"People do care about power and graphics" Yea, the Minority of those people (about 10%) care about power but they don't even matter in already massive gaming market. There's way more people that actually cares about the games in the general consumers themselves than the people that only care for graphics and power. As long as Nintendo actually advertise the system with many must-buy games then they're good!
The people buying advanced hardware allow people like you to get it cheap. Without those buyers, there would be no progression in technology as everyone would just accept the status quo. That minority acts in a similar way to beta testers, or kickstarter backers. They are the consumer that tells the developer that their proof of concept is worth while. Without them, there is little to no progression. Nintendo may make great games, but great hardware means they, us, and the developers, get to take advantage of the system for a longer life span.
I'm sorry but I died laughing at the beginning. It's so perfectly suited with today's many meltdowns. Beautiful. Keep at it GX I am subscribed on multiple channels.
Oh that's just the old and cheap strategy of depicting everybody who has a different opinion as crazy people and haters. No real argument there, but hey: As long as it makes you feel better about your own ignorance :-)
Ljink 96 you have a point. i still havent bought a ps4 and now i would decide between slim and pro? nah i'll just get a switch hopefully it plays third party gamed decently.
JuCrazyBeast Didn't the Wii U come out 1 year before PS4 and Xbox One? And where's that thing gone again? Oh yeah, in the trash. If we don't count the 3DS lead, then we shouldn't count the PS4 lead on Wii U either by your same logic.
Ljink 96 That was Nintendo's fault their marketing was terrible for the Wii U and I thought it was a new controller for the Wii like others. While PS4 marketing is probably the reason they beat the Xbox so easily they saw what Microsoft did and use their own marketing against them while promoting themselves.Casuals saw what Microsoft did and then said I'm buying a PS4 cause it's cheaper and I have more freedom using it.
Ljink 96 I also didn't even say that it shouldn't count I was implying they had a head start also,The 3DS price set a lot of people off at first then Nintendo saw this, they marketed the 3DS again at a lower price, and then the 3DS sale rate had gotten much better. What I'm trying to say is they need to market this thing like crazy, need a price that's acceptable for casuals(which is probably 249$) and this most likely will be successful. If none of these thing then we know which most likely is going to happen. The PS3 in the beginning showed an example no matter how big the brand name is you are most likely gonna need both of these.(Also sorry for the paragraph.)
Yea but this is 2017, how long can this system last? bigger and bigger games will be coming, new ideas that the switch may not be able to handle in portable and maybe in docked mode. It's not just graphic, power gives use to games which have very different engines and mechanics. I can't see this looking good in a year or so. Power matters, it's not the main thing but it does help a lot of things out.
It should be noted, that while power isn't known for winning. The weaker console usually wins by a specific advantage over the others. *NES* - It forced third party to develop for it alone *Neo Geo* - Costed TOO much for the general consumer *PS1* - N64 used cartridge, which made it lose a lot of appeal/third party support *PS2* - DVD player, GameCube shot itself in the foot with the mini discs and Xbox was a new one, that couldn't get its foot in Japan *Wii* - Targeted an untapped market and became a giant fad that will most likely never happen again, while PS3 was an over priced nightmare that was Hell to develop for *PS4* - Competition Microsoft pissed everyone off before launching, and then released a console that costed more and was slightly weaker, while the Wii U on the other hand, well, no one bought it, due to the poor marketing, awful name, and lack of third party games, leading to numerous droughts If Switch is to succeed, the portability needs to be a huge selling factor to people.
SouprSpookr2020 How exactly do you test that it's "working"? It's not being sold yet. Talk is cheap. People can be excited but putting down money is a whole other thing. Just like "I'll buy the Wii U when insert game comes out" then all of those games came out and they still didn't buy it.
Roxie ღ It's the Vita all over again, "console on the go". Obviously this is actually done properly, but that wasn't a selling point for that and unless this gets the same multiplayer ports, it won't really be a selling point either. Kids might buy it because it will be the only handheld available on the market, so that didn't actually win new people over, you just moved your audience to one space.
I'm sure it will when all of your refuse to acknowledge that a GPU running at 40% of its actual strength when on the go. That probably means beyond graphics, that you will also run into very low framerates and reduced effects and particles. Games just wont look as good or play as good, which poses the question, why even bother to make it portable in the first place if its to make all these sacrifices?
It doesn't need that additional 60%. It's the difference of running 1080p to 720p. You don't need that running while mobile. It will drain your battery and run the system hot. It's an absolute waste of processing power. Where are those pixels going? Straight off the screen. Look at your phone, play a game on it. Watch the battery drain. That's the cost of running a game. Laptops are similar. Reduced particle effects are something that all console gamers are used to, the Switch isn't unique in this. Too answer your question, why even bother making it portable? The reason is because there is a market out there wanting this. Vita buyers were hoping for this, Wii U buyers thought they were buying this. Vita is relatively dead, Wii U was dead on arrival. This can combine those strengths. Great third party with better hardware.Truth be told though, it's more likely that the GPU is running at 40%, and the processor itself is still closer to 100%. This would allow the OS, and if it supports it, background applications to run without interfering with the running game.
+Desmond Hollins It does seem odd. The way I see it, if I want to see something that's really good graphics and not much else, then I'll watch a movie. Even then though, it does need to have strong acting, writing, plot, etc.
i find it hilarious how people forget gaming history. go look at the atari vs intellivision, or any of the sega vs nintendo, hell, the snes was the answer nintendo gave to sega, the n64? the freaking name says it all, 64 bit. in almost every comparison, nintendo went with "we have the best graphics". the game cube? i dont think you know this but, the biggest selling point of that console was how much better games looked in comparison to the ps2. so dont come say that only NOW we care about graphics.
seantendo001 This is a different situation entirely. This is a mobile device. This is light years beyond the 3DS in terms of strength. This device will inherit three markets. The Nintendo 3DS, the Nintendo WiiU, and the PlayStation Vita. The remaining Nintendo console audience, and the entire remaining handheld console market. This system is going to be bombarded with a steady flow of Japanese Third party games, such as Monster Hunter, Professor Layton, Phoenix Wright, Yokai Watch, Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, and many others. Also, by unifying Nintendos handheld and console developers. We'll be getting first party titles monthly at least. Mario, Zelda, Pokémon, Pikmin, Smash Bros, Splatoon 2, and Mario Kart 8+ all year one. Hits are going to land on this system so often that the specs are really gonna matter. It's the software. Pokémon alone will ensure this performs a lot better then WiiU could have ever hoped. I know the counter argument. "Handhelds are dead" right...when sun and moon sold 10 million. And the 3DS managed to sell about 65 million units. Dedicated handhelds still have a place at market. Believe it or not. About the competition. Microsoft and Sony are chasing after a ghost that isn't there. 4K isn't dominating yet. There's no point to owning a PS4 Pro, or a Scorpio for the overwhelming majority of people yet. And VR is floundering hard currently. 500 dollars for a black box that displays games at a resolution I can see because I'm too poor to afford a TV that takes advantage of it. Might as well build a PC. Why do we need 3 damn boxes that all do the exact same thing? We don't. This system will have the advantage of a really good price point. It'll win by going underneath the competition like the original Wii did.
third party devs love to use graphics as a crutch, and have sony/MS by the balls since if either company ever pissed off the third party devs their consoles would sink faster than the titanic
seantendo001 The Switch is a handheld with detachable controllers, and a docking station that puts the games on your TV. It's a damn handheld. Don't buy Nintendos marketing on this. You'll see. It's a handheld at heart. This is basically what WiiU should have been from the start. Nintendos internal competition between their handhelds and Consoles have at finally ended. Developers no longer have to make the same IP twice in a generation for two devices. And we at long last just get one device where we can play all the games at. We are going to see a lot of variety and all around just great games here. If you loved the 3DS. You'll love this.
