- In this video, I install a few new car parts for Layla. She got some new toys from CravenSpeed and I go ahead and install them all. In the previous video regarding the Mini, we stripped out most of the interior and it set us up so we could have access to the shifter. This install for the Mini is the most difficult style short throw shifter to install, so if you thought this wasn’t too bad, than any other short shifter will be easy to install.
As for the shift well cover, it cleans up the look of the shifter and gives it a very distinct look. It works with the regular shifter as well, so if you just want to do a shift boot delete, this is your go to. With it paired with the short throw shifter, you can adjust the throw of the shifter within 2 seconds.
If you're looking for some help from CravenSpeed regarding any of their products, by all means send them an email and they'd be more than happy to help. Kellen was extremely helpful during my process, and his team is just as awesome!! Their email is: support@cravenspeed.com

this is amazing finally someone who works on Minis and explains i full detail on how to install new parts I have been looking for this for such a long time. I hope you continue with this because when i get the cash im going to mod my mini and these videos will be s useful for me:)
I'm glad ya like it man :) I feel it will make other people's lives a lot easier if they try to install one for themselves!!
Did you do it ??
yeah, even today the mini cooper community isn't very tech-savvy, The only info on these cars seem to be on forums from the early 2000s. If you have a non-S you might as well give up looking for information or guides and just start taking things apart.
You have done a better job teaching than my diesel tech instructor in school. 👏
your video is quite professional easy to understand and not overly long, thanks!
Thank you for showing the craven speed shift well cover. I just got mine in the mail today
I cant wait for the mini to be done!
Me too man :)
Screwing with that white plastic piece would have been a week for me. I would have been pissed at the end of it and just stop the process. Good video man!
I like the way you say "Out" :D
I'm glad you mentioned that the shift knob increases shift throw. With a tall one like that, the throw at "Aftermarket" is close to the factory at the top of the knob.
A really well done video. Explained everything in a very thorough manner without skipping any steps. One tiny suggestion would be to explain that when replacing the rubber bushings with the aluminum bushings it can result in some additional transmission noise in the cockpit and some additional vibration in the shifter. For some this might influence their decision to use the aluminum bushings or not. Otherwise a terrific video, Great job!
Cool name for the car!! Good luck grates from Argentina
Nice video Milan , can wait for the wide body video gonna change the whole look of the car :D
Oh buddy I'm so pumped for it!! Its killing me how I don't have it yet lol
deserve every minute of watch this goood job man 😁
Cheers buddy!! :D
HOLD UP! I've got a super important question here!
Essentially, are you sure those steps are essential?!
Haha. I'm just messing with you! I love your videos as well as the extreme over use of the word "essentially" - it makes my day everytime I watch! Puts a little laughter into every pain in the ass repair or upgrade that I do!
Keep doing you love! You're absolutely phenomenal! 😊👍
Awesome review. Do aluminum bushings (4) on outside of shift plate come with short shift kit?
great video milan! anytime doing a heater matrix fix for the golf? They are a common problem on the car
Nice video! But when is the widebody coming? Really anxious for that.
As soon as it comes in!!!
Why don't you 3D print a replica of the shifter cassette cover just in height for the short throw adjusted shifter?
If anyone did, I'd buy one for this reason
shared and liked ur video
+milanmastracci I got my first speeding ticket today and idk why but I couldn't help but think of the vid u uploaded of u getting pulled over, keep it up love ur channel
LOL thats awesome!! Cheers buddy :)
So it is ok to keep the cover off and did all the extra bit and pieces come with that shifter cause im looking to get one myself
Is that new shift ball cup made of dahrlin plastic ? Seems like more vibration with the aluminum spacers , probably worth it though ayy ?
Danke👍👍
Not a problem buddy :)
Why did you remove the entire shifter assembly?
Couldn't you install the short shifter from the interior of the car (with the exception of the "replacement bolts")?
I've never heard of being required to remove the exhaust just to upgrade the shifter.
He didnt have to do all that
Super late question, but would this work on an r60 all4 JCW ?
LMAO. You said the word "essentially" like eleven times during the video. Don't be mad, just bustin' balls. Great video. Keep it up.
Craven should provide the green oring and the secure tab reused in the fork to get into reverse. Just my thought
You can use paper clips to hold the plastic clips in and removed the shifter
Great video do you know if it's the similar process for a r53?
Yes, it is nearly an identical design from the 2002-2006's, to the 2007-2013's
Essentially
Why did you choose the craven speed shifter over the no engineering short shifter
Please make video about aftermarket powerful sparks
How about black roof and side mirror covers?
That would look nice :D
What do you think of salomandrin!?!?!?!?!?
what kind of shift knob is that?
is Layla an S or base?
if she is an S, do you know if the process would differ with a base model Cooper?
thanks in advance Milan!
Btw, originally what manufacturer used was lithium grease not silicon paste. You use lithium grease when you're lubricating plastic. Just so you know for next time.
Yeah I know :D I have some lithium grease but it wasn't the paste style. I'll be picking some up soon though :D
That's cool. Silicon grease won't hurt it, it just won't last as long. So are you planning to leave the cassette open? If so I would rather get a smaller shift knob so you can leave the cassette cover closed and still have pretty much same throw. :) Good luck!
