- This scope is quite special. It represents one of the first telescopes to use ED glass in the 1980’s. The optical performance is right up there with the best available modern glass. It also features a “field flattener” lens toward the rear of the OTA to create an extra-large flat field for photographic purposes. Of course this was in the olden days of film. The largest current digital sensor arrays available to amateur astrophotographers cannot take advantage of this large flat field…yet. But, when those detectors inevitably become available, this scope will once again prove to be invaluable. It could easily increase in value over its already high price on the used market.
The mount represents one of the sweetest attributes of this delectable little scope. It all folds into a nice compact package and works with the hallmark precision of all Pentax products. Quality abounds in this little scope from the optics, to the ergonomics to the delightful metallic green color!