As long as third parties don't have trouble porting their games over to the switch, then it will be fine. Nintendo fans also need to realize that if they want third party games on Nintendo consoles, then they need to support those third parties so that they have an actual incentive to bring over their games.
Scuffling Boogaloo THANK YOU!! I tried my best to support 3rd Party on Wii U and Library tells the same story. What's the point of asking and begging Nintendo to work with 3rd Party if we are not going to support it. See I think Wii U 3rd Party would have stayed if we was supporting them.
Cilverkid520 exactly, and if there is no third party support for the switch, then there is absolutely no reason to freak out over its specs because, like they mentioned in the video, Nintendo is a master at developing for its own hardware. I hope that Nintendo fans won't ignore the third party titles that come out on the switch and then hate on the companies for bailing out when they see no return on sales numbers (Ubisoft). I also hope, however, that third parties won't just throw year old ports at us and expect us to eat it up.
+Cilverkid520 same...ive finally gotten equal amount of third party games and first party games on a nintendo console i own...hopefully for the switch especially since lots of pc and ps4/Xbox players are all for it third party will get more support from the players😌
Scuffling Boogaloo Thats a pretty dumb and stupid thing to say......and i think you KNOW thats a dumb and stupid thing to say. So i wont reply to this stupid thing you have just said.
While power was a factor with the Wii U's crashing failure, it's important to remember that it had a MULTITUDE of issues that caused its demise (horrendous marketing, hard to port games to, confusing name, ect.). So it's far too early to predict how the Switch will do based on power alone.
Klonoahedgehog Yeah. I think the Wii got away with it because when you sit down and think about it, Wii mote style gameplay is something people wanted, even if they didn't ask for it: it let you swing a sword like you're the Hero of Hyrule, fling a Fireball like you're Mario, the list goes on. Motion controls were more than just an add on type thing: they fundamentally changed what was possible to convey to players. Many games failed to use it properly, sure, but the concept was there, and enough games used it right for the idea to be gotten across that it worked.
Honestly Power does matter, it's not the only factor but it's a part of it. It enables bigger, newer games on a system. who knows where we'll be 2-3 years from now in technology, and if the Switch is running specs from 2012 thats pretty rough. Games matter, architecture matters, Marketing matters, system features matters. For a truly successful system I believe you need all of that. I don't know why my fellow Nintendo fans keep damage controlling it saying power doesn't matter. If the switch came out with 480p in 2017 what would you honestly think? The fact Everyone is so amazed that the Portable can apparently run 720p, shows people do care about graphics. FYI Power doesn't always mean just matter graphics. Physics Engines, how fast maps can be created and displayed, models also is included.
Nova Bushido Yup. I think Lack of power was the final nail in the coffin of the Dreamcast, and look at all the fun features that thing had. Heck, Sonic games in particular push both the system and the game engine to the absolute limit, (and in their case, bug testing is nearly impossible for a character literally designed around the principles of speed running. Not really related, but just something else)
Haruhi Suzumiya The Dreamcast died out way too soon. People forget that the Dreamcast was the first console to include DLC packs and WiFi connection. It had such amazing potential but the Playstation blew the Dreamcast out of the water.
Bethesda, Unreal Engine 4, and many other third party titles have praised the Switch, which is a very good sign that the system is powerful enough. Especially since many third party developers this time around used to be anti-Nintendo, and bashed them. Yet now their developing for the Switch. Even if it's not as powerful as the ps4, Bethesda stated their support the Switch if it's *at least* as powerful as the xbox one, and there they are. Great intro by the way!
I totally agree and I've said as much before. I was speaking purely on a hardware basis, but in terms of general philosophy, I'm excited for the Switch for those exact reasons
good mobile games need to be designed specifically for mobil.. as good "couch" games need to be designed for that experience... I don't think its helpful as you think to try to cram both of those things together. I don't want to play phonix wright on a tv while trying to read all that text from my couch..how its that good for series like that?
As someone else already said about the footage of Mario kart from the switch from trailer: It's not a port, it's not a remake, and it's not a sequel: just a switch
Yes, let's get this obsession with Switch's power behind us. On to Jan 12th: if the rumors are true and BotW is going to be delayed until summer, how will Nintendo handle that announcement in the presentation? Will they allow players to play the game during the NA tour?
Bobby A on the contrary I think it's the opposite, this thing is way less gimmicky than the 3DS, the 3DS thrives on it's gimmicks and design mostly carried over from the regular DS. This thing is too grounded and simple to be a 3DS successor.
Bobby A But they've also stated that they aren't going to stop supporting the 3DS. Again this thing's only hand held capability so far is the ability to take it on the go. otherwise it lacks the innovation that has seen success on the 3DS. I still think there may be a true successor to the 3DS in the future.
***** They said the same thing when they showed off the DS for the first time. Nintendo simply doesn't want to harm 3DS sales at this time especially with the new Pokemon games on the market.
***** If a 3DS successor was even in the works we would have already heard of it by now via a shareholders meeting. The Switch is designed to take over the handheld market and merge the handheld/console divisions, so the development of a actual 3DS 2 would be counter productive.
I agree, I remember seeing Wii commercials all over the place when it launched, but not so much with the Wii U. And then there's the similarity of the names that confused many people.
In the end it doesnt really matter. The wii u had many reasons why it failed (high prices = already more expensive as xbox one s and ps4 slim), not as good gimmick, bad marketing and son. But in the end, the wii didnt failed and even outsold the XBox 360 and ps3. But from a gamers perspective, was the wii "better" then the wii u? Imo totally not. The Wii was horrible as well with most AAA games skipped the system (GTA, Skyrim, Assassins Creed, Battlefield, Mass Effect, Witcher and all that stuff). The Switch might not sell horrible, but I doubt core gamers will be satisfied with the products. This will be again just a console for people that love nintendo games. No Witcher No GTA No Elder Scrolls 6 No Red Dead Redemption No Assassins Creed No Battlefield No Battlefront No Mass Effect No Final Fantasy No Resident Evil No Watchdogs No Far Cry No Crysis No Overwatch No Ark No VR (keep going) but Zelda Mario Pokemon. If thats what you want, get a switch. But Basically, the Wii U was the same.
Yup, I am tired of Nintendo being so far behind in terms of power and losing out on some great third party games because of it. I don't want yet another generation of that. I kinda wish they'd put gimmicks on the backburner for a generation, but I guess that's the same as asking Sonic to run slowly.
Desmond Hollins I said exactly why in the very comment you replied to. Don't put me in the category of those people who care about graphics more than gameplay. I want good games, but I guess it's a sin to also care about specs and graphics.
TurboCMinusMinus That is the sacrifice Nintendo makes when they choose to make systems with unique, arguably gimmicky features. The 3DS, for example, has awful resolution because of its 3D feature. I'm not saying they're wrong to do that, but if they're going to do that, they can expect people to complain about power. It just comes with the territory of trying to be a cute, special snowflake console developer.
TurboCMinusMinus You make a very good point about the penny-pinching. That's also a problem. But one could argue that the portability is a *bit* gimmicky, especially if you primarily want to play the console at home. What is and is not a gimmick depends on one's intended usage. For example, 3D is a potentially useful feature, but for those of us who prefer gaming in 2D (with better resolution), it's gimmicky.
+TurboCMinusMinus If its a console, it makes very little sense for the newest console to be weaker than older consoles. Its not only a replacement for handhelds, so it should be the future.
