Exactly! I think Jean and Colin danced together quite a lot, they both toured with the Chieftains, then again in Riverdance, and then this. But having seen videos of when they toured with the Chieftains they had a spark then.

Lord of the Dance, blew the roof off of the stolen Riverdance or what was left of it by the obvious entertainment industry elite. The "River dance that once was" died after Flatley left. It's great that they tried this new idea because it worked perfectly and their partership is so amazing. They had more chemistry on Riverdance than any other couple would. They helped make Irish dancing what it is today as a matter of pure fact.
Out of all the Irish dance stage shows that followed in the wake of Riverdance, this seems to be the only one that didn't seem like a tackier imitation. The others tried to copy and one-up the epicness and spectacle of Riverdance by having even more spangly costumes and even more theatrical music, but this one took things in the other direction and tried to make it grounded and personal. Riverdance had a lot more depth than its imitators, trying to be very emotional and a little bit sexy. This one aimed to be VERY sexy.

This whole show was amazing. The Pursuit of Diarmuid and Gráinne was always one of my favorite legends that my mom told me when I was growing up, and to see it told through dance, with so much passion, and such connection between Jean and Colin, was just amazing. I wish I could find the Dare to Dance Documentary that was on the DVD. It was so interesting seeing the process of creating a show from conception to open.
I wish all Irish Dance DVDs were recorded the standard way - where you see all movement from all angles. And then a second way; for dancers - The camera just follows the footwork. Such a great production.
The Irish are rich in passion, no matter what we do or where we are. The definition of artistic impression is interpretation and coincides with the freedom of expression. If you are counting steps and worried about foot placement or posture-why call it art? This particular interpretation is beautiful with their own twist. Can we agree on that?
I must say, now that I have seen these clips from dancing on dangerous ground, I think its probably a better sequel to River Dance than The lord of the dance,
Dancing on Dangerous Ground isn’t a sequel to Riverdance, it’s it’s own production that told the story of The Pursuit of Diarmuid and Gráinne. Colin was Diarmuid, and Jean was Gráinne.
Their chemistry is incredible. When she was dancing with Michael you could see that there was no chemistry between them and it was very tense feeling. But even when Colin and Jean were in Riverdance, they had a connection that allowed them to dance so smoothly together.
First of all: THIS. IS. NOT. TAP. This is Irish dance. Secondly, don't judge a dancer by his looks... Colin does have stage presence, and wonderful chemistry with Jean, he just doesn't have that planet-sized, obnoxious ego that Flatley does.

Which is what the world loved and paid good money to see. Just like going to a Bonjovi in concert. Your going to see the man you love, his talents, his show. River Dance turned out to be the same old stiff traditional Ireland dance that bored me after the second performance. . But Flately introduced Ireland to the world. And the love of the flamboyant spice of Ireland. Not just Maw and Paw Kettle. no one is gonna travel to Ireland for Green Acres but they did for Flatley. Case Closed.

Dunn was brought in to choreograph new sequences and ended up taking Flatley's place because Flatley very quickly went on an ego trip and decided to go solo and make that gaudy knockoff show of his. I would say the success of Riverdance is down primarily to the talents of Butler and Whelan, far more than Flatley.

haxi B. Colin is very, very good, especially from a technical standpoint. But he’s much more rigid and doesn’t have Michael’s fluidity and expression. Michael is a natural showman and Colin sometimes appears to be uncomfortable on stage. The look on his face is almost as if he’s thinking “Let’s just get this over with.” Michael is clearly in his element when he’s on stage.
I really wanted to love this but I think the reason Michael was so successful is he not only highlighted but bolstered the Irish heritage ancestry made that sexy where jean is showing how you can adapt river dance into different styles of music and dance. I think flatleys just comes across in a more spectacular and whimsical way. Even if he had the ego why not? He’s brill and I prefer his show but Jean is still phenomenal and a special dancer in my heart always 🩵
Just perfect! Jean is everyman's dream of a strong yet feminine and perhaps a bit sultry woman. Colin is everyman's man just with mad skills in dance and seduction. Such great chemistry on stage and both are so very talented. Red or Blonde hair for Colin as previous commentor suggested to make him stand out more? That's too much "Hollywood Flatley for this viewer...just of course, my opinion though...
Well, let me put this into the discussion, Jean Butler is dancing Irish Dancing in this video with a fusion of tango, Tango needs to be different of what you all think it is, also I like Bernie Flynn's Style of Dance too but as someone said before is a different show and "Dance of Love" is just the same routine that she used on the "World Championships", just remember the world tittles doesn't make you a great dancer.
I don't think you're really right here. They might be similar, but Dance of Love was choreographed by then fellow castmate John Carey. And the choreography for her routine in the Worlds' were the choreography of her school

The focus is on the dancing feet. The lighting hinders what we the audience want to see. -I do realize that the dim lighting wants to give the impression of intimacy, - but that can be done in a hotel room. Light it up
this is more erotic than a tango,or maybe it's the chemistry they have.you could probably do an unerotic tango as well if there's no chemistry.whoever wrote and is playing that music has got it.it just brings the dancing to a new height and sensuousness

Same thing was true in Riverdance's tap battle dance (1996). The Irish dances tried to move their hands in the jazz style, but you could see that it was weird for them. Props for trying, they are amazing dancers anyway.
Why does any of this matter? I would rather have 10 different Irish Dance shows than two. There are many ways to evaluate who is the best, but this was a show, not a competition.
Brilliant dancing and acting. Pity this show did not do better commercially. Have often thought that they would have been more successful if they had had a more attractive and varied colour scheme. Did budget prevent them?
I noticed that too. The dark, dimly lit stage, was NOT good. The thing about theater, is that the colors, the lighting and wardrobe contribute to the story being told, as much as the music and dance do. I wanted to love this show, but I found it too dismal and depressing.🥺 The storyline itself, was also hard. Anyone familiar with West Side Story and Romeo and Juliet, knows that those 2 shows were about love gone tragically wrong. They did not have a happy ending and that is the "vibe" that I got here. Riverdance was more successful in my view because the story was of hope, new beginnings and a celebrating of different cultures through dance. By the end, you felt inspired, energized and pumped up. This show made me feel depressed and glad it was over. Not how you want your audience to feel. There is a show called Rhythm of the Dance and it not only got back to the beautiful colors and vibrance that an Irish dance show should have but again the mood was celebratory and uplifting. Jean and Colin were great dancers but this show left me with a bad taste in my mouth and I wished that a lot of things had been different. The darkness of the show, physically and emotionally, is why I believe that it was a commercial failure.😮 Such a shame for 2 dancers that revolutionized Irish dance.

I personally don't think is the best, and as I told before that song is renamed, the original title is "King of the Fairies" and her performance is just and adapted form of that dance, the best version for king of the fairies or "dance of love" is in Olive Hurley ID Videos no. 3 the complete traditional sets.

I know that the American tour of Riverdance wore Rutherfords. I wouldn't be surprised to find out that most of the pros wear Rutherfords, too.
