Ever considered making video game review videos? Seems you're always coming up with new ideas for videos, well there's enough games out there, some with no good reviews. It's literally an endless supply of source material. Most, if not all retro game collectors watch reviews and research games to buy, just an idea.
Wow, this video was incredible! John, you are such an amazing curator of classic arcade titles! You truly have an unrivaled knowledge of all the best games from '82. I loved seeing how you excitedly discussed these titles, and it was nostalgic for me to see some of my old favorites on the screen again. It was great to reminisce over some of the classic games I hadn't thought about in years! Your videos keep getting better and better - keep up the awesome work!
This takes me back to 21 years old I had home consoles at this time but was no stranger to the arcades. Bump n Jump was one of my favorites lots of good memories watching this video.
Love the 8-bit style of early 80s arcade games: I simply will never get bored of those specific style! There's something who immediately transfers your mind into that era, what a trip.
Ahh the screams of the Sinistar , always a part of that initial ambience wave that would hit you when you walked in, the sights the sounds the lights. *nostalgic sigh*
I'd forgotten Bagman even existed until I watched this video, I know I played it as a kid but obviously not enough for it to stick with me very strongly.
I love the older 80s arcade games. I have an Arcade 1Up Space Invaders that I have modded with a 60-1 Jamma board so it has many of these classics on it. My go to is either Donkey Kong or Mr. Do.
I enjoyed watching people play these games on Starcade back in the day! Some of these games are on Arcade Archives, but others like Pengo, Bagman, and Mr. Do we will have to wait for.
Some of these arcade machines I've never heard of, and I was 11 years old in 1982, the painter one you first mentioned reminds me of Pepper 2 for the Colecovision
Wow, you got me with Domino Man. I've never even heard of it. Our mall had a solitary cabinet (no arcade) for a few years and the two games I'll always remember are Bagman and (DK bootleg) Crazy Kong. Two very odd games for different reasons - but I love them.
Sinistar as an Assist Trophy would've been amazing! Break open an AT case in the game, white light flies upward, background turns pure black... ... _"BEWARE; I LIVE!"_ or _"I HUNGER, COWARD!"_ or _"RUN RUN RUN!"_ or just _"Rrrr! Rrrr!"_ and down he comes!
Bagman was a great game. Kind of an early version of Load Runner. I loved dropping the money on the guards or getting in the railcar. Also loved when you lost a life and the guy said "ai yi yi!" in his French accent.
I used to play bubbles on a midway arcade classics ps2 game. It was on ps1 too. It had tapper, burger time, bubbles and one called food fight, among others
I have vivid memories of playing Popeye at Showbiz Pizza. My favorite place to go as a kid. Had a few birthday parties there. Loved the Rock-afire Explosion!
I'm not a big fan of score attack games, so this took me by surprise with how many favorites it has: Bubbles, Burger Time, Dig Dug, Joust, SUPER PAC-MAN; tons of great titles here!
Wasn't a big fan of Qbert, but Sinistar always had me. Whenever I went to Putt putt video in Albuquerque, at least one of my tokens would always end up in Sinistar. I sucked at it, but loved it!!!
LOL - OMG BUBBLES!!! That was my jam in the 4th grade at my local mom and pop pizza restaurant. They didn’t get it until 86, and I think it only stayed in there for a year..to be honest..I think I was the kid that gave it the most quarters 😂. My step dad bought a used super pac man cabinet for our garage when I was in the 5th grade. I used to play it and Centipede almost daily if I got my homework done.
Back in 1985, the Straw Hat Pizza in town had a sit down BagMan table. If you unplugged it and plugged it back in, it would start you off with 100 credits ❤
Mr. Do!, Mr. Do's Castle (known as Mr. Do vs the Unicorns in Japan) Mr. Do's Wild Ride, and the extremely obscure, released as a kit only practically at the beginning of the Great Video Game Crash, Do! Run Run.
I always suspected the game Zoom! for the Sega Genesis was a clone of an old arcade game. Now that I’ve seen Amadar, I can definitely say that’s where it came from!
One 1982 arcade game I enjoy quite a bit is Kangaroo. It's a pretty blatant clone of Donkey Kong, even going so far as having monkeys as the main enemies, but it's notable for being an early game besides Ms. Pac-Man featuring a female protagonist.
Mario was known as 'Jumpman' in the original Donkey Kong. It wasn't until after NOA moved from New York to Redmond that he was given his permanent name change. He was named after the landlord of the Redmond, WA. office at that time. On a different note, do you want to know how Kirby got his name? It has to do with the lawsuit Universal Studios filed against Nintendo relating to the original Donkey Kong.
bagman I discovered in mame! interesting one for sure. Bump n' Jump I remember renting on NES! was kinda fun. dig dug, what can I say? there was a pizza place I used to frequent that had it and sank a fair amount of quarters into it. I remember popeye on NES when I was first getting into the system! shout-out to the williams stuff I mostly got into via arcade's greatest hits on SNES!
BagMan - There was a port of this to the C64 called BagitMan. I have no idea if it was official or not. A while bag, there was a homebrew sequel called BagMan Strikes Back. There was also a fairly recent BagMan port to the Amiga. Mr. Do - I don't know if they were official (I assume they were), but all those games were released for the C64. Super Pac-Man - When I got a copy of this (C64), I didn't even know it was an arcade game. I just thought that someone bought the rights to the Pac-Man name and made their own game from it. Zaxxon - The only C64 game I ever had on cassette. The game was good, but it took forever to load. I did get fairly good at that version though.
Great vids... although Food Fight came out in 1983 I believe? Just been to an arcade place in the UK that has almost all of these machines.. had such a fab time.
happy to share my vid I took of the arcade place with many of these real arcade cabinets... But I think You Tube keeps blocking the comment. Just reach out to me if you want to see it.
Okay, my review of these games😊. Amidar: Never heard of it Bagman: Never played it when I was a kid, barely aware of it as an adult. Bubbles: Also never knew about this game when I was a kid but now, had played it on emulators and is really good 👍 Burger Time: played it all the time when I was a kid, loved it 👍even though I sucked at it😅. Dig Dug: Played it quite a bit when I was a kid, not as fond of it as much but still nostalgic👍😊. Domino man: never heard of it until you mentioned it🤷♂️. Donkey Kong Jr.: played it all the time😊, love it👍 Eyes: never heard of it until you mentioned it🤷♂️. Food Fight: was aware of it, never really played it back than😕. Popeye: Played it a bit when I was a kid, not a fan than but have become more appreciative of it as an adult👍😊. Q*bert: played it all the time, not my absolute favourite but still great😊👍. Robotron 2084: played it a couple of times when I was a kid, didn’t really like it👎. Sinistar: played it once in the arcade cuz that was the loud one in the back corner and it it really turned me off👎. Super Pac-Man: wasn’t a fan when I was a kid👎but have grown to appreciate it as an adult 👍. Zaxxon: Definitely aware of this game when I was a kid but really didn’t play it🤷♂️. P.S., game’s that definitely came out in 1982 that you didn’t mention but I highly recommend are Millipede, Pole Position, and definitely the best one of the year, Tron😅.
Bagman was ported to the ZX Spectrum under the name Gilligan's Gold by Ocean in 1984. It was infuriatingly hard. Or maybe I was just bad at playing it, whichever. :P
Williams had a show in Milwaukee in 1982, maybe 83 and had free play arcade games set up in the MECCA convention center in Milwaukee. Who was there????
Video games were never as fun to me as this era was. So much cleverness. Of course I've enjoyed games over the decades, but to me, this was the Golden Age.
@@jupitermenace9920 What I love most about my life now is that I have a job I like. More the direct deposit now every week. It's more of the fact I don't have to deal with the bank teller or wait at a said bank machine to deposit a cheque. I just go online whenever I want to check my money. That is super fast & convinient. Exactly when you buy digital games. You just browse & click whatever game you want. Saves lots of time not dealing with stores to buy them physically.