"What is and is not a gimmick depends on one's intended usage" Then the portability isn't a gimmick. Nintendo's handhelds sell far more than their consoles, and handheld gaming is king in Japan. Well apart from mobile anyway.
How come no one else has done this: A 720p screen is 720x1280 pixels, this means there are a total of 921600 pixels. A 1080p screen is 1920x1080 pixels, this means there are a total of 2073600 pixels. A 720p display has ~44.44% of the pixels that a 1080p display has. The clock speed of the switch gpu when un-docked is 307200000 Hertz (307.2 MHz) The clock speed of the switch gpu when docked is 768000000 Hertz (768 MHz) The gpu is running at 40% the speed when un-docked as when it is docked. The difference is only ~4% power lost when un-docked. There is no issue at all.
Yeah I'm honestly getting tired of this rumor crap, I don't even believe in Pokemon Stars. I always keep my expectations low as to not get disappointed by the end result.
DMD00 it's not Pokemon Stars, it's Codename: Stars (just like how the Switch was Codename:NX), in all likely hood we will get a main series Pokemon game on the switch seeing as how it's going to be stronger than the "New" 3DS wether that be a continuation of Gen7, Gen 4 Remakes or Gen 8(although we shouldn't expect that for a few years) has yet to have enough information disclosed to come to a solid conclusion.
Hylian Montage there are no sane people in this fucking internet. You're right, we don't have any INFORMATION THAT IS OFFICIAL to this console or the Pokemon that will or will no be released. So basically we don't know anything about this console other than it's like a transformer kind of thing and it plays zelda
You don't have to sell this console to Nintendo fans, you have to sell this console to mobile phone gamers and PS4/xb1 fans. These people are not "one issue buyers". They will need a lot of persuasion to buy a switch. 1. Power 2. 3rd party 3. Power while portable 4. Functionality and portability 5. Exclusives There are people who do and don't care about these options but none of them should be ignored. But there are sure ways to sell the system. If you come out with a brand new Pokémon game in hd the switch will sell like hot cakes and people will be more inclined to buy more games for the system if they already own it.
That's not true at all, as someone with 2 XBOX Ones and a PS4. It needs 1st party games worth buying (Metroid, F-Zero, Mario, Zelda, etc.), portability (battery?), power (which leads into 3rd party). In that order. It needs a system seller, Wii U never had that. This console is being advertised to those who grew up with Nintendo, give them the classics. As far as Pokémon is concerned. I think they should take the existing formula and move it to mobile. Using Pokémon Go, they should take the 3D assets from it and make a full 3D game for the Switch. Think Breath of the Wild done as Red/Blue/Yellow.
This is just like identity politics, when it's your opponent that is creating the narrative and trying to define who you are before you even get a chance to introduce yourself to the public and let them get to know you on your own terms. The media has really been the driving force on all things NX/Switch and Nintendo has really said very little. Not sure if this is intentional but I think it's a mistake to give that much power to the media. Nintendo should be showing off and discussing the Switch not media insiders.
Gamesforus The Wii had a mountaon of marketing The Switch has only a few months, Unless The Switch becomes a miracle it will fail and I have yet to see much promise
3rd party support was okay for the Wii U at first too. The worry isn't whether the Switch can handle games ported from the PS4 or Xbox One, the worry is whether developers will put in time to lower the quality to optimize the game for the system... I just don't want to only have Nintendo games again. Its very possible to have both 3rd party and Nintendo games on one console, but its all up to Nintendo.
The Pebble Tribe you already are seeing multiplatform (indie) games (that are on PS4/XB1 as well) make their way to the Switch. Plus other devs like EA, FromSoftware and Ubisoft also seem to have current gen multiplatform games in development for Switch. that should be a sign of things to come, right?
Joel Sola López 3rd parties didn't put games on the wii u because people didn't buy it and people didn't buy it because there was no 3rd party support. Yes, I recognize the failure of the wii u was for multiple reasons.
Sid Patil Those AAA studios could easily be putting older games on the system, once again like they did with Wii U. So their name on that list means nothing unless we hear specific games. Bethesda is interesting as that hasn't really happened before, but it could easily just be the Skyrim Remaster and nothing else. Let's break it down... The EA games could be sports which means nothing for power, From Software would likely have that Dark Souls trilogy port that was rumoured, but same thing I doubt DS is really a hardware intensive game and they could probably lower the quality, and Ubisoft puts games on everything. So wow, a bunch of old games again... Granted the Ubisoft game may be BG&E2 but making something from the ground up is different than porting a hardware intensive game over. Unless these developers said specific games that we know require a lot like The Witcher 3 or Mass Effect or Doom or whatever, than their support on that list means nothing. Even those games are kind of old and even if it was strong, they may not have come anyway. I guess we'll find out in January if Mass Effect Andromeda (a game yet to be released) will get a port. When asked they didn't state one way or the other, only stating the current announced platforms. So they may have been mum because it's going to be revealed in January or that they're trying to work something out and can't disclose anything yet.
It doesn't need to be more powerful than that. We only need 720p, no use running the processor and GPU faster when it would bring diminishing returns. Faster processing increase heating and the need for cooling. It also means that the battery life will be shorter. That goes against everything about the Switch. It needs to be a handheld as well.
I said it before and I'll say it again, as long as it's more powerful as the Wii U, I'm good. You can't deny that the Wii U had some good looking games. And knowing that the games on the Switch are going to look even better makes me happy with how the Switch is going with its hardware.
I knew that the Switch would NEVER run at PS4 levels in either form or Xbox One levels when it's a hand-held, but I thought that it may be on par or at least slightly lower than Xbox when docked.
Welcome to FanboyXplain, where liking someone means that you never speak about the mistakes that they do, but always pretend that everything they do is awesome and everybody who disagrees is crazy.
Like Andre, I don't care for portable games, either. I've never owned a portable system. Not even a GameBoy. Nonetheless, the Switch's gimmick excites me more than a regular, more powerful console would. Because I like the types of games that are developed for the handheld market, even if I don't prefer handheld devices. I also like to know I can have the convenience of a handheld if need-be without having to buy an exclusively handheld device. What really sells me on the Switch is the seemless multiplayer options, tho. That alone will encourage me to bring the console on the go.
+Joel Sola López Yeah, same here. As a social gamer, I'm relieved that Nintendo appears to be not only sticking to their guns as a LAN-centric developer, but that--given this system's gimmicks--Nintendo seems likely to put particular focus into multiplayer for the Switch.
Questions that I ask myself - How much influence might the OS have on the System running games? Could a economical OS that needs very little tech resources mean that less power does not mean very less performance? - Is the way the games are installed important? How much more efficient is it to read cartridges instead of BlueRay? - How likely is a "Switch plus", a console upgrade like Sony and Microsoft did to their console generation or the New 3DS?
I didn't do too well in the engineering course that introduced clock speed, but I know it's very possible to make something work on some lower frequencies, it just might run slightly slower. Again, I'm no expert, but I think the Internet tends to MELT THE HECK DOWN over things that aren't quite so important
I wouldn't doubt that it would succeed, because Nintendo's marketing for the Switch is a lot better than the Wii U, there are dozens of developers who were previously anti-Nintendo, and many people seem to be looking forward to this system.
graphics matter to 3rd parties, Nintendo could stay with the wiiU and keep making amazing games gameplay and graphics wise. But 3rd parties want that extra horse power, need it to fullfill their vision on their games (even if we get the same FPS every month). As long as Nintendo keeps being stuborn and making shitty graphics and poor online capabilities, it will keep riding alone unsupported and behind PS and xbox.
