Tried this in my Hamilton Beach bread maker and it turned out perfectly!! I’m so happy my very first Challah was a success! Thank you for this helpful video.
I made your bread recipe and it is a keeper. I'll have to type and print your recipe and attach it to my bread machine. I would have been helpful if you had the recipe in the description for it slowed down the process since I had to re-watch and wait for ingredients to be announced. The part I did different from you was at the end. I blended a stick of melted butter with 2 heads of garlic cloves in a food processor until smooth. I then coated each of the "ropes" with the garlic butter before braiding. No egg wash. Best garlic bread EVER! Maybe I'll do the egg wash next time to see what difference it makes.
Love your videos! You explain very well and concisely. I am always learning something from you! I never thought about the heaviness of the dish towel that you put over the bread. Yesterday i did rolls and it took forever to rise. I was using a very heavy thick towel. I think that impacted it! Thanks so much for the suggestion
Followed these instructions slavishly as I am a breadmaking noob and never thought I'd be making challah! Turned out deliciously! My braiding technique needs a little work though. :)
Add: 3 quarters of a cup and 1 table spoon of water (warm to the touch) 2 eggs 2tbs soft butter or equal amount olive oil 3 cups and a 1 quarter bread flour (pile on top of other ingredients) 2 tbs sugar sprinkled on top Pinch of salt 1 1/2 teaspoons right on top Turn on machine to make dough and place dough in. After let rest for 10 mins on counter or tray with flour on it. Cut into 3rds then shape into 13in ropes and braid together. Pinch ends closed and under. Let rise for 45 min in an oven that was heated to 200 and SHUT OFF BEFORE ADDING Dough with a light towel on it. 1 egg yoke with a tsp of water for egg wash. Add wash and then top with what ever you want or leave plan. Bake at 350 for 25 min or till golden and taps when removed
Thank you for your video Just wanted to let you know that I proof my yeast first. I heat the water in the microwave to about 110 degrees. Remove it and add the sugar and yeast, then return it to the microwave (DO NOT TURN ON) and let it proof for about 10 minutes, Then I dump it in the bread machine pan and add the remaining ingredients. I found that I get a better bread this way. FYI
20 yrs ago i found a bread machine challah recipe i've been making since (from the Jewish Georgian), it also suggested pull-apart rolls besides the braid
New to bread making and I’m watching videos to learn how. I believe without exception, so far, everyone says the salt should never touch the yeast because it will kill it. Your dough rose nicely so do we indeed not need to be so careful with our placement? Lovely bread and excellent video.
I have heard that too, but I don't think the yeast sits on it long enough to do any harm. I've baked a lot of bread in my day and have never had a problem. Thanks for watching! :)
I have been looking for a food product to bring to our Farmers Market. I think this is it. I have a Breadman also.. Going to give it a try. Is kosher salt the same as canning salt.
How do I prevent the dough from sticking to the kitchen towel? I have no idea what I did right it didn't stick once...Beautiful Challah! I think it's my most favorite foreign bread.
I love this bread. It reminds me of when I attended a Jewish preschool. I do have one question though. Shouldn't it be more of a yellow color in the middle? All the recipes I have eaten the inside is very dark in color. Could it be they used more eggs?
I made this bread it came out lovely but, my dough cycle on my machine is three hours long you said yours is about an hour and a half. I did not stop my dough cycle, the bread came out soft it was not a crispy crust, good though but what could i have done differently to have that tap test like yours, and by the way my bread time all together was three hours and fifty five mintues a long time
did you say that u preheated the oven at 200 degrees and then shut off the oven before entering the bread for 10 minutes ? Sorry, audio was bad on my pc.
Whenever I want bread to sit and rise, I turn my oven on a low temp to get warm air in there. Then, I turn the oven off and put the dough in there to puff up. Hopefully that helps! 😊

Great job! I made it today! :) My braid sometimes looks a little different each time.
I've the same machine. So, I'm going to be able to follow your exact recipe and directions.

Will try today!
Love challah bread.. Being from NY, would get a loaf often. Buttered with some homemade strawberry jam.
Sounds delish with the jam! :)
Thank you nice recipe
Most welcome 😊

They are similar salts. In a pinch, you could use canning salt, but I prefer Kosher. Per teaspoon, they would be slightly different.
Thanks for sharing, would definitely need to replace butter if serving with meat.
You could use olive oil if need be. Thanks for watching!

can't find the link in the description to the recipe .. new to bread making and RUclips
The link to the recipe is there. You have to click on "more" in the description box just under the title. Thanks for watching!

Yes, recipes vary as to how many eggs are in it. Eggs would definitely make a more yellowish color. It's yummy, though! :)
A lot of recipes call for an extra yolk. I like this because i never end up using egg whites!

wow threw the camera operator under the bus pretty hard there, that's cold blooded but i respect it
It was light-hearted. :)
I wish you have showed us the bread maker bottoms
Wow. .. awesome .
Have you done all the same steps but actually baked it in the Breadman machine itself?
I used the dough cycle and then it was baked in the oven.
What dough setting do you use? 1 1/2 lb or 2 lb
The 2 lb setting is what I usually use. Thanks for watching!
Salt doesn’t kill yeast and sugar doesn’t help yeast do it’s job. But good recipe minus sugar 😀
Challah Bread needs to add extra 1 or 2 egg yolks
Can I freeze dough?
You can. Thaw completely and let it come to room temp before proceeding on your baking day.
did you say that u preheated the oven at 200 degrees and then shut off the oven before entering the bread for 10 minutes ? Sorry, audio was bad on my pc.

Flour the towel heavily....I keep a towel floured in a plastic bag
Can you please post your recipe?
There is a link in the description. Thanks for watching!
