I really hate the fact that a lot of young people in the United States discarded jazz during the late 60s and 70s only to be the same ones to complain about hip-hop some years later. The great Duke Ellington was composing musical masterpieces up until he died. I was 10 years old when he left us and had loved jazz since I was 5 years old.

Those were the very best jazz years. All that pure individual talent manifested itself post WW2 and changed it in inventive, passionate, improvisational jazz. Enjoy this wild roller-coaster jazzy live session folks. Toodeloo’s & Cheers!

Wild Bill was a great addition to the tour and he blended well with drummer Rufus "Speedy" Jones and Cat Anderson's high note trumpet at the end of this tune. You can really hear it on the album.

et toujours cette prise de son déplorable qui nous empêche d'entendre les sur aigus fantastiques de Cat Anderson à la fin du thème !!!

You know, the English language has not developed to the point where it can describe the gift of your uncle. Guess we'll have to wait. In the meantime, let's soak up every moment of his music.

No mic or camera for the trumpet section in the Paris concert? Too bad.

A good version of an otherwise boring tune when you have heard it so often.