ICharlyl Bethesda said that they would only support the switch if it was powerful enough to run their games at 60fps and we have skyrim remastered already so it's looking good
Sid Patil what i mean it's that nintendo consoles are designed just for nintendo games, only nintendo it's able to get the most out of their consoles. Nintendo don't need a powerfull system to make good looking and amazing games gameplay wise. nintendo doesn't think about third parties when designing their consoles (not enough performance and poor online capabilities). and third parties have been making games with the wiiu's power for 10 years now (since the xbox 360 and ps3) it's not like they can come up with more stuff, that's why we had the same FPSs in the last years of these consoles
Robert Wallen my theory about it it's that games were a lot more expensive to develop for the vita, also the 3ds had a bigger install base so developers just went away from the vita, its just isnt smart to develop for the vita, with no games people just don't buy the system. with home consoles there are 3 systems with top graphics , ps4, xbox one and the PC. only nintendo decided to go for a cheap and low end system so why would developers invest on nintendo when they can develop for ps4, xbox one and PC with almost no work put on making a versión for every console and a bigger and shared install base. making games for nintendo it's starting from 0 a weaker versión of a better game on other consoles and for very few people. Nintendo could still keep doing shitty graphics if more consoles were this way, but it is just nintendo the one that it's isolating themselves. granted, if the switch has enough battery it will have the hanheld marketing to itself, also with all Nintendo teams focusing on one system insted 2 games wouldnt be so lacking, so we could have actually something promising as a 3ds succesor, but big 3rd parties will most likely just port games.
It's all perspective in how you look at, people are ignoring the fact that even with the low clock speed, the handheld portion is still stronger than a Wii U
Right when I was sleeping before my finals. Anyways, the graphics for me aren't that much of a big deal. But I would still like my game to look decent and appealing to the eye at best.
I feel the way it's marketed and it's concept will help it succeed. In a thing like this power isn't important it's games and fun. I care about power when I play PC, not when I play a Nintendo game.
The difference between the Wii U and Switch regarding lower specs. is that the Wii u used the gamepad and had to pull double duty with CPU power. the Switch however is a actual HD handheld with a TV dock for console playability. So the power vs portability compromise is much more reasonable.
What worries me way more than the specs is: a) how Nintendo rushed once again instead of releasing the console in December (similarly to how rushed the WiiU was) and b) first party titles, not even third party ones. Nintendo takes AGES to make games (DKCTF took 3 years, imagine how long it'd have taken had it been a 3D game) and the only truly major new first party game the Switch is going to have in the first year will be the new Mario. Everything else will be ports and Zelda, which will be released on the WiiU anyway too
Why would they do that? They'd be boned by then. They haven't mentioned anything coming to Wii U in all of 2017 other than Breath of the Wild, which means they've already acknowledged its failure. They can't afford to drag it out another year. Also, the console's been in development for a while already. March 2017 is much better.
SpectralDynamite Let's hope that this is case. IMO a December release would mean more sales and more time to polish off the new system. Zelda BotW isn't going to be released in March anyway. It'd be better to kill 6-9 more months than a rushed release.
Dionys84 DKCTF took three years, so what? it turned out to be a masterpiece in the end :P and games do take time to develop, especially outstanding ones like DKCTF
I'm only 16, so I live with my parents which means that I can't play games whenever i want. I will really like to take the switch into my room and play stuff I couldn't before.
Power absolutely matters. Level headed people never expected the Switch to be the most powerful system. It only needs to be powerful enough to belong in the same generation with PS4 and X1. That is all the power it needs. And if those *RUMOURS* are true, it doesn't belong in this generation. PS1 and N64 graphically belonged in the same generation even though N64 was more powerful. PlayStation2 and GameCube also graphically belonged in the same generation even though GameCube was more powerful. X360 and PS3 were also graphically in the same generation even though PS3 was more powerful. The Wii was an anomaly so that doesn't count cause it wasn't directly competing with PS3 and 360. Wii u did not belong in the generation it found itself in and if these rumours are true neither would the Switch. Switch doesn't need to be the most powerful it just needs to graphically belong in the same generation with PS4 and Xbox1.
As a game developer, and someone who knows a decent bit about tech. The larger the resolution of a screen the more graphics power you need to run it at the same rate as good as the lower resolution. Example 1: Hooking up 2 1080p monitors to your PC takes 2x the graphics power to run them at the same quality that it took to run 1 of them. 4k takes about 4x(I could be wrong could be higher) to run it at the same quality as running on a 1080p monitor. So if the rumor of 720p on the handheld and 1080p on TV is true then The GPU speed could be roughly halved, and there'd be 0 different. Because putting a 1080p image on a 720p screen gives you 720p quality. So why not under clock the GPU to save battery life down to 720p quality on a 720p screen giving you the same 720 quality with a longer battery life? The only issue would be if they underclocked it to a point where the settings would go down, or less FPS, but I seriously doubt they'd do that, and even if they did they'd probably patch it in firmware updates.
Tbh, I don't buy Nintendo Consoles for Call of Duty or or Battlefield. I'm not sure if I even consider the Playstation 4 and Xbox 1 to be consoles, rather than weak PCs with some exclusives. Nintendo has some powerful IPs that you can't get (legally) on any other machine (besides iPhone) and that is the factor that will keep me coming back to their consoles, not how many FPS clones you can cram on there. I can't understand why people want Nintendo to fail so much. Nintendo going out of business means less games and less competition all around, so it's in everybody's best interest for them to succeed. Don't succumb to console tribalism, it's thoroughly retarded.
All of the Nintendo fans say this. Until we start pointing out games that are on PS4 and not on Nintendo systems, and then the sulking begins with the "Oh but that game, and that game doesnt interest me". How convenient for you that every game you care about happens to be on one console. Sounds bs to me but even if it wasnt, your case isnt really convincing when 82m people have already shown they disagree with you. But I guess if you dont care about having 82m extra players on the Switch, that's your choice.
Don't worry nintendo isn't going anywhere even if they stop making consoles...for a bit...they've got so much money and can continue making games still and don't forget their universal studio park coming...they are fine lol
"How convenient for you that every game you care about happens to be on one console." Ok? I'm not sure what you're trying to say. I also have a PS4 and am saving up for a PC, so that's weird that you would assume based on my comment that I only care about games that are available to one console. And I also don't get where you're getting this idea that I don't care about having "82m extra players" on the Switch (wherever it is you got that number), because I would love for the Switch to make more people Nintendo fans.
We dont want them out of business. We just want them out of this business. The business of making 60$ HD games that never go down in price, the business of having no easy friendlist, no achievements list, no good online support, no cross buy options, no account system for all the games you purchase and so on and so forth. We want the Switch to fail so they can put the games on platforms worthy of the name in 2016, almost 2017 so that we (Pc users, Xbox and Playstation players) and you (Nintendo fans) can enjoy those games without being locked behind a paywall of a system that most of the time has too many downfalls and shortcomings compared to the competition. I mean 32 GB of memory in 2016??? Really??? And that's the deluxe version??? What could you even do with 4GB of memory lol?
The problem isn't power, it third parties not wanting to work on a underpowered platform. Even though it's a Nintendo system, third party support is important.
Are we forgetting possibly the most important aspect of the Switch? The fact this is a hybrid means we'll have both home console and portable games on it, meaning we'll have main entries of Pokemon, Fire Emblem, Shin Megami Tensei, Youkai Watch, Bravely Default *and* home console titles like Breath of the Wild, Splatoon, 3D Mario, etc! The fact you'll only need a single console to play all of Nintendo's games, unlike previous generations, is already the best selling point they could have come up with this generation! Wee're focusing too much on what doesn't matter - how much power the Switch has - and too little on what really does - it's most likely vastly improved library, which is unavoidable due to the sheer nature of this machine!
