Very good video, sir! I lived for a year with a slamming door and never even guessed there were possible adjustments just behind the cover. It’s a pretty nice piece of engineering all round.
All I had to do was watch this video and solve the problem in a minute which I had to live with for the last year and half. You are amazingly great and thank you. thank you.
Thank you so much for explaining this so clearly! I had a slamming door at my business that I couldn't work out... until I watched your video... Now it is fixed.
I just got a job at an academy, bullsh*tted in the interview saying I know how to fix many things, when I only know basics. This video was a life saver, much love.
I fixed my Falcon closer thanks to your instructions. Falcon labels the Allen screws (not flat head like the Ryobi) L= Latch speed, S = Closing speed and on the opposite end BC = Back-check. There are almost 100 of these in the building I live in. My favorite aspect of your video is that you have excellent focus up close without your hands getting in the way. As much a I appreciate your guidance, I'm happy that you went right to work without a long intro that included you looking into the camera and talking with your hands gesturing in the air like SO MANY YOU-TUBERS DO. This proves to me you mean business and not self promotion! I happily subscribe.
That was amazinggggg! i bought this door closer online that doesn't come with a manual. we had a hard time installing it, and worst, my son's finger got slammed by the door. I was about to buy a pneumatic door closer, but found this youtube and discovered it's feature. THANK YOU SOOOOOOOOO MUCH!
Thank you so much, this video was very helpful. I needed to make my mom's door close slowly as she has a walker and needs her door to stay open a bit longer and then close fast after she enters.
I miss words to thank you, dear friend... Straight to the point with full DEMO & simple EXPLANATION... NOT easy to pick 1.7K views in such items - Thanks a trillion.
Thank you for explaining this in layman's terms. So many 'How To' videos use terminology that only a rocket scientist could understand. My fire door closed so powerfully that it once knocked me across my hallway and face first in to my huge glass vivarium tank. I escaped with a bruised forehead only thank God, but now, I am safe. THANK YOU!!
Oh My Lord! Why didn't I look for this vid last year?? Thank You so much! The windows no longer rattle when the front door slams. But it no longer slams!
Thank you for explaiing the door closer adjustments so welll and so precisely that anyone can understand. I had struggled a lot with the function of our door closer, watched a couple of vide instructions on RUclips and it nver helped. All those 'How To' videos were quite confusing. You made it simpler and clearer. Thank you!!
I just started a Door, Lock, and Hardware job where they are training me on the job and I learned how to adjust a door closer this past week, although on a different brand of closer. I'm happy to see that the idea of changing the settings is essentially the same on both brands, however the brand that I was trained on uses Allen wrench screws instead of flathead screws. Great video!
Thank you so much. I had a problem with a door in the adjacent unit to mine. It is now being used as a temporary office for Security Guards. Every time someone goes in or out the door slams every loud. I already started having a bit of a meltdown because of it ( sitting at home during lockdown 2) :). Watched your video and fixed the problem in literary 4 min. ( from watching till adjusting screws in the door stopper). Thank you so much!!!!
Fantastic explanation and demonstration. This was the 3rd video I came across, and it’s this one that I managed to sort my front door out with. The first 2 were no help at all.
Excellent video instruction. You are the best! My office have been struggling with this problem as the last part nearer to the closing it slowed down and leaving the door unlatched which in turn triggered the alarm. Many tried to figure out on their own and it left many confounded and confused. I think your 2nd option to let door close slowing initially but faster at the end will certainly ensure proper closing. Thanks!
Thank goodness for this video, the door in my rental doesn't fully close by itself now and most people living here don't realize or don't care. I can now fix the problem in a few minutes instead of endless emails that don't get replies from my property manager. I've finished tinkering with the door and it's closing perfectly now! YAY, i'ts been so fucking hard to heat the place during winter because the slight crack the door left open would gush frozen air through instantly making the heater useless
This is amazing. Thank you so much. Just moved to a new property & the door on this floor slams & wakes me up all the time. Now to get the screwdriver out! 🙏
Thank you so much! My door close is an LSDA (no idea *which* model though, neither the product nor the website is much helpful or has any manuals). But the screws are labeled "1" (top) and "2" (bottom), just like in that Ryobi 8000, and match the first and second stage like you described. My door wasn't closing to the end, and loosening #2 solved it perfectly. All the best!
Ryobi my maalik (maalik means master in my language Hindi), wish others' videos were as logical, transparent and succinct. I hit like even before I tried this method out! I was dreading even exploring the possibility of learning about speed adjustment since the guy who first fixed the door-closer made it sound/appear as if it required extreme technical expertise! But luckily found your video and am happy to share that with your instructions here, I was able to easily solve my door slamming problem! Especially in this Corona lockdown this video turned out to be even more resourceful! Haha! Thank you.
My door was like little earthquake everytime people in and out , thanks to this video right after I watched it I adjusted, it works I'm so happy, thanks again.
Thank you for posting, but which screw controls the tension of the door closer? I find mine too hard to push open the door and I want to release the tension a bit...Any idea?
Thank you for this well explained video… the problem I’m having with my closer or is that it doesn’t pull the door all the way closed. Is there a way to increase the strength pulling the door into the jamb?
This was very well explained, thank you. Now I don't have to worry about the dog having the door shut on its face. And I'm sure my neighbours will appreciate less slamming
Thank you sir. Great training video! I was wondering IF you have any suggestions as to how to stop the "Squawking Noise" as the door is opening or closing. I've tried lubricating all the pivot points on the assembly but the noise appears to be internal to the unit. Thanks.
Good video. However, it failed to demonstrate the "power adjustment control" located at the other end of the unit. My door had been a struggle to open or easily hold ajar requiring conscious effort to prevent from slamming closed. A surprising number of counterclockwise turns later(mine required a 5/16" wrench) plus a little careful adjustment to hit the sweet spot allowing the door to self-close and latch effortlessly and quietly. Also, inside the cover, I found diagrams with detailed instructions for adjusting.
This was really helpful thank you, looks like in Australia the two closing adjusting screws are opposite (top for speed of the ending of the close, bottom for the speed of the starting of the close), just as everything else is down here
YourSelf hi I installed a magnet on the bottom of the inside of the door and on the inside wall as well so when I open it I can push it up against the magnet to hold it in place instead of using a door wedge to hold it open. The only problem is the door is wanting to close shut when pushed all the way open and the magnet is not strong enough to hold it and keep it from closing. I tried adjusting the speed at which it closes but doesn’t seem to ya e anything ti do with it. How can I adjust the tension (not the speed even though they might be related) that it wants to close? Thanks
Thanks for this, mine has leaked some oil, not much maybe like equivalent to 3tbsp. After that it closes abruptly as if working the opposite way of slowing it down instead. Why does oil leak it happen?
Thank you for this video kind sir. My model of Ryobi door closer doesn’t have the backcheck knob. Any idea how to make the door opening easier for my kids? It’s a bit stiff when following manual.
Unfortunately, I couldn't adjust my door to make it open easier either. It looks like only some advanced models have a power adjustment screw. And it's located on the same side as the backcheck knob.
If the mechanism jammed inside, I don't think you can fix it yourself. It's probably best to unscrew the arm or the whole unit so you can at least close the door manually :(
So bit of an odd question is it possible for something to slow the door down to a crawl without adjusting the screws but then fix it by adjusting the screws?
I live in an apartment with heavy doors at the ends of the hallways and leading into the laundry rooms. All have hydraulic door closers. Some doors are quiet and some slam loudly. Apparently the maintenance people don't know how to adjust them.