What if you can’t remove the cables from the shifter mechanism?? I’ve tried and tried. I can’t do it
That was like me.. It is tough, but can indeed be done. Don't be scared to break it, because it should pop off before any damage occurs
Check out this shifter, Coolerworx Short Shifter, this is ideale for track and street.
are you gonna put two seats or jus one??,
Probably two :D
Is this the same process for an r50 mini?
Sure is!! You need to drop the exhaust to get access to the bottom side of the shifter
Is it possible to change the knob on the oem? To say a ball shiftknob?
Sure can :)
That was one fast reply haha! Thanks bro!
Cheers buddy!!
i don't see a "Bunch of goodies" . I saw one thing get installed.
Jeremy Plant i was thinking that too
Keep watching.. 3 goodies from them :D
I dont think anyone will bre reading this but is this the same process for the Mini Countryman R60 ?
Would love to hear back from someone.
Have a nice day :)
MY LEDS DONT WORK ON ONE SIDE OF MY CAR BUT THEY WILL WORK IF I JAVE THE CAR WARMING UP FOR 10 mins plz help🙄
Dj Lux try swapping sides. if the problem still happens, it may just be crappy quality leds
Hey Milan are you planning to do an ECU tune on Layla?
100% :D
Are you gonna grab a canned tune, or get a customized tune? Who are you gonna use? I ask because I am looking into getting a cooper s.
I don't know yet as I haven't looked into them really. I'll probably end up with a custom tune given the mods i'll be running
When I started watching, I was expecting a quick and easy upgrade. In the end it looked like this mod was anything but easy to save an 1.5 " shifter throw. Dropping the exhaust and heat shield to facilitate an install just begs foe additional aggravation and expense.
A couple of observations:
1 - Anyone who has lubricated clutch and throttle cables on a motorcycle often use an oiler tool and cable specific lube. I'm thinking that would be superior to just lubing the first inch or so of cable.
2 - An adjustable vs just a shortened throw shifter. Once you get used to short throw shifts I expect that (unless you need the leverage) you will settle in for the shortest length and leave it there. All I could think, after seeing how involved this install became, that an hour with an angle grinder, and maybe some finish work with a file, emery cloth and a threading die and you would have a shortened shifter without any expense or surprises. just sayin'
do you like hypercars or just fast litle cars
Both :D
or, CAE Ultra Short Shifter
wish you didn't do this to a top spec R56 :( otherwise love it!
What is a top spec R56?
what year is this mini again?
rangers1495 2010
Fouseytube Bruhbruh thanks!
2009 :D
milanmastracci thanks! Minis coming along nice
Hey Milan
Hey buddy :)
Every manual car should come with a shifter with a reasonably shift travel. Mini has UNREASONABLY LONG shift travels like they thought it was a good idea.
I don't even understand why long throw shifters get developed, costs are the same from what I can think, is there ANY advantage in designing a car with long shift throw than shorter shift throw?
why dont u post on your second channel
My dipping one? I've moved away from it, but the videos are still there for others to watch
milanmastracci ok i like that channel i do alot of dip projects myself
Put the mini model number in the title please! Also, wondering how it felt afterwards? Better, more precise?
It was much better! I have since upgraded to a Coolerworx shifter, but it is a bit pricier 👍
It looked like you had no clue what you were doing when you were taking the shifter apart
Just bought the cravenspeed shirt shifter. " take off exhaust" oh fuck mee
A bit of lube on your shaft is usually a good thing, but not in this instance.
All I want to remove is the play that my car's shifter has
where is the wide body
Good question.. Still waiting for it to come in
I feel like an adjustable shifter would break really easily
Depending on what metals they used, and what brand, check reviews before buying things like that..
My car name is also Layla
Its a good name 😊
Try not to get any lube on the shaft
;)
The take-away is sawing the shifter by 2" and replace the rubbers with metal packers to reduce the lag, no need for bling stuffs
except sawing the shifter doesn't change the leverage point under the car. I feel you may have missed the point of how this works. Simply loweing the gear lever doesnt make it a shorter shifter.
@@1061shrink1061 It absolutely does: shortening the shifter reduces the throw which is the whole point of a short shifter. Simples. The rest is all marketing cock&bull
@@stephanegregoire8738 when you drop the adjustment, you're lowering the underneath of the shifter.. NOT just the top. if you just shorten the top part, yes you'll shorten the throw, but minimally. It's the change of the pivot length under the car that makes the biggest difference.
You're either trolling me, or legitimately don't understand how this shifter works.
@@1061shrink1061 not trolling just dumb they said the same thing on another video about this short shifter
You said “essentially” a lot when you meant “literally”
AUT 😂😂
THE UNNECESSARY REPETITIVE EXPLANATIONS NEED TO BE AUDITED OUT. IT WOULD MAKE FOR A MORE ENJOYABLE WATCH.
The videos are too long
Nah man you just gotta take longer shits.
Dude talk normal why u gotta talk like a robot
Potency CS WHAT ARE YOU TAKING ABOUT!!! He certainly does not sound like a robot. Maybe he sounds like one since your watching his vid on your 2003 Motorola flip phone. lol
lmao