Scissorman Yes, it matters in the sense that it has to respect the ground level of each generation. You can't release a PS1 on the generation of PS3 and expect it to sell. But it doesn't have to be the most powerful machine out there! The Switch seems to be able to run 1080p@60fps, and let's face it, even the PS4 and XBOne have trouble doing it in the more graphically demanding games. The Switch seems to respect that ground level, and that's what matters. Even if developers have to downscale their games, as long as it's easy to develop/port for, power won't be a problem! And that's another aspect that matters even more than power - the architecture! The reason most developers left the Wii U or released late ports was because its architecture was too complicated to bother with. Hard to develop for, low sales and low power! The U had everything to fail, while the Switch has a more third party friendly architecture, is able to run Unreal Engine 4, Vulkan and OpenGL 4.5! With its hybrid aspect and the reasons I listed above, it could potentially unify 3DS and Wii U installed bases into one, selling up to 70 million (even if you discard the Wii U installed base, assuming they have both consoles, that's still a whooping 60 million)! And with a big installed base, comes third parties!
TwilightWolf032 I find that exciting as well, however most of my favorite DS and 3DS games were 3rd party (Phoenix Wright, the World Ends With You, Trauma Center, Elite Beat Agents, etc.) and I'm not sure the Switch will get many games of that type
Nintendo doesn't treat it as a portable though.Plus it's more of a console.Which is exponentially harder to develop for.Me personally I'm just waiting for Atlus to do something cool for the Switch.Like a new SMT or hell even Persona 5 (although it's highly unlikely)
I disagree, the Switch needs one thing, that's battery. If I want to play 3rd party games that need to look beautiful on my TV, I'm going to use my PS4 or XBOX One. The Switch, to me anyway, is a mobile system. A mobile system that happens to play games similar in scope to Skyrim is enough. If/when Mass Effect comes to it, that becomes a 200+ hour game that can be played on the go. Vita didn't succeed at that, and the 3DS looks like crap. Now we have a blend, 3DS games, on hardware stronger than the Vita. That's the system seller. Developers know that. Power has never mattered to Nintendo. Earth to you, every system released by Nintendo, including the SNES, has been underpowered in it's respective console generation.
Barry Pockrus Wrong. Nintendo's hardware may not have been the strongest of each generation, but they were never "underpowered" by any means. There were always on par with their rivals until the Wii came out! And in case you didn't know, both the N64 and the GCN were more powerful than Sony's systems for their respective generations. It was Sony who proved specs don't sell consoles, a lesson Nintendo would take to heart when developing the Wii!
people may overreact but dericks blind optimism at the start of the video is about as bad as the overreaction about the rumored specs. 3rd parties making statements without any commitments doesnt mean anything, the same thing happened with the wii u and we all know how that turned out. if the switch is less powerfull than the xbox 1 then that matters. If we are to assume that, a strong reaction from the internet is justified. I dont like how you ridicule such a reaction and then proceed to make argumets like the one i just mentioned from derick. You guys may not care about power, i dont care that much either, but you are seriously out of touch if you believe that selling a product that is less powerfull than the xbox1 (which is 3 years old and similarly priced), most likely has bad 3rd party support and a gimmick many dont care about wont be a tough sell for nintendo.
LECKMICH it's not about 'three year old and similarly priced hardware' here. Are you forgetting that on launch the PS4/XB1 were 400$? The current price drops are after a certain amount of sales. Secondly, do you really expect them to cram a XB1 level system inside a handheld? xD without any heating and battery issues?
LECKMICH 'Most likely has bad third party support' but so far devs do seem to be happy with the Switch very likely due to its ease of development. Otherwise you wouldn't have seen this many developers on board (just have a look at the Switch Partnerships list). Several multiplatform games have been confirmed to come to Switch (and are on PC, PS4, XB1 as well). 'another gimmick' what gimmick? It's a system that can act as both a handheld and home console. What's gimmicky about being able to take your home console games on the go? im sure many people would love that. Id say this is a smart move by Nintendo. They have been losing when it comes to their consoles but are unbeatable in the handheld sector. So combining both their fields is a good move.
What just happened with Yooka Laylee is a perfect example of why the power concerns hold some weight. Gamer's own opinions on power aren't that big of a deal. But *developer's* concerns do hold some weight. If the power difference is enough that many developers don't bother, because it's too difficult to develop for, or their vision for their game isn't possible on the Switch's hardware, it really will be a repeat of the Wii U. Nintendo's own games will be perfectly fine, but multiplatform games could be a real problem.
About the hands on event, when the Wii U finally released officially in Brazil (a long time ago, while Latamel was still their official distributor around here), they actually did a hands on event that wasn't the biggest thing ever (at least when I went there, but it was during the week, before I went to work), but definitely made up my mind about buying one. Granted, the Wii U came out officially for us much, much later than other countries, but it was still cool that they took the time to make that event.
Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different outcome. Nintendo is a about to finally learn this. The main problem with switch is it was meant to be a jack of all trades, it now turning into master of none. Too weak as a home console, too big as a handled.
what are you talking about? the Wii u failed simply because Nintendo misjudged the power-elevation that led to Open-world HD games taking the gaming market by storm, so it was just a power-thing and even limited their own franchises and they admitted it! the Switch is good enough, the market is fast yes and it's practically already outdated but it does the standard of today pretty well and that's what matters
I gotta say, this one of you guys' best discussion vids in terms of structure and flow. I felt both entertained and delighted to hear your points and opinions. 10/10
They mentioned that the most powerful system doent always win the gen. PS2 beating GC and Xbox which were more powerful, and 360 beating PS3. But the power gap between all of those consoles were NEGLIGIBLE. The Switch, from what we know, is going to be NOTICEABLY weaker than its competition. the gap btw the Wii U and it's competition was GREAT, and the primary reasn for its failure. I dont get why you guys are damage controlling, or making it seem like it's Ok for Nintendo to keep putting out severely outdated hardware. You KNOW it's going to inevitably effect 3rd party support. Honestly, do you guys believe the Switch will get the latest GTA? Battlefield? If it doesn't, then that's a problem, plain and simple. it's Ok to complain to Nintendo, they need to here complaint so they can give us a proper console for the 1st time since the GameCube FFS. Nintendo can't possibly believe this thing will be suitable enough to function as a gamers primary console over the Xb1 or PS4 if it can't run the same 3rd party games can they?
Switch has the unique appeal of having every single Nintendo game dev supporting it for the next few years, since there's no 3ds successor until switch succeeds. Nintendo's biggest problem for me is they split their support in half for each system. Now it's one.
Here's my reasoning yeah Splatoon and Pokemon but for the West we need ALOT to sell. Monster Hunter is niche in the West at least it is considered still niche. In Japan look at it this way Splatoon sold Japanese people on a Wii U it was selling like crazy and you might be wondering why... cuz.... tentacles and fetish... and ink... and porn... *insert Spongebob Imagination gif here* Pokemon is established but for the west that is not enough hell Nintendo was relying heavily on Super Smash Bros. 4 to be THE WII U SELLER but that wasn't the case... Zelda is way more loved in the West than Japan but like Final Fantasy XV it is in development hell and is taking fucking... forever. It needs something... to hook people. Thats why at this point that event on January 12th will either make or break this damn system cuz power wise it's not impressing people. Concept wise it impresses but a concept can only do so much... we need games!
spindash64 Lol... It'd better be a motherfucking mix of Sonic Unwiished (Wii version of Sonic Unleashed) with that punch-out boss with the Joycons and the stuff in Sonic Unleashed (X360/PS3)
Desmond Hollins Hmm... Personally I love Monster Hunter but I can't care for Fire Emblem (unless it's Tokyo Mirage Sessions#FE and Fire Emblem's Soundtracks which are amazing) and I do not understand what's so great about Chibi-Robo...
