Nice but why do you video this work upside down for the viewer? All of your videos are like this. I had to stand up in front of my computer and turn my head upside down to watch how the pieces should be placed in front of me the way they are in front of him. In the end I was able to get it done correctly, but it made learning a complicated art pretty confusing.
@@jamiegeller what is your experience with different types of yeasts and brands? Any preferences? I just bought SAF Gold and used it a few times for challah but I'm not sure I saw any improvement in my doughs. As per King Arthur, I thought it would make a visible difference.
Hello. Thank you so much for the informative video. I have been making all of my challahs 6 braids now. I do have 1 question - you mention something about doing 2 egg washes. Besides the last minute egg wash right before it goes into the oven, when is the first wash supposed to be?
Hi..the first wash is soon after it's been braided and put in the pan to rise before baking...then right before you bake it you do the second eggwash!happy baking
I think he meant that during this first egg wash, when the dough is firm, he can use the brush to go into the "details", or the hard-to-reach spots between the braids. The second egg wash is probably right before it goes in the oven. During that second one, because the dough is full of air, he'll have to be a lot more gentle, and trying to get into the "details" could damage the dough.
I didn't mind the talking, but constantly changing camera angles was frustrating. I suggest NEXT time you do this, have the overhead camera view the ENTIRE time of the braiding process.
No, my gosh. this is supposed to be an explainer video not some rom com between a baker and his lovely apprentice. Shoot down directly at the challa and don't move the camera, or shoot over the baker's shoulder but don't cut the shot. Instead this video cuts between unnecessary glam shots of the actors and on the opposite side of the table. Grrr.
Just came from _Frum It Up._ They sing a little song, _"Second (strand) to the top, first one to the middle (in the center)"_ to the tune of, "Row, row, row your boat". You do that once going left to right, then from right to left. Or vice versa; just as long as you alternate sides with each turn. 😊 It makes more sense if you re-watch it with that in mind. It helped me, anyway.
Love this technique gonna try. Looked simple to me and great to watch. Thanks for sharing!!! ❤
I've watched so many videos w/o any luck and, thanks to you I finally got it!! YES!! THANK YOU!!
I'm in lockdown in South Africa and I used this video to braid my challah. Thank you! Shabbat shalom
Yay, hope it came out great!
Came out beautiful!
Thanks so much ☺☺☺😍
There is no FREE CHALLAH EBOOK available. Can you please provide it? Thank you.
Thank you so much! Got it from first try
I finally cracked it! This makes the prettiest challah 😍
Yay!
Would be much more helpful if shot from the perspective of the braider!
Sorry, that is a good point, but it is much more difficult to film
Jamie Geller yes but its much more difficult to follow
@@jamiegeller Understood :)
Can you please redo the video so camera is from perspective of the person braiding? Cannot follow otherwise.
@@jamiegeller aerial shots aren't difficult to film :)
I wish the camera was facing towards the top, but I should be ble to figure it out!
Great video!
Very nice

gorgeous! what is the challah recipe? the dough looks so perfect
You can find my main challah recipe here jamiegeller.com/recipes/jamie-gellers-challah-recipe/
4 or 6 stand braids are the ones I believe in
They are great, once you master the technique they are easy

Thank u I finally got it! It's taken me years!! I'll tag u in my Instagram feed as soon as it's ready :-)
We can't find you on Instagram, hope it turned out well and so glad the video helped.
Oh! Whoops...sorry forgot to give u my handle. instagram.com/joruckenstein/
Shabbot shalom!
How do you get such a glossy, easy to handle dough? Mine looked rough
Maybe more kneading or more resting of the dough.
I am confused about the egg wash thing, u say u will go into detail later, and then the video ends. So when do u explain it??

@@tom_something You can apply eggwash after makeup or after proofing right before baking
Your egg wash looks like from whites only...is it..thought you do a whole egg to get them shiny.
The egg whites alone with make it shiny, the yolk gives it more color, just depends what you prefer.
@@jamiegeller thanks
Aggiunge solo albume???

Nice subscribed
Thanks, so great to have you.
Love this series and I follow it every year but the intro music is very loud and annoying!
So sorry
Aweful camera angle for novice braider
Very instructional video but I could barely focus on the technique that was drowned by the annoying over-talker.
Sorry you didn't like it.
Why do you have a man who may or not be Jewish and is not wearing a kippah in a video for challah, one of the most beautiful mitzvot?

She’s talking over him
Extremely difficult to follow
Agreed
Oh, sorry about that, I thought it was good, but maybe you like my older version better? ruclips.net/video/mT-diEkKAX8/видео.html

I agree, it's hard to follow the movements and learn the logical sequence. I had to pause multiple times, but I got there in the end.
Down the middle second from the right repeat
Sorry, this is No instruction, only a demonstration, that he can do it, no use for anybody else

Awful tutorial. By the time I had paused and replayed it 15 times my dough overproofed and I threw it away in frustration
