The construction here on I 76 in akron is definitely needed especially the central region. The new ramp looks better than before on I 76 and I 77 going eastbound heading to Pennsylvania
I live in the Akron area and the construction is horrendous but needed. Especially the Central Interchange (OH-8/I-76/I-77 interchange). The old interchange is a style that was common in the 60's. The new ramp from I-76E/I-77 S to OH-8 N is way better in my opinion and it'll make it feel like a more modern highway.
I was just happy when I visited Akron last summer, and you were able to clinch all of the interstates (even with ramp detours still around).
Why is the Kenmore leg closed?
I stayed at a hotel on the north side of the OH 3 interchange when I clinched the eastern I-76 in 2019.
OH-3 a.k.a. The 3 Cs Highway.
I mentioned on the I-271 video that my cousin lived near the location where the video ends. Now, she's off of exit 7 on this video. In the years she has lived there, the construction in Akron has always been a mess as I'm coming from the east.
gorgeous, thanks
Question? When driving towards a construction zone, how do you feel about using the zipper technique to merge from a lane closure?
I drove through there nearly 20 years ago. It's still a mess. I-76 was originally designated as I-80 (or I-80 S) back in the 50's, but was reassigned I-76 in the 60's. It's the eastern part of the highway; the other goes from I-80 at the Nebraska-Colorado state line west to Denver, terminating at I-70 west of downtown.
They should extend the interstate to connect the two highways together someday
@@RustybeltRC This has happened with other interstates, especially in the North and East, where numbers for mainline routes are running short. I-84, 86 and 88 all have cousins to the west.
Akron has always been a mess since at least the 70s and 80s, both on a economic (due to Akron being a Rust Belt) and roadway standpoint. It's even a bigger mess now due to all the construction over the past few years, but it is MUCH needed.
Sure was some rough highway 😮
no doubt about that!
Yeah, Akron clearly has the worst roads in the state. I've been to Akron I think only 1 time before and was over a decade ago, and boy, the roads sucked big time. Glad they're fixing them now.
I never understood why they did not co-sign, I-76 (Kenmore leg) as I-277. Since I-277 is Akron bypass for I-77 only makes it logical to co-sign on I-76 to make it a complete loop and direct drivers to use I-277 to levitate some traffic from downtown.

Excuse me ODOT, why are you taking forever to reopen the Kenmore leg? Years are going by and you’ve barely made any progress…