Desmond Hollins Tried it... not for me tho strangely I liked Pokemon Conquest but here it just doesn't work for me. I don't hate it just don't care for it.
That could quite possibly be best thumbnail and intro on this channel.
PKTidal it definitely is!!!
Eh, Breath of the wild and Color splash were better
That thumbnail's totally *lit* design is *blowing* my mind.
By your avatar, i thought you wouldn't be amused
"People do care about power and graphics"
Yea, the Minority of those people (about 10%) care about power but they don't even matter in already massive gaming market. There's way more people that actually cares about the games in the general consumers themselves than the people that only care for graphics and power. As long as Nintendo actually advertise the system with many must-buy games then they're good!
Snowcone so your part of the loud minority
Glad you enjoyed it :)
yeah super unpredictable
Peter Hatch yeah I did not expect that beginning
Oh that's just the old and cheap strategy of depicting everybody who has a different opinion as crazy people and haters. No real argument there, but hey: As long as it makes you feel better about your own ignorance :-)
Slap Slap wat? Who are you even talking to? 🙃
One word, 3DS. The weakest console on the current market and it has outsold every other current gen device. Power doesn't sell shit, games do.
Ljink 96 you have a point. i still havent bought a ps4 and now i would decide between slim and pro? nah i'll just get a switch hopefully it plays third party gamed decently.
Ljink 96 But didn't the 3DS come out 2 years before PS4 and Xbox one?
As long as the Switch is more powerful than the WiiU then I'm good
My thoughts, too. If Wii U could run beautiful games like Smash 4 and Mario Kart 8, we're good.
Lieutenant Snow-Eagle and Xenoblade Chronicles X
It is at least
Yea but this is 2017, how long can this system last? bigger and bigger games will be coming, new ideas that the switch may not be able to handle in portable and maybe in docked mode.
It's not just graphic, power gives use to games which have very different engines and mechanics.
I can't see this looking good in a year or so. Power matters, it's not the main thing but it does help a lot of things out.
The Wii U has been out of date for like 3 years already. That's a pretty low bar you are setting there.
It should be noted, that while power isn't known for winning. The weaker console usually wins by a specific advantage over the others.
*NES* - It forced third party to develop for it alone
*Neo Geo* - Costed TOO much for the general consumer
*PS1* - N64 used cartridge, which made it lose a lot of appeal/third party support
*PS2* - DVD player, GameCube shot itself in the foot with the mini discs and Xbox was a new one, that couldn't get its foot in Japan
*Wii* - Targeted an untapped market and became a giant fad that will most likely never happen again, while PS3 was an over priced nightmare that was Hell to develop for
*PS4* - Competition Microsoft pissed everyone off before launching, and then released a console that costed more and was slightly weaker, while the Wii U on the other hand, well, no one bought it, due to the poor marketing, awful name, and lack of third party games, leading to numerous droughts
If Switch is to succeed, the portability needs to be a huge selling factor to people.
Roxie ღ yea I can't see portability being a selling point here. This will probably get handheld gamers, but as a console it's just inferior.
Thank you for the intro, it's getting FUCKING ANNOYING to have people just make thousands of videos about the Switch's power.
+Desmond Hollins It does seem odd. The way I see it, if I want to see something that's really good graphics and not much else, then I'll watch a movie. Even then though, it does need to have strong acting, writing, plot, etc.
If the Wii U can somehow handle BotW than I'll just take a second Wii U if i want to
Vegeta Prince of the Saiyans I don't doubt that it can. Both the GameCube and Wii do well with Twilight Princess.
i find it hilarious how people forget gaming history. go look at the atari vs intellivision, or any of the sega vs nintendo, hell, the snes was the answer nintendo gave to sega, the n64? the freaking name says it all, 64 bit. in almost every comparison, nintendo went with "we have the best graphics".
the game cube? i dont think you know this but, the biggest selling point of that console was how much better games looked in comparison to the ps2.
so dont come say that only NOW we care about graphics.
amen
That opening kind of spooked me. ._.
RUMOR: Nintendo Switch is actually Sans
Mr. Waffle the 2nd RUMOR: The Nintendo Switch is made by Microsoft
Mr. Waffle the 2nd no wonder its having a bad time!
Rumor.
The switch is a potato cover with sugar.
NIN SWI RUMOR:
THIS JOKE'S GETTING OLD
Dumb Garden Gnome so are the rumors themselves but you don't see those stopping, sadly
How much did Wii U's power matter? 3rd party support says A FUCKING LOT.
seantendo001 This is a different situation entirely.
It'll win by going underneath the competition like the original Wii did.
seantendo001 actually remember it was terribly marketed... plus dat name tho
third party devs love to use graphics as a crutch, and have sony/MS by the balls since if either company ever pissed off the third party devs their consoles would sink faster than the titanic
***** the switch is a home console.
seantendo001 The Switch is a handheld with detachable controllers, and a docking station that puts the games on your TV.
"Vegeta, what does the scouter say about the power level?!" "IT'S- it's....idk."
LMAO
If it can run Windows Maze, then it should be fine.
best comment
King Dededong or Space Pinball
It better be able to play Sokoban, Ski Free, Pipe Dreams, Minesweeper, and Spider Solitaire
Joseph Franc you just replied to it
While power was a factor with the Wii U's crashing failure, it's important to remember that it had a MULTITUDE of issues that caused its demise (horrendous marketing, hard to port games to, confusing name, ect.). So it's far too early to predict how the Switch will do based on power alone.
Snagrio the Wii u was hard to port to becayse of the crappy hardware compared to xbone and ps4
I was always under the impression that it was the controller.
Klonoahedgehog
Yeah.
Snagrio fatal flaw number one the Wii U was a accessory to the Wii console which many people had and were using at the time
It wasn't an accessory, that was just an assumption made because of the name.
Nova Bushido
Yup. Not really related, but just something else)
spindash64 dream cast failed due to being a loss leader and the brand power of PlayStation.
Haruhi Suzumiya The Dreamcast died out way too soon. People forget that the Dreamcast was the first console to include DLC packs and WiFi connection. It had such amazing potential but the Playstation blew the Dreamcast out of the water.
If the switch runs all games on the system in 480p with 4-5hours battery then that IS pretty impressive.
720p would be even better!!!
Douwert No. 480p with 4-5 h is bad.
^this
Snowcone Guy PS4 Pro and Xbox one S are just coming out. Because of that, it'll be a while until they release their actual next console.
Snowcone Guy I doubt there'll be a PS5/XB2 since Sony and MS seem focused on pushing the Pro and Scorpio
they said the SAME thing about the wii u and no bethesda and other third party ported games to the wii u
didnt the ceo from bethesda said that he is worried about the power of the switch?
That fucking nuclear siren scares the shit out me. Thanks Silent Hill
The Switch, play as you like. That could be a great way to market this system if they do combine both their hand held and home console games.
I totally agree and I've said as much before. I was speaking purely on a hardware basis, but in terms of general philosophy, I'm excited for the Switch for those exact reasons
GameXplain agreed
good mobile games need to be designed specifically for mobil.. as good "couch" games need to be designed for that experience... I don't think its helpful as you think to try to cram both of those things together. I don't want to play phonix wright on a tv while trying to read all that text from my couch..how its that good for series like that?
As someone else already said about the footage of Mario kart from the switch from trailer:
It's not a port, it's not a remake, and it's not a sequel: just a switch
spindash64 Haha, I like it.
If GameXplain says hi it will make my day.
Hi!
GameXplain hi to you my sir pip pip
+GameXplain Day made.
