    • @DANTVSVERGIL
      @DANTVSVERGIL 3 месяца назад +14

@@TimedRevolverThat’s both true and untrue. Curse of Darkness does show Hector 3 years after leaving Dracula’s service. However, the Canon manga shows Hector IMMEDIATELY AFTER he had left Dracula’s service. Hector was always reserved but was still the strongest Devil Forgemaster between him and Isaac. The reason WHY Hector left Dracula’s service was because he didn’t agree to the killing of humanity, as opposed to in the show where he was just dragged around like a lost puppy. Canonical Hector was sent out (with a legion of demons) to assassinate Trevor Belmont because (despite not being in Wallachia at the time), Dracula/Mathias still felt his presence. So, while Hector was out, he killed his Legion of Demons and ended up fleeing. Hector killing the army of demons is seen right at the beginning of Curse of Darkness since it’s the opening sequence. The Curse of Darkness manga takes place during the events of Dracula’s Curse (which is when Hector ran off) and leads up to right before Hector tracks Isaac down at the beginning of the game. Plus, we also see that Hector got a werewolf, who was going to kill and eat Hector’s future wife (Rosaly), to beg for its life before he killed it.
So this doesn’t have anything to do with “He was still early on…” Warren Ellis willingly and knowingly made Hector into a punching bag, for two reasons. He knew Hector was one of Adi Shankars favorite characters (alongside Alucard hence the whole…Season 3 thing with him), which is important because during the writing he (Ellis) and Adi had a falling out, and two he enjoyed listening to Hector’s voice actor in pain (he said as much in one of the interviews that he was in).

One of the biggest problems with the Castlevania games during the IGA era is that Konami never gave him that large of a budget to develop the games, that's why most of the games where GBA and DS games with recycled assists and the 3D games had the most dull and lifeless environments. Both Lament of Innocence and Curse of Darkness had a shoestring budget and while IGA was good at stretching that budget as far as he can, there's only so much you can do in terms of presentation and story telling with so little to work with. I believe that if IGA was given a far bigger budget all of Curse of Darkness' short coming would easily be ironed out and we would have a masterpiece rivaling Symphony of the Night and Aria of Sorrow.

The problem is that guys like you think Symphony of the Night and Aria of Sorrow are masterpieces. Symphony of the Night was the beginning of the end for the series because once you throw level design out the window and make it all about fighting the same enemies over and over again in mostly flat, featureless hallways and rooms, you've killed the perfect balance of action and platforming Castlevania was always known for. Transfer that into 3D space and you have a poor man's Devil May Cry knock-off.

Really wish a lot of that content was introduced naturally in the game rather than having to read elsewhere for the full enjoyment of the story.
It’s worth noting that in Japan there was ANOTHER manga illustrated by Ayami Kojima called "Prelude to Revenge", which was a pre order bonus that basically acted as a short abridged version of the two Curse of Darkness volumes. What is your opinion on any of this and how extensive are your experiences with the Castlevania series that you are basing your opinions on? I'd really like to know because your whole gripe seems to be that I have a strong opinion on any of this to begin with.
Me referring to some as "kid" was not meant to imply immaturity, but to suggest that they may not have as much experience with the series as they think they do. You would be amazed at how many people talk like they know what they're talking about regarding a particular game series, yet have almost no actual experience with it. For example, you would be amazed at how many of these "Zelda experts" on the internet have never even played a 2D Zelda game. They will scoff at the Wind Waker or Skyward Sword for not having "essential Zelda elements" like horseback riding, despite the fact that there were plenty of excellent games prior to Ocarina of Time. People will gush about Castlevania games that aren't actually very good, like Curse of Despair or Symphony of the Night, yet they have no real experience with many of the older games in the series and dismiss them as garbage because on the surface they look more primitive when actually many of them were better.

I know this is a small thing but I noticed you didn't mention it in the video. If you press square and then x right after, you will perform a jumping attack. Not only can this be used to steal from some of the enemies when you don't have the mage type's time stop ability but lighter enemies are dragged into the air and it can be used to either quickly start an aerial combo or to get in some extra hits instead of ending your ground combo.

