    Just a few notes .
    1) That doesn't look like the latest generation focusrite solo. The new version looks different and has quarter inch jack outputs vs the RCA outputs on the one used in the test. So would be interesting to see if this NEW version which anybody
buying now would be getting would sound better than this older one.
    2) Most guys using a scarlett interface are not recording out of the outputs into the analog domain. They will be recording and mastering inside the box. They will also be doing internal rendering of the audio. So the audio would not be compromised by the analog outputs in terms of audio quality. ..

I don't know, man. Listened through several sources, and I'm sure RUclips isn't the best at providing a good platform for this, but I think the real story is how bummed I would be if I heard how closely a $150 interface came to matching my $10,000 golden piece of gear.

The Lavry is a complete rip off. Not even worth $500. Think of the opportunity cost of putting that in your studio as compared to other gear. The difference between it and the $100 product (which has more features mind you, like input and 48V phantom power) is near negligible. With the money saved you could buy so many things all of which will have much greater impact on your sound. Not to mention that is the output we're listening to, which aside from it's impact on your mixing is entirely irrelevant. End users don't hear the output of your interface. They do hear the quality of your mics and whole host of other variables.

I feel like a more fair comparison I would love to see someone do, would be tracking through them with the same external preamp. If the source material was already recorded through a budget interface, I don't think you'll hear a difference in a comparison like this. But if the source material was recorded on a high-end setup like a Burl Mothership, than I imagine you would hear a subtle difference. But in a Mastering facility environment, a high-end converters primary purpose is to ensures that no matter what the source material was recorded on, it is not being degraded in any way. What this example tells me, is that the source material was recorded with a better converter than the Scarlett interface, which is why we can hear the difference. So anyone mastering with a budget interface would probably be better off mastering 100% in the box, vs routing to hardware. Just wanted to bring additional perspective for those near the start of their audio journey.

The Lavry is nice and the reality is that it has "THAT" sound from all the major mastering facilities and thus a sound we're used to. A juicy sound. Nice contrast with the clean A/D. So there's value in that Sound. As a house music guy I wonder if that lowend bloom is suitable for the extra punch. This is why I've been looking at the Dangerous rather as that has a more pronounced thump that's not as round as Cranesong/Lavry.... Part of why RME is celebrated in the House world. It has a tight punchy lowend, Also had a Prism that I thought would be nice for Live styles but we have to factor in the Genre and sometimes one can/should do with a flat punchy converter so as to emphasize transient and purposefully lose the extra depth. House Music is not going to require the Lavry so much as the clean punchy stuff... My 2cents in this journey.

Other side that Lavry is presented as a hi-end stuff in pro world. It's all about money actually. If Lavry didn't produced any of DAC chips, these is no way accept this price. Audio interface brand just buy the ADCs and DACs chip and optimized the performance by the peripheral circuit. But the key of the performance is the chips, there is no that much room to optimize. Enclosure, buttons and meter gimmick costed more than the circuit.

But I don't have a treated room, the top-end monitors / headphones .... either way, at 100' times the price, the Lavry clearly is not 100 times better sound. Factor in that 90+ % of people listen on ear-buds / phones / cars and Bluetooth speakers you seriously have to ask what you are paying for.... personally I would never be in the 10K region anyway.... got other things to spend that kind a money on. Amazing Video, from my listening, I the 10k interface sounded alot wider with clearer imaging, whereas the 100 interface had a more mono sound to it, and a noticeably more crushed high end with boomier mids, I would assume that there is more crosstalk in the cheap interface hence the lack of clean imaging, and for the crushed highs and boomy mids, this could be a result of the converters or the cheap components used in the circuitry

I have to thank you for this. I always believed there was absolutely no reason to buy an audio interface more expensive than a few hundred quid, but I never had access to something that costs $10,000. So now I have the ultimate proof.
I have listened to your tracks on my M-Audio studio monitors and on my Shure mixing headphones.
I apologise, but I don't know what you are talking about when you say you lose some of the base or some of the top and all that.
I'd say they sound about 99% identical.
The differences are so small that I would bet my life that the most seasoned technician in the world would have failed a blind test between these two.
Which, by the way - kudos to Focusrite.
My advice to any indie musician, you can't go wrong with an audio interface around the £300-£700 price range. Focusrite, Steinberg, Ronald, PreSonus, they are all good and all kinda the same. It will get the job done, whether you use it to record your album, or to record your podcast.
Make sure you are on at least 24 bit, make sure it has some nice pre-amps built in, and that you get all the connectivity you require and you're golden.