GameXplain say hi to me ;-;
sorry but he didnt sais "hi" he sais "Hi!"
Yes, let's get this obsession with Switch's power behind us.
On to Jan 12th: if the rumors are true and BotW is going to be delayed until summer, how will Nintendo handle that announcement in the presentation? Will they allow players to play the game during the NA tour?
well the rumours say that the 3d Mario will be a launch game, I also wouldn't be suprised if stuff like Skyrim remastered was a launch game too
I legitimately got scared at the start of this video!!!
Heh, same 😉
It's a 3DS successor with TV playback. It's home console features are novelty, not meant to compete with Xbox/PS.
Bobby A on the contrary I think it's the opposite, this thing is way less gimmicky than the 3DS, the 3DS thrives on it's gimmicks and design mostly carried over from the regular DS. This thing is too grounded and simple to be a 3DS successor.
***** A successor in the market of handheld devices from Nintendo. Nintendo's two platforms have gone from handheld/home console to mobile/handheld.
I think the reason the Wii U failed was marketing not because it was underpowered.
For sure. They messed up, but they're really getting back on the ball with this one.
I agree, I remember seeing Wii commercials all over the place when it launched, but not so much with the Wii U. And then there's the similarity of the names that confused many people.
TurboCMinusMinus
do you really think the general consumer, who bought 150million Wiis, actually cares about teraflops?
No Witcher
No GTA
No Elder Scrolls 6
No Red Dead Redemption
No Assassins Creed
No Battlefield
No Battlefront
No Mass Effect
No Final Fantasy
No Resident Evil
No Watchdogs
No Far Cry
No Crysis
No Overwatch
No Ark
No VR
(keep going)
but
Zelda
Mario
Pokemon.
If thats what you want, get a switch. But Basically, the Wii U was the same.
This is not really true...
Bad marketing and underpowered .
Going on an early Switch nostalgia binge. Who knew how successful this console would be.
DOOM. WOLFENSTEIN 2. ENOUGH SAID.
It's a next-gen console. It is very reasonable to expect hardware *better* than (much less on par with) current-gen consoles.
"What is and is not a gimmick depends on one's intended usage"
Then the portability isn't a gimmick. Nintendo's handhelds sell far more than their consoles, and handheld gaming is king in Japan. Well apart from mobile anyway.
It's a handheld that can be docked. Expecting PS4 level hardware in a handheld is pretty silly.
I already found the thumbnail to be quite funny, but I was definitely not ready for that intro. LOL!
How come no one else has done this:
A 720p screen is 720x1280 pixels, this means there are a total of 921600 pixels.
A 1080p screen is 1920x1080 pixels, this means there are a total of 2073600 pixels.
A 720p display has ~44.44% of the pixels that a 1080p display has.
The clock speed of the switch gpu when un-docked is 307200000 Hertz (307.2 MHz)
The clock speed of the switch gpu when docked is 768000000 Hertz (768 MHz)
The gpu is running at 40% the speed when un-docked as when it is docked.
The difference is only ~4% power lost when un-docked.
There is no issue at all.
That was a great intro. I'm liking this video just because of that.
Judging by the thumbnail, they'll also be discussing a new rumor about how the Switch is so powerful that its battery catches fire and explodes.
This video is basically them slowly realizing how little all of this actually matters.
I WILL ONLY BELIEVE THE OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT OF THIS FUCKING THING, NOT A FUCKING RUMORS
Yeah I'm honestly getting tired of this rumor crap, I don't even believe in Pokemon Stars.
I always keep my expectations low as to not get disappointed by the end result.
DMD00 yeah. But apparently, people don't understand those things
DMD00
it's not Pokemon Stars, it's Codename: Stars (just like how the Switch was Codename:NX), in all likely hood we will get a main series Pokemon game on the switch seeing as how it's going to be stronger than the "New" 3DS wether that be a continuation of Gen7, Gen 4 Remakes or Gen 8(although we shouldn't expect that for a few years) has yet to have enough information disclosed to come to a solid conclusion.
Hylian Montage there are no sane people in this fucking internet. You're right, we don't have any INFORMATION THAT IS OFFICIAL to this console or the Pokemon that will or will no be released.
So basically we don't know anything about this console other than it's like a transformer kind of thing and it plays zelda
but does it have blast processing?
NaXEthan and the game cartridges have super FX chips
good, just checking.
wait people are freaking out about this??
Yep
Ruben Giglio there are people out there who send death threats for a single less pixel in a screen
OF COURSE!
Ruben Giglio yeah it's a Switch rumour people always do, ESPECIALLY if they can twist it to sound like the end if Nintendo
bleeehhh just annoying at this point
An explosion that talks?!
You don't have to sell this console to Nintendo fans, you have to sell this console to mobile phone gamers and PS4/xb1 fans.
These people are not "one issue buyers". They will need a lot of persuasion to buy a switch.
1. Power
2. 3rd party
3. Power while portable
4. Functionality and portability
5. Exclusives
There are people who do and don't care about these options but none of them should be ignored.
Barry Pockrus I have 3 xbox ones and a ps4
you can't speak for everyone's preference
people are different
Amazing thumbnail GX XD
lol that intro was hilarious.
Many people are having a meltdown about the specs and I'm here like "I have no idea what any of this means"
C Robinson well they kinda have. but it needed to be more because its been years of nx/switch hype.
C Robinson its like fallout 4 in a way, no substantial info until real close to launch.
Probably too political and I don't see the correlation. Its more or less Nintendo not coming out and being up front about information.
Media is the driving force of all mass-opinion. Unfortunately.
+Graphomite I personally couldn't care less what they say, especially here, but I don't doubt that you're right.
If powers all that matter PC would be the first priority for all gamers
danielninjaman yea. and obviously its not lol.
Yet it's been growing in recent years.
Having weak power killed the Wii u and it could easily kill The Switch. Do not be a bunch of fanboys this time around as well.
The House Of Gaming You idiot!!; the Wii u failed because of shitty marketing and difficult programing.
I guess since the Wii was underpowered it means that it should of selled horrible.....
Spike You know technology moves forward right? The Switch is a Wii U 3 years late.
Gamesforus The Wii had a mountaon of marketing The Switch has only a few months, Unless The Switch becomes a miracle it will fail and I have yet to see much promise
So marketing was more of a factor in terms of the Wii's success and the Wii U's failure, not power
So, this is a discussion about tecnology with People that don't understand about tech talk?
Yep! Just like 99% of the people discussing it
Zing
I just think that would be a Great addition to have someone that understands it, another point of view would make the discussion richer
yeah I think that they should get someone that know's what all this means
francisco lira there's only one person
Rich of ReviewTechUSA
The GameXplain intro music has improved dramatically. Good job guys.
Off TV play is actually my favorite part about the Wii U.
TheTrumpTower! Cool?
+Christian Schoff cool.
It was a shame I couldn't take it to the shitter though
KonkeyDong yeah
3rd party support was okay for the Wii U at first too. The worry isn't whether the Switch can handle games ported from the PS4 or Xbox One, the worry is whether developers will put in time to lower the quality to optimize the game for the system... I just don't want to only have Nintendo games again. Its very possible to have both 3rd party and Nintendo games on one console, but its all up to Nintendo.
The Pebble Tribe 3rd parties went away from the Wii U because it was not selling well.
Sid Patil we saw darksiders 2, arkham city, assassins creed 3, need for speed u, and more when the wii u first launched.
I think the switch undocked should be more powerful than 307mhz gpu and 1ghz cpu since the ventilation shaft on the top of the tablet looks pretty big
if it's atleast a teraflop I'm happy with the specs☺
Cullum Curnow me too
It doesn't need to be more powerful than that. We only need 720p, no use running the processor and GPU faster when it would bring diminishing returns. Faster processing increase heating and the need for cooling. It also means that the battery life will be shorter. That goes against everything about the Switch. It needs to be a handheld as well.