If you have tightened the latching screw, but it's not slowing down the door, I'm afraid the unit is damaged inside. Did the oil leak out from the door-closer?
Set back check first. This is tell you right away if the closer is installed properly. If the geometry is off the back check wont function at the proper angle. This will effect all other functions as well. After back check is set push the door open until is stops. Turn the closing speed valve all the way in until it holds the door. You can then start turning the closing speed out and the door will start to swing closed. Stop when the speed is where you want it and let the door finish closing. Pump the door a couple times to push the oil through the valves and recheck the swing. Last step set latch check. This happens a few inches before full close. You can slow it down to make it close smooth and not slam or give it a little pop if the door has a small obstruction to over come. If its leaking oil replace it. If your not sure what valve does what turn one all the way in and swing the door it should be obvious what function that valve effected.
Cant tell u how u save me from another big disaster as i got stuck outside due to sudden closure of door due to improper speed adjustment n i had to bring locksmith to break the lock so that i come inside.
Excellent teacher. A model of clarity. Now I'm no longer driven nuts by a slamming door.
Glad it helped!
Very good how to video. Not using a lot of jargon and terms, just explaining the functions so all can understand. Excellent video!

I think Allen wrench adjustable screws are easier to adjust because the flathead screwdriver slips out when turning. Thanks for watching!

Thanks . Great job. Put this one up today thanks to you. Can you make the door easier to open ??????????
Only some models have an adjustable screw to make it easier to open. If you do, it should be in the side center (next to the Back-Check screw).

If you can't find Ryobi, get a different brand from your local store like a Home Depot. Most door-closers look and function similarly.

Thank you very much. However, I did everything but the door still close heavily. I Wonder if the angle of the arms Matters And how it should be?
If you have tightened the latching screw, but it's not slowing down the door, I'm afraid the unit is damaged inside. Did the oil leak out from the door-closer?
