Nice video! Family moved south some years ago and there’s a lot I miss about Ohio/ Summit County. The 4 seasons for sure (you get a new one every 3 months!). Also the Metro Parks you pointed out. Oh, how I took all of that for granted! I have visited many states and agree with you wholeheartedly. Those parks are a treasure. Thanks for your work.
Thanks so much for your comments James. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. The parks are truly a treasure that we tend to take for granted. If you ever decide to move back, I can help you find a house!
Thanks for your comment. A lot of people love living in Ohio, but it's not for everyone. If you decide to move and need help selling a house, let me know.
If you move to Akron for work or family do not live in the city limits. Metro and state parks are great. Live in any of surrounding small cities. Harville, Medina, Green but not in Akron. Downtown is dirty and dead. I want to get out of Ohio.
To say it's "40-45 minutes to Cedar Point" from Akron, is disingenuous, at best. As I write this at 5:00, google maps shows it to be an hour and twenty eight minute drive. I'm sure it takes even longer during the day.
Thank you so much for catching that Matt! You're absolutely right, it's definitely closer to an hour and a half drive from the Akron area. Clearly it had been a while since I had been to Cedar Point and my memory was off. My apologies!
East Cleveland is in a much better position than Akron its a Cleveland suburb so if the political junk gets out of E.C. and hands it over to Cleveland proper then University Circle can expand eastward the Cleveland neighborhoods around East Cleveland are starting to see investment and development east Cleveland would benefit greatly from Clevelands resurgence if they merged
I wouldn't live anywhere in Akron. I live outside of Akron and I too was born and raised there. I would live in my car before moving back. Akron is a hole, including Fairlawn and Montrose which both suffer with ghetto creep.
C'mon. You can't seriously honestly talk about Akron without mentioning Meth and Opioids. Akron has been at the center of both crises. I grew up in Akron, was gone for over 20 years, and came back to live out the rest of my life here. I'm an over 60 old fart who doesn't care what anyone else thinks, I tell my truth. I came back because I have family and friends here, I know the area and am comfortable here. But I'm not going to blow smoke about Akron. It's got problems. Be very careful where you consider living in the area. It breaks my heart to say it, but where I grew up, Kenmore, is a pit. A crime infested, run-down pit where gun shots are fired on a regular basis. It reminds me of Hill Valley in "Back to the Future II" when Biff got rich and took over. Don't live there. In fact the only overall decent part of Akron is the far-west side. Get in the King Elementary, or Resnick Elementary districts for Firestone High and you'll probably be fine. There are pockets of bad in just about every part of Akron. Check out the police blotter before coming to look at real estate. If you are single, living downtown is not a bad option, but know that there is only one supermarket, on the east side of downtown. Now, Akron is not that big (about 62 sq. mi.) so you can drive to another part of town in about 20 minutes to shop. That is one of the good things about the area. Outside of rush hours, it's pretty quite, especially when the University of Akron is not in session. Fairlawn is decent, but avoid the apartment area behind the bowling alley (and that is what the police will tell you if you ask their honest opinion). Most of the outer ring suburbs are OK. Hudson is for the rich and they are incredibly stuck-up and snooty. Portage Lakes was known as the "Redneck Riviera" when I was growing up, but property values took off and now it's a ritzy area as well. I will say this, having spent a couple of decades in the Washington, DC area, it never gets over 100 degrees here, and rarely gets up to 95 in the Summer. So if you hate the heat and can put up with some cold weather, it can be a better place. Of course your car will rust out in 10 years from the winter road salt...
Akron is a poor city. There's a form of happiness an optimist can discover but for the most part it's the home of poverty. There's some nice parks but you can't live in them. You'll eventually have to drive on potholes to get back to your low rent community next door to your section 8 neighbor and get ready for your mediocre wage job the next day and repeat. If you get bored you can order a pizza or go back to sit at a metro park for hours. You can go to the ma.... never mind the malls are all closed. #RollingAcresMall #ChapelHillMall Gonna have to go to Summit but most of their good stores are closed.

Sorry you had to leave. If you ever come back, I'd be happy to help you find a place to live.

We are fortunate to have both Summit and Cleveland Metroparks in our area!

When you say Akron you need to make sure you put some respect on the DRUG BUSINESS! Akron is HUGE DRUG territory with big drug clientele! 💉💊 #opioids