Barry Pockrus yeah, if it has a good battery life, then the power wont matter.
Barry Pockrus however the switch is actively cooled by a fan inside of the tablet which may suggesy that it's more powerful than what we expected
I said it before and I'll say it again, as long as it's more powerful as the Wii U, I'm good.
You can't deny that the Wii U had some good looking games. And knowing that the games on the Switch are going to look even better makes me happy with how the Switch is going with its hardware.
Lmao couldn't care .
I knew that the Switch would NEVER run at PS4 levels in either form or Xbox One levels when it's a hand-held, but I thought that it may be on par or at least slightly lower than Xbox when docked.
MarioOnage64 This is all it really needs to be. But these rumours are making it even weaker than that.
It does matter in some degree. Long as 3rd party developers keep making games for it though I don't care.
Welcome to FanboyXplain, where liking someone means that you never speak about the mistakes that they do, but always pretend that everything they do is awesome and everybody who disagrees is crazy.

How fantastic of Eurogamer to state facts based on rumors and speculation.
Graphomite for me the local multiplayer is the thing that exites me the most. I've though that was dead in the current gen hardware.
+Joel Sola López
Yeah, same here. As a social gamer, I'm relieved that Nintendo appears to be not only sticking to their guns as a LAN-centric developer, but that--given this system's gimmicks--Nintendo seems likely to put particular focus into multiplayer for the Switch.
Questions that I ask myself
- How much influence might the OS have on the System running games?
Does Gamexplain knows that the Switch will support the Vulkan API?
People are still gonna buy the effing thing.
cynical perks that's obvious
cynical perks People didn't buy the Wii U.
Chris Sukam They didn't know the Wii U was a new console
+Chris Sukam mostly bc of bad marketing and a bad choice in names which caused confusion.
FirPtl yet get changed to mean under powered by detractors.
Hey GameXplain, is that Explosion in the Thumbnail, is the Nuclear/Autonomic Bomb Explosion or was that just a different explosion?
Or maybe both
Matthew Kelly yes
The market only thinks about graphics these days, maybe nintendos next console will finally have some power, and I doubt this will succeed now
I wouldn't doubt that it would succeed, because Nintendo's marketing for the Switch is a lot better than the Wii U, there are dozens of developers who were previously anti-Nintendo, and many people seem to be looking forward to this system.

As Dire Dire Docks plays in the background
graphics matter to 3rd parties, Nintendo could stay with the wiiU and keep making amazing games gameplay and graphics wise. But 3rd parties want that extra horse power, need it to fullfill their vision on their games (even if we get the same FPS every month). As long as Nintendo keeps being stuborn and making shitty graphics and poor online capabilities, it will keep riding alone unsupported and behind PS and xbox.
ICharlyl Bethesda said that they would only support the switch if it was powerful enough to run their games at 60fps and we have skyrim remastered already so it's looking good
ICharlyl > keep making amazing games gameplay and graphics wise
> keeps being stubborn and making shitty graphics
wut xD
Sid Patil what i mean it's that nintendo consoles are designed just for nintendo games, only nintendo it's able to get the most out of their consoles. Nintendo don't need a powerfull system to make good looking and amazing games gameplay wise. nintendo doesn't think about third parties when designing their consoles (not enough performance and poor online capabilities). and third parties have been making games with the wiiu's power for 10 years now (since the xbox 360 and ps3) it's not like they can come up with more stuff, that's why we had the same FPSs in the last years of these consoles
ICharlyl Why did the DS/3DS do so well and the Vita Failed so bad
Does that has Blast Processing?
awesome thumbnail!
How do you think I feel? I literally have to stay up all night because my AP English final credit is...A HOMEWORK PROJECT
I feel the way it's marketed and it's concept will help it succeed. In a thing like this power isn't important it's games and fun. I care about power when I play PC, not when I play a Nintendo game.
I don't care about eurogamer's leak. What if it is not true??
Everything else will be ports and Zelda, which will be released on the WiiU anyway too
Manning Lee No they rushed because they release this before December 2017 and before Scorpio
Manning Lee I meant that they should have planned a December 2017 release, 9 months after the currently planned March 2017 release.
Will it have 4g data for on the go.
I'm only 16, so I live with my parents which means that I can't play games whenever i want. I will really like to take the switch into my room and play stuff I couldn't before.
Will Neckerman buy a 32 inch led for 140 bucks for your room. thats 2 games
Best thumbnail of GameXplain so far.
"How convenient for you that every game you care about happens to be on one console."
Ok?
Tyler Werbenjagermanjenson if Nintendo fails they either become 3rd party or handheld only
The problem isn't power, it third parties not wanting to work on a underpowered platform.
Do you have a link to the Neogaf thread you mentioned?
rumor: the switch run's on AA batteries.
ultraspark 712 no freaking way that is not gonna happen!!
(OBEY PEPSIMAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!!!!)
Nice vid :3 Gl for 800k !
Great opening lol
Seaphron even better thumbnail ahaha
You presented and started this video better than any other news channel reporting these rumors.
people may overreact but dericks blind optimism at the start of the video is about as bad as the overreaction about the rumored specs.
But a strong reaction is not justified when this is just a rumor.
At this point, we're at a crossroad where it could be another Wii or another Wii U. It's just a bit scary to say the least.
saw this coming!!!
that alarm sounds made it perfect
Raw power doesn't matter. if this thing sells 30 million units, third party developers will make games.
Just before starting the video,I got an Ad of Full HD 4K Battlefield 1... How ironic.
I'm sacred to buy Nintendo Switch
now!! (Thanks to the thumbnail...!)
So are we getting another Wii U power level console? Oh dear :c
QB no of course not
About the hands on event, when the Wii U finally released officially in Brazil (a long time ago, while Latamel was still their official distributor around here), they actually did a hands on event that wasn't the biggest thing ever (at least when I went there, but it was during the week, before I went to work), but definitely made up my mind about buying one.
Kayzef2003 Still better than a master of one.
what are you talking about?
the Wii u failed simply because Nintendo misjudged the power-elevation that led to Open-world HD games taking the gaming market by storm, so it was just a power-thing and even limited their own franchises and they admitted it!
the Switch is good enough, the market is fast yes and it's practically already outdated but it does the standard of today pretty well and that's what matters
Nintendo can't possibly believe this thing will be suitable enough to function as a gamers primary console over the Xb1 or PS4 if it can't run the same 3rd party games can they?
hey what happened to that nintendo switch actor interview?
I'll never get a response.....
Devin Minecraft :/
yeah why would anyone respond to you (lol)
Switch has the unique appeal of having every single Nintendo game dev supporting it for the next few years, since there's no 3ds successor until switch succeeds. Nintendo's biggest problem for me is they split their support in half for each system. Now it's one.
Japan: THIS WILL SELL. Splatoon and If it gets Monster Hunter plus Pokemon n Yokai Watch... yeah
West: Zelda and it needs something
Here's my reasoning yeah Splatoon and Pokemon but for the West we need ALOT to sell. Monster Hunter is niche in the West at least it is considered still niche. In Japan look at it this way Splatoon sold Japanese people on a Wii U it was selling like crazy and you might be wondering why... cuz.... tentacles and fetish... and ink... and porn... *insert Spongebob Imagination gif here*
Pokemon is established but for the west that is not enough hell Nintendo was relying heavily on Super Smash Bros.

(Prays for Sonic Unleashed port for 2018)
spindash64 Lol...
Props on the thumbnail. Its great