I think if the manga-exclusive story elements were put in the game via extra cutscenes and both the plot and characters were more ironed out it could garner more interest and fans. Doubt a remaster or remake is possible at this point, especially with Konami more interested in gambling machines, but hey a man can dream.

I definitely enjoyed curse of darkness's combat more and watching this makes me want to go back and play through it again. Which brings me to this point, I remembered I was so excited about the Netflix anime and found out that Hector and Isaac were both gonna be in it and was like oh my God the characters from curse of darkness are gonna be in it awesome! You can imagine my disappointment with what they did to Hector but ironically that they made Isaac cool....... At least Hector got to smash a hot red haired vampire lol. Still that disrespect that they did to him throughout the show was awful which is why CoD Hector is still best Hector.

It's a shame how underrated this game is. While far from perfect it's still a pretty damn good game, I've been a fan of it since it's release and never understood all the negative attention it got. I can only hope it gets recognition some day and maybe a rerelease or enhanced port with nice QoL upgrades and some bonus content...
Who am I kidding, this is PachinKonami we're talking about here... 😔

On of my favourite games of all time. Thank you bro for this video, not too many people praise this game, and its criminal. Both of the PS2 Castlevania games deserve a full fledged remake. You gained my sub, and you have made my mind up on what game to stream next. MUCH RESPECT

I remember me and my cousin did so much grinding to craft different weapons and evolving our IDs. This game's crafting is so good that it inspired me to take up Materials Engineering back in college and now I am one!

Man I'm so glad my wife introduced me to Curse of Darkness, this game is incredible. Personally my favorite "Metroidvania" style Castlevania.

"The game doesn't explains what this curse of darkness is" I think the opening text crawl alludes to it? People are in the midst of sickness, famine and are killing each other all over europe.

While I like the plot the curse plays, it would've been cool had the curse played some role in the game itself to further show just how powerful Dracula's Curse was. Especially once you enter his newly ressurected castle.

Hi there if you uh...managed to find my comment!
I just wanted to say that along with the right button on the controller doing a combo "finish" the attack type I.D will also do a move dependent on what button you press. The right button will generally involve the I.D teleporting behind the enemy to launch it in the air.
The left button has the I.D teleport in front of the enemy for more damage and generally sends them rolling backwards

I agree. The combat system and crafting of materials into any and all weapons, and them have specific weapon types or in same cases a specific named weapon used to evolve your devils down different paths adds some amazing replayability to this game. I spent many hours grinding to get majority of the evolutions and weapons unlocked! It was fun to do and not too tedious to accomplish!

I do like curse of darkness and I honestly hated how that animated series that came out recently treated those characters. Hector being a little wuss and Isaac being insanely boring. People saying that its the best video game adaptation clearly never touched curse of darkness. Though I still will say I enjoyed Lament more than curse so much so I would put lament in ether first or second when it comes to my favorite castlevania games. A remaster of these two ps2 games for current consoles sure would be nice.

I've yet to play Lament myself, but I do enjoy the OST on that one as well. The PS2 Castlevania's music was Michiru Yamane's best work on the whole.
It really is tragic how they butchered both Hector and Isaac to the point they may as well be Warren's OC's.

I had to go back a bunch of times to actually listen to what you were saying because I kept getting distracted by the soundtrack. Man I love this soundtrack so much I can't help but humming along, I guess it's my favorite soundtrack from a game. And also this was the first Castlevania game I ever put my hands on and I was completely obsessed by it when I was a child, I think it's my favorite game from PS2 and I wish they made more games like this.

When the anime came out, I was surprised how much they changed Isaac (for the better frankly). That being said, having his main demon from this game be his right hand, especially in the fight with Carmilla is a really cool nod.

The anime, from my viewing of the first season at least, was pretty much unrecognizable from the games. It felt like the story was already written and they slapped the Castlevania names into it to sell it.
