH to include: a curly maple fretboard? Maybe $30? How about their own brand EVH Frankenstein bridge humbucker over the stock Wolfgang bridge? Maybe $25? Another big letdown is the basswood body. Northern Ash has a tone to it, Eds original was Northern Ash. This upgrade a bit more premium, but maybe $80 wholesale for the upgrade. Those three upgrades and the inclusion of a hard case, and a $2000 asking price, while expensive for a Made In Mexico guitar, would not be offensive... Just still shaking my head at the asking price, but people are paying it... Margins have to be amazing on this one.
Thanks for the video; so will the EVH version only sound authentic if you do the "special set-up"? Is this setup already in place when you open the box? Also noticed the custom version has 3 springs vs 2 on the EVH - do we need to add a 3rd one to get the tone right? Thanks again!
Hi I know this is an old video, if anyone sees this and could help that’d be awesome, I just received mine in the mail and am super unhappy with it especially for a 1600$ guitar. It’s super yellowed compared to the how white it looked in the photos. Yours look super white too in the video, any reason why mine is yellowed?
The only difference in the 2 guitars is one is swamp Ash, and one is basswood. One has a $600 neck. One has a $450 neck. One says EVH on Headstock, one says Gibson. A difference of about $250. Yet, one is $1,200, and one is $20,000. I think for $18,800 I could find a swamp Ash body, paint it, and buy a Birdseye neck from Warmoth for less than $1,000. 😅
I’ve never seen or heard of any evidence of Ed doing any overbends to correct a sharp string. The strings would only go flat with left hand bends, never sharp. He did claim that he would bend with the left hand to reset the string, but I’ve never seen or heard any evidence of him doing that…only the dives to reset the guitar after the strings go flat from left hand bends.
