    People telling you that Akron is a great place to live, are literally smoking rocks or living an insanely sheltered life. Lived here all my life, I graduated from Buchtel High School. Dated a girl that went to St. V and got to see lejon brames play in highschool. Ive been robbed twice. I got stabbed outside of Delia Market for a pack of cigarettes in 2008, the other at gunpoint in 2011 at the gas station on archwood right there by pinkys and the asian market. In 2016 a 14 year old was shot and killed on the sidewalk at the corner of archwood and dietz a block from Garfield high school. It was a gang killing where each member fired several shots into the boys body as a right of initiation. I lived a block away at the time. You CAN live here safely, but it is not safe. If you have kids, you will ruin their lives and possibly endanger them by bringing them here and putting them in these schools. My math teacher in highschool used to let us know when k9 searches were coming so we could hide stuff on the windowsill outside the window. He did this because a lot of us had to sell weed etc to eat because our parents were junkies and would even sell the food stamps. There are crackheads everywhere. Meth heads are even more abundant as you get closer to kenmore. Just google "kenmore ohio meth" lol. Kenmore is just more Akron. Realtors will make up places like "Firestone Park", "Highland Square", "Goodyear Heights", but its all just akron. Lovingly referred to by the people who live here as "Cracktown", or "The Dirty Three Thirty" (330 area code), or Pistol Packin Akron because you're an idiot if you're anywhere out here without a pistol.

      I completely hear what you're saying. I had my flip broken into/vandalized twice in the chapel hill area. I never had any issues with my rental in good year heights. I have a guy who rented in Kenmore and was trying desperately to get a different place because he didn't want his kid to be playing in the yard and become victim to violence. I agree that most, but not all, of Akron is dangerous, only takes a few shitty people in each area to ruin it for everyone else. Thanks for sharing your stories.

    I moved back to Akron Ohio from Northern Virginia and I can agree that there are a lot of activities to do here. While I HATE the winters here, you can come here and thrive. I moved here because I was a single mom and after getting sick and losing everything, being here has offered me great opportunities to rebuild, fix my credit, save some money, and even start a business. Coming from Virginia, with pretty good schools, the truth is, Alex is correct about the school system not being that great here. Overall, if you are the type of person who can make the best of any environment, then being here won't be so bad. I have met some really great folks here, and being here is less of the rat race that the Washington DC area was.

    We live in Northwest Akron and are currently in the Firestone cluster. As a realtor, he can't tell you about individual school districts but I will say that King CLC, Miller South, and Firestone is a fantastic path for artistic children and affords them incredible opportunities to learn in an arts-centric environment. Definitely much to be said about that where the further you move out of the city center you can lose some of the arts investment due to the outlying districts struggling financially.

    I’d think the map of good and bad areas is a lot hard to work out, like in west Akron you have some of the nicest houses in Akron and a road or two over it’s bad, the street you lives on in the neighborhood matters a lot, Basic thing to look for is if it has high foot traffic

    • @sourfrog21
      @sourfrog21 3 года назад

      Totally! My school is a block away from a sketchier neighborhood but it’s pretty safe there. My street has a lot of foot traffic and runs off of a busy road that runs into downtown, but the worst we’ve had over the years in my neighborhood is a car break in down the street, a drug raid on an intersecting street, and a failed drug deal that my dad discovered in our garbage barrel before trash pickup after it was out on the curb.

    Was born there and lived in the suburbs until 20 years ago... then I escaped to the country. I don't know why anyone would want to move there.
    Here's the real truth... Akron is a prime location for Nepali immigrants. They have completely overrun the once Italian north side. It has been a major cultural shift, and has increased white flight.
    The inner city communities that were primarily built around the rubber companies (that wised up and left decades ago) are war zones.
    The northern affluent suburbs are being overrun by Muslims. Crime is much higher than 20 years ago. Traffic is awful. It's an area in decline and those who can move far away do and commute.

    I love how the presumption that $42 million to rehab an entire downtown area is some kind of spectacular number. That's the equivalent of less than 100 residential homes (a conservative number) in any major city in the country. Or maybe ONE single apartment building. I grew up in the Akron area and try to explain to people how my house cost $50k and twenty years later it's gained less than $15k in value, despite having been fully gutted and remodeled. The reason property is cheap here is because it's a matter of supply and demand. I once heard a comedian who had moved from Akron in a bit where she mentioned how all her friends said she was so lucky for moving somewhere so beautiful and fun. Her response was "You know, you can do it tool. You just pack your stuff in your car and leave."

    Sorry, this guy is a salesman. The only places around Akron to live are the surrounding towns, NOT in Akron. I've lived in Akron for over 50 years. If you are thinking of living in Akron, one word...DON'T! I live on the edge of Akron and plan on moving....not a good city period!!! And Stan Hywet is a very, very nice place to visit but not a reason to live in Akron. Drugs are rampant and the murder rate is above Chicago. This guys $50,000 house is in the hood which most of Akron is and has been for a long time now. Why no pictures of the hood and it's $50,000 or less homes, or the beggars at most highway off ramps into downtown or tent city....And LeBron as a child and his mother lived in the hood around the Crosby Street area (lots of pros walked the streets back then), not in the nicer areas. Akron is about 80% hood and 20% nice, take that into consideration when thinking of moving here. It would be fairer for you to drive around the city before trusting anyone's word including mine, but this guy hides a lot of the problems.
