      The most important aspect of this show is that its intelligent. Characters are smart. They act smart. They think, evaluate, strategize and execute plans. They talk like humans, the dont overact. Its a milestone for anime as a whole it shows how western tv approach shapes the eastern tradition into an evolution for the genre. Its brilliant.

      Yeah, but the Vampire Generals weren't very smart. The only intelligent one was Carmella, and it might of been just through sheer luck by not being in the castle. Well of course the jokes aren't funny to him cus they aren't childish like the fmab humor that could be replaced by a pg shows humor without anybody noticing. The humor I'm castlevania is not just nuanced, but actually mature and in some instances witty. Japanese anime humor is all just an over abundance of fan service, mixed with some guy walking in on a girl changing, and then getting his ass kicked. I've never seen any good puns or heard any good pop culture references in anime comedy. The only anime comedies that actually made me laugh were prison school and one punch man (cause it was a good parody of overpowered anime characters).

    I was very surprised how subtle the much more direct references to the games were since most of the time with shows that are based on other properties, particularly anything with famous enemies, it’s always a big show of “hey it’s the famous thing” and it feels like the show’s gonna sit you down for franchise fun time. They use the spear wielding beak guy and his flying assist buddy for a fight and until they actually did the move where spear beak is hauled into the air I did not notice these two since they felt so natural in the group of monsters they popped up with. Same goes for the Dracula fight where he uses one of those gigantic fireballs that appear in his boss fights, it just felt like a thing he can do rather than his super special move. Everything just feels so natural in the setting.

    in my opinion the added episodes and the extra dialogue that came with it, provided some excellent character building, which sometimes felt a bit rushed in season one. season one felt more like a movie that was split up into 4 episodes and season 2 felt more like a season of a series. overall this was the only animated series so far that reached the same level of appreciation from me as avatar, the last airbender did. incredibly smooth animation in both and superb character building and storytelling in both.

    • @quag6989
      @quag6989 6 лет назад +8

      I agree. I love that in both seasons a large amount of time is spent with the villians. No other show I can think of spends that much time solely focusing on the villians motivations, and in the end you're rooting for both sides

    • @naruto00nix
      @naruto00nix 6 лет назад +2

      yeah in my opinion the biggest weakness of season 2 was in fact that the last episode didnt do much more than set up the 3rd season. episode 7 was the finale and episode 8 was just there to show us which storylines are still open

    • @GTK_Aztech
      @GTK_Aztech 6 лет назад +1

      naruto00nix it was a partial set up, but it had closure for Trevor and Sypha, and less so for Alucard.
      I am curious how the story will proceed as the "sequel" to Dracula's Curse is Curse of Darkness, which has Hector and Isaac as hero and villain, respectively, and Hector certainly didn't look to be in position for any heroics by the end of episode 8.

    I didn't think Godbrand was that bad, some people act like that. His passion was in war. Anyway, I watched season 2 last night and I didn't notice most of your criticisms, other than the sound in the fight scenes being weird sometimes. I also thought that some of the dialogue was a bit cheesy, like they'll repeat stuff sometimes, but this was rare, it was mostly pretty good. The only real complaint I'd have is the music, its sometimes orchestrated castlevania music but I feel like it shouldve been more upbeat during some of the fight scenes, even just playing the original nes song that wouldve been great. Otherwise like you said, fuckin awesome.

    I’d also like to say as a long time fan of the series that the attention to detail and characters background is incredible. All of the main character backstories is very accurate to the original lore and timeline of the series. Even down to which Belmonts appeared first chronologically and what roles they played, it adds so much to the show that isn’t necessary to love if but just adds to the overall feeling of love and care that went into the production of the show

    Fantastically choreographed fights, I'm glad you touched on that. The fight with the handful of different night-beasts breaking into the Belmont library was a favourite; by the choreography it was evident these creatures (and the people drawing them) actually knew how to fight and were thinking about it, rather than doing the typical monstery thing and swinging wildly at a target.

    I just finished S2 and I gotta say- while this season has more dialogue than the last one, I didn't ever tgink to myself that it was stretched out or longer than it needed to be. All the scenes in Dracula's castle gave it a kinda Game of Thrones vibe, which I really enjoyed.
    While there were only 3 real fights I remember (Trevor's group against a bunch of demons on the road, the fight in the Belmont library and the fights in Dracula's castle) I thought that they got the balance right. It wasn't too few fights and everytime a fight happened you were excited to see it, as opposed to just growing tired of fught scene after fight scene.
    I also don't agree with your obvious critique of Godbrand. While you may not have liked his humor, he isn't really any more evil than any of the other vampires and had a lot of character and a role in the story. Honestly Godbrand was my favorite character for the last two episodes he was alive in.
    Also the fight scenes were perfect idk what you were talking about regarding the missing frames or shitty sound quality. The sound quality might be scenes where Trevor punches Dracula or other vampires and it sounds like his fists are hitting stone, which is intentional to signify that the punches aren't doing anything.

      That’s not true at all actually,

      per this interview it was the producers who asked for more episodes
      They didn’t have enough episodes to fit the story so they “decided to go to Netflix and ask them to increase the episode count to eight. Fortunately they agreed,”
      They may not have gotten more budget (don’t know if that’s true or not either) but it definitely wasn’t Netflix forcing them to do it.
