I built one as well, the mic bleed was pretty rough at first, so i got some drum triggers and started triggering gates, that made a world of difference. Nicely done!

This is cool but mind you Levon is extremely reflective so make sure to dampen it down or your next mixing issue will be how much mast harsh cymbal bleed you’ll have in all mics

Hey, @heyworshipleader , how’s about a little sound recording comparison before and after the drum cage?

Hey bro where did you order the Lexan from? Also do you mind sharing the sizes you ordered and thickness?

How is the temperature in the cage during an actual service? Does it get too hot without ventilation?

What size sheet and how thick?

I’ll probably do a follow up step-by-step video with all the links and exactly how I did everything and what I ordered. The Lexon is .220 mm thick. And I got 6‘ x 10‘. 6’ x 45” (x2), and 6’ x 6’ (x2) that I ended up cutting for the sides

That is awesome! Are you able to share the total cost for your finished product? We are looking to do something similar, and I wondered if DIY would be a feasible option. Thanks!

I had a $2000 budget for the project and we came just under that. The Lexan was $1300 ish by itself.

Looks awesome! Have you run into any ventilation/over heating issues?

!!Watch out for Windex/ammonia based cleaners!!
All it will take is a volunteer who wants to help clean and that lexan will be foggy.

That cage ended up really beautiful! Now, this is where I'll get the hate: I'd rather spend the $$ on an Electronic Drum set. This is from a super tight budget and super small church point of view (25 people). Thing is, I've gotten better sound from an inexpensive ED than many bigger churches with acoustic sets. This is not me boasting at all! It's just the reality that for an acoustic drum set to sound good, there is a lot of $$ involved. Not very good at English so I hope it makes sense. Thanks for the video!

Uh oh….. get ready for it….. I posted about this once and found out there were a lot of drum cage haters out there.

Good job on the drum cage. For me, the more we move away from live amps and drums in the room, the less enjoyable playing becomes.

Step one: teach your drummers to play with better dynamics…that Lexan will throw so much cymbal into every mic…different sticks/better dynamics is the best solution. Never had good sound with “Drummer under glass.”

SOme of the best sound is 'drummer under glass'. You're just wrong with everything you said here.