1981? Donkey Kong...and others.
Hello, John Riggs do you play PS4 and Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 Road To Boruto? I win the game and got all the "STARS" in Ninja Storm 4!
1982 was a really great year for arcade games!
that ape and paint roller game!!! loved that on atari :):)

Hastings PA 1983 the local store (not sure which) sold fresh donuts and had a bump and jump game. Forever I’ll associate fresh donuts with that game.
@Ryan Yoder it's good memories I love how these videos can take me back for a bit.
Love the 8-bit style of early 80s arcade games: I simply will never get bored of those specific style!
There's something who immediately transfers your mind into that era, what a trip.
SO glad you're doing these types of videos again!
Yeah, it's been a while!
I was born in 1982, so the closest to playing an arcade game was if my mom pushed my stroller past a video arcade while shopping at the mall lol.
Wished they had a home council game for Mr. Do!! Luved that game too - even more than Dig Dug
Bag Man was great on the Commodore 64. I played this for hours on end.
4:34 That is a great animation on eating the ice cream! Awesome topic for a video dude. I need to check out your 81 video and future ones too.
I love the older 80s arcade games. I have an Arcade 1Up Space Invaders that I have modded with a 60-1 Jamma board so it has many of these classics on it. My go to is either Donkey Kong or Mr. Do.

Two very odd games for different reasons - but I love them.
Hadn't thought of Bagman, Bump 'n Jump, or Pooyan in quite awhile. love them all
Sinistar as an Assist Trophy would've been amazing!
Break open an AT case in the game, white light flies upward, background turns pure black...
... _"BEWARE; I LIVE!"_ or _"I HUNGER, COWARD!"_ or _"RUN RUN RUN!"_
or just _"Rrrr! Rrrr!"_ and down he comes!
Pooyan, Bump n Jump and Super Pac-Man were my favorites. And honestly the last time I played all 3 at the arcade was nearly 25 years ago.
Bagman was a great game. Kind of an early version of Load Runner. I loved dropping the money on the guards or getting in the railcar. Also loved when you lost a life and the guy said "ai yi yi!" in his French accent.
Do Run Run 😂💯
1982 was amazing for games! One that I might add to your list is Pepper II . Remember it? Tough but addictive game.