I played the files through my pair of Adam S3Hs (stupidly priced monitors) and then through my JTR 9.2 Atmos setup (evenly more absurdly priced speakers) and the Focusrite ain't that far behind the Lavry. Yes, D/A converters most certainly do vary from entry level to high end but the subtleness would be wasted on the average listener.
The Lavry sounds more opened and the Focusrite sounds smooshed to the middle with its dynamics but does have that overly compressed commercial sound you hear from streaming. Not bad for a 100 USD interface imo.
I personally own the TASCAM 20x20 and the Arturia Audiofuse 8 Pre stacked in ADAT mode; and those two interfaces have never disappointed me.

I have the Solo I use for mobile and an RME Fireface and I've tried mixing productions on both in the studio. For me they sound pretty similar with just a stereo file playback until you start to mix , then the RME just comes alive and I felt I could get a lot more definition and depth in the mix from it. The Solo sounded a little flat this way too.
This could however be my own confirmation bias and wanting the RME to sound better though 😅

Flat sound is major problem of cheap OP's and lot's of harsh (up to 20% error) components after. Good OP's like 275G gives more punch and better impulse response. Which appeared like more alive, real sound. They are expensive compared to OP's commonly used, and i even not talking about hi-end precise OP's. But nowadays lot's of bad 275G components on the market from china.

There are a handful of DA converter chips out there. They do range in price... but not to two orders of magnitude.
What makes the most difference is the quality of the build supporting the conversion chips. The quality of the power supply is critical. Cheap gear often has the cheapest solution in power. The Focusrite is USB powered. The 5v power coming USB bus, derived from a computer power supply is going to be garbage. The crystals for the clock aren't going to be consistent. You're going to find parts that aren't matched very well and have wider (worse) tolerances.
The real argument to be made is are you earning a living from this gear? As someone others are willing to pay money to, you have to beat your competition. More than likely the people paying for yhe service are planning on using the results commercially as well.
While a $100 interface is going to cut almost every corner, a $1000 one will more likely use much better designs and parts.

To me the difference is basically none, but there is definitely SOMEthing different. In my headphones, the Focusrite sounds like it's in front of me, and the Lavry sounds like it's coming from inside my head somehow. I remember when I got my first audio interface around 10-15 years ago, going from ASIO4ALL via my PCs headphone jack to connecting the same exact headphones to a headphone jack on an entry level audio interface was amazing! I remember thinking especially the difference in quality on the reverb was insane, I had no idea what I was missing before apparently 😅
My advice for anyone thinking about getting an audio interface is absolutely do it, the sooner the better, don't save up for anything fancy as a start, even these 100$ interfaces will make a huge difference on the sound in your computer.

…here’s the other point..if you’re listening to it through Streakey’s speaker chain in his room the difference will I guess increase.
I produce using either apogee, avid or uad converters….not a single artist or listener can tell the difference between them or would care.

Nice comparison. You can hear the separation in the sounds! It's kind of ironic that we use the term 'glue', but also want every sound to have its own separate space to live in.
The transient and mid range on the kick is completely different on the Focusrite, it 'sticks out' the Lavry is smoother sounding.. so, according to price, that's the way it 'actually' sounds? The focusrite is lying to your ears about the shape of the kick and low end... weird. That would make me try and fix things that aren't a problem and don't even exist?

Anyone who can justify the £9900 price difference for that sound - a sound that could probably be EQ'd and FX'd into the Focusrite is, frankly, mad. More money than sense. Notice the test wasn't done blindfolded either but I digress a little...
