- We got an opportunity to chase seaplanes with our drones! Chasing moving objects is already a challenge on its own, but chasing planes over water just adds an extra element to the mix. Luckily, our pilots are up to the task!

In the video description for each rotor riot video I'd love to start seeing the drone that each pilot is flying! Helps new flyers understand what quads these guys are flying and what they can do

@@steviefpv yeah I really like them all they got me into the hobby but then I started seeing how they really are there's nothing more I want but to go to the road rampage I checked out the tickets $800 if you want to go fly with them and everything and at the minimum is going to cost you $300 just to fly

Same here. He flew it like it was a race drone going around a gate, but it was an expensive cinematic rig over a moving plane.
@@breakflight Also the Propeller of the Plane is generating a whole lot of thrust and suction that one has to pay attention to, when flying infront of it

Fantastic shots, and appreciate the very detailed and explicit "don't do this; here's just a part of our precautions so that we _can_ do this" up front for all the new folks who just see a pretty thumbnail and click it without any idea of the struggle to balance safety, regulation, and independent operation in the US.

This made me so tense seeing quads go in the water. I loved Vannys explosion from nerves as he landed in one piece.

I live where the vegetation in the woods or corn and soybean fields will make a dropped drone really hard to find. I record my gps and other telemetry to my radio which I find invaluable.

The cinematic quad vanover brought out murdered the other quads in terms of footage. Would love to see an episode on it
This looks definitely like a job for a seven inch quad with GPS. Even if the quad does not RTH to the moving boat it could still stay in the air instead of splashing down on failsafe.
Last thing you want with manned aircraft around is a drone in the air that you don't have control of. Much safer if it just drops out of the air
@@richardbulger Agreed. But shutting down the motors is even less control than position hold (e.g. with INAV).
At least you have the home arrow pointing you the correct boat... Unless it's moving.
I was told once low flying over water is risky because the drone will fail safe off its own signal.... Very cool video though! Keep it up crew!
I fly low over water all the time. I have NEVER had a failsafe with crossfire. They were flying on 2.4ghz when they failsafed
Drib on Crossfire and Vanover on Ghost, if I understood correctly. Interesting that they both were able to outrun their respective video signals. Especially in Drib's case.

Maybe next time "if there any chance of a next time :P" you can bring with you a bottle of compress air or a blower so if you go down into the water once you retrieve it you just blow some air on it removing some of the water from the components and again MAYBE, a quick-dry will give it an opportunity of flying again.

Straw hat sam's le pigeon is such a sick build. You should check out the manta ray if you like the pigeon it's designed like it too for a naked bmpc

Great video guys! The only 2.4ghz radio system I would use if I had to use 2.4ghz on a lake would be ELRS or Ghost. But 900mhz Diversity is the righ tool for the job.
A Video about the Le Pigeon would be very interesting.
Drib on Crossfire and Vanover on Ghost, if I understood correctly. Interesting that they both were able to outrun their respective video signals. Especially in Drib's case.

Why has rotor riot not come out with a foam block the shape of a top or bottom plate made out of the same material that those boat key chains are made from. Just for flying over water.

Thinking about a similar trick with my LR build, for going over water. Was thinking foam underneath or something similar.
Also been trying to figure out a similar idea when I get my ultralight license. Although probably not going to happen, as I don't have any close friends that fly fpv, and i would also be the only one with an ultralight license. So can't do both at the same time lol.

Why do you need an ultralight license for an fpv?
@@KamerenB Don't need it for fpv, but am going to start flying ultralight aircraft, and following with a quad, was one of the ideas I had. Lol. Although I think I do get my radio license through the training. So then I can legally use all of the channels and power levels on a vtx

@@KamerenB thank you! Definitely, I just started fpv several months ago as well, and it can for sure be a lot to take in at first, with what you can fly, where and in what way. Awesome to have channels like this, to show us newbies the ropes haha 😄
As far as I know for fpv, the main licenses you need are a ham radio license for some video feed frequencies, and a basic license in canada, or the equivalent in the states for anything over 250g. (Forgot the FAA regulation number, I know part 107 is mainly for business or monetary purposes, as well as some extra privileges, down there. Equivalent to the advanced license here)
@@off-grideverything533 Man they’re cracking down in the states. I went ahead and got my part 107 just to be safe. Definitely not trying to pay any hefty fines. 🥵 I only have a Mavic 2 zoom at the moment. This page amazed me at the quality of video you can get out of an fpv though. They’re also really humble dudes as well so for sure on that.

So I has critical question, you're only using 1 bottle on the drones, I've found I needed 3, can we please have a video about how many bottles is enough?
They are light enough for one bottle to float the drone for retrieval, however this isn’t enough to float the drone up right out of the water if that’s what you’re asking.

@@Dosclic98FPV I think they were all on ghost, ghost is amazing so I’m not sure what happened I think they should’ve bumped the output power higher and it would’ve been fine
Are there any other reasons you arent using a gps module for RTH on failsafe expect the weight of the gps module?
they just used their normal drones also dont think gps would be that good on a moving boat
Maybe for the safety of the manned planes? Otherwise, you could set rth and hover and at least have a better chance of recovery.

Setting up GPS equipment on a freestyle quad adds an incredible amount of weight. That's generally reserved for long-range, stable-flight builds and DJI-likes.
@@rmdcade1717 What are you talking about? No arcobatic freestyle in this video. Just stable (mid-range), cinematic flight over water. The gps doesn't prevent you to doing this.
@@HorCsa I don't know how to tell you this, but their use of freestyle quads for cinematic flying doesn't magically install a GPS unit in the build.
@@rmdcade1717 Yep. This is the question. Some (jst) cable , 10 mins +5 gramms gps, set betaflight and voala. Not mutch time and weight than install that bottle. If you use your quad over innaccessable place, it's worth it.