So many wonderful games! Never played Do Run Run but a big fan of the other 3.
Bagman had that on the C64, loved it and same had no idea why I was doing.
Wasn't a big fan of Qbert, but Sinistar always had me. Whenever I went to Putt putt video in Albuquerque, at least one of my tokens would always end up in Sinistar. I sucked at it, but loved it!!!
Awesome video John. So many of my personal favorites came out in 1982. Love these kind of videos. Kudos!
Mr. Do! was my game! Still is one of my favorites.
I still play Bump n Jump and Burger Time to this day, they never get old.
Bagman IS a good game! Tough, strategic, and addicting. Two games were on C64, and they're still making new games in the series today.
Man, 1982 was a good year for arcade games!
There is a ZX Spectrum version of Bagman called Gilligan's Gold that is well worth a look, amazing music
There is a home version of Bag Man..... It's Gilligan's Gold by Ocean software on the ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64, and Amstrad too I believe
I was in the womb for most of '82, so I was looking forward to playing Journey Escape. I won on my birthday.
I played a lot of 2600 Amidar, too. A lot of these games had good 2600 ports and 5200, too. I have never heard of Bubbles nor Eyes, though.
Ms Pac-man, Dig Dug, Moon Patrol, and my all time favorite '82 game, Burgertime, made for a great year. fantastic
Popeye too!
I never knew that about burgertime drops until just now! That's crazy. You learn something everyday.
Eyes is great! My buddy and I fight over the high score at Galloping Ghost arcade when we are there!
I love Bagman so much, it's the only arcade machine I own, I have three different Bagman T-shirts... can play for hours on one credit, great game! 🎮👍
These games are the reason why I built my own arcade cabinet.
Man I loved Sinistar. Tron was maybe my favorite from 82. Discs of Tron in 83 was even better
Arcades introduced me to gaming back in the early 80s.
I used to play moon patrol at the greyhound bus station in California!! Great times 😎👍
One more to add for 1982. Frenzy.
Donkey Kong Jr.,Burgertime,Bump and Jump,Dig Dug,Moon Patrol ...if I had any quarters left over after playing Donkey Kong and Pac Man.
Holy cow was that a great year for video games. And I'm glad you said Zaxxon sucks. lol. Thanks for the video, John.
bubble is one of the best arcade games still love playing that
So many neat games I played as a 12 years old in NY!👉😃👈
I used to play pengo at the Vineland drive in! Great times 😎👍
Great video 👍
I like hearing when you say a game sucks because it's so rare.
Loved dig dug and Mr doo.
Back in 1985, the Straw Hat Pizza in town had a sit down BagMan table. If you unplugged it and plugged it back in, it would start you off with 100 credits ❤
Our SkyShark at Red Robin would do the same.
I loved BurgerTime! Sinistar was awesome!
Oh yeah! Love me some DigDug. Anytime I see one, I HAVE to play it. I was late to work once because of DigDug. It was worth it. 😂
Mr. Do!, Mr. Do's Castle (known as Mr. Do vs the Unicorns in Japan) Mr. Do's Wild Ride, and the extremely obscure, released as a kit only practically at the beginning of the Great Video Game Crash, Do! Run Run.

Yes! I love Kangaroo! And let’s not forget that it even got it’s own segment in season 2 of Saturday Supercade!
i was 9 years old at the time when these games came out. i was too busy playing the Atari at home to notice these games in the arcade.
Alright!! I have been having the crappiest day in months. But a new John Riggs video! Things are looking up
Sorry to hear that. Hopefully things get better for you.
@@tonyp9313 thanks man. But guess what? My day got waaaaaay better.
A lot of these are playable on the SNES with _Arcade's Greatest Hits_ (1996) and _Arcade's Greatest Hits: The Atari Collection_ (1997).
My mom had Burger Time for the NES, lol. That was so fun.

I'm using a MiSTer.
I was 6 when I first played Donkey Kong Jr. I had a huge sense of betrayal because Mario was the bad guy. I enjoy it now.
I’ve never seen Domino Man before but it looks pretty cool!

I agree with 100% about the Mr. Do complitation set and about Zaxxon sucking
You need to check out Mad Planets, Solar Quest, and Star Castle.
Many of those (Robotron, Food Fight, Dig Dug) were good games I enjoyed playing. Zaxxon was addictive but the isometric shooter is an acquired taste.
Moon Patrol and Bump and Jump for me!
had moon patrol on the ole 2600 it was a pretty fun game even back then
same!
Everything great came from 82
