    SRX aftermarket headlights: amzn.to/3TRWoCf
    SRX aftermarket fog light kit: amzn.to/3TtC9tk
    LEDs for the headlights: amzn.to/2FgHtxn
    LEDs for the fog lights: amzn.to/2FlWAWh
    Driving my SRX at night has been a headache since I bought the car. I discovered that the problem is not the bulbs but the headlights manufactured by GM.
    I went all out, I bought a set of new headlights, fog light kit and LED bulbs. I spent 4 + hrs in the garage (and run out of batteries to record everything), but I made it. The final result is much better than I expected. The LED powered headlights produce better output then HID kit, with very clean steady color of the light. See your self.

    • @TheRealMeCoWhy
      @TheRealMeCoWhy  5 лет назад +2

      This is 2012 Luxury trim. The headlights and LED bulbs install is recommended while you have the headlights off. The fog lights help a lot as well. I just drove it 700 miles at night and it was a good experience after the upgrade.
      It took me 4hrs to install, but that includes time to setup camera, install and wire up the fog lights (it took me a while to figure out how to route the wire).

    • @TheRealMeCoWhy

      @Paul Powers
      I have a 2015. Dealership told me it would void warranty. Took it to them and they replaced. Only made it 10-20% better. Worse still, they didn't adjust, so the road 6 feet in front of the hood is lit, then a dark black line and total darkness. Completely unsafe to drive at night. I'll never buy another Cadillac just because they know it's a design flaw and refuse to fix it even though it endangers their customers and all other drivers who are around Cadillac drivers who cannot see at night.

    • @c.miller2460
      @c.miller2460 3 года назад

      @@popopopo5339 No. Unfortunately, the new bulbs Cadillac installed only made the problem 10-20% better. It fixed the condensation problem, that's all. The problem is in the design. Now, I am going to buy new headlight assembly package (after market) and have them installed. It is unsafe to drive in the dark without doing so. There was a class action lawsuit, so Cadillac is well aware of the problem and has not fixed it for their customers. That decision will cause them to lose many customers. Pathetic that I drive behind Hondas, Toyotas, Hundais, etc and their headlights illuminate the road for this Cadillac driver driving behind them. I wish you the best of luck and safety.

    • @popopopo5339
      @popopopo5339 3 года назад

      @@c.miller2460 I rarely drive at night time. I turned on the high beam all the time when I drove at night last week. Today I took my car to an auto shop to replace the whole headlight assembly with the aftermarket kit. I was quoted for $1600 including labor for halogen headlight assembly(HID assembly will be more expensive, however they don’t recommend HID kit due to the wiring. As MeCoWhy said, the problem lies in the headlight kit, not the bulb. So does this mean halogen assembly with halogen bulbs is gonna improve the brightness significantly, right?

    Is there a way to fix the driver's side shutter on a 2008 Caddy CTS? I read that there has been an issue with the wiring to the solenoid that controls the high beam shutter on the CTS with HID Xeon bulbs. Any information or links would be great. Or if there is NO fix for this, what about changing out both assemblies over to Halogen or LED projector housings? A new pair of those can be had for about half of what just ONE OE HID shutter housing costs? What would be required to make the conversion possible? By now somebody has surley figured out a way to do that! Thanks!

    • @TheRealMeCoWhy
      @TheRealMeCoWhy  5 лет назад

      I am not familiar with the CTS or the solenoid issue. I do not think it should be very difficult to fix. If you are a handy person you should be able to check where the issue is and possibly take the headlight apart and replace the solenoid or fix the wiring. I do not know what effort it would be as I have never done it.
      Downgrading from factory HID to halogen might be difficult. Not only there is different wiring and harness for the headlights, but your most likely your car would need to be re-coded at the dealership for non HID headlight.
      The 3rd possible option would be buying a used headlight from the HID model, but without the bulb or ballast, as these are the most expensive components (and are often removed by the sellers anyway). Move the bulb and ballast from your headlight light to new one and hopefully that should solve the issue.

      The reason is that the reflective material inside the OEM headlight deteriorates and it is not reflecting the light out no matter how good the bulbs you would put in are. You need to start with new headlights to see the results you are after.

    Hi! This is a great video! Thanks!
    I have a 2012 SRX (base model). It came with Halogens that I upgraded to LED and then upgraded AGAIN to HID. Frankly, it's better, but far from what is needed. Now, from what you have said and the comments/replies posted, it appears the actual housing is at fault. The problem is the low-beams. The high-beams are adequate.
    A couple of questions:
    First, you obtained new housing with new LED bulbs. At the end of the video, is that the high-beams you are showing or the low-beam projectors? Because, my current high-beams are okay (they are not the projectors, obviously). The problem is the low-beam. Those are really bad, even with the HID upgrade. I'm willing to can the whole mess if I can FINALLY fix this.
    Second, you said the factory-style fog lamps require not only a switch replacement but reprogramming by the dealer? What is that all about? I've seen OEM fog light kits with the correct OEM switch replacement which I believe I would prefer.
    I've already blown a few hundred dollars trying to solve this problem with no luck. I'm willing to try again if you think I can solve the low-beam problem. BTW, I clicked on the replacement housings link and Amazon says those are no longer available. Do you have any other recommendations?
    Thanks!
    Chuck

      Hi there. My SRX is 2012. There is a factory fog light kit that can be added on - it runs around $1000 with installation. Most dealerships are not aware of it. You need to get the part number to them so they can look up the install instructions. They would need to recode the car's computer to operate the OEM fog lights. The kit I installex is an aftermarket one and does require the car to be coded.

      I experimented with an HID kit before getting new headlights and LEDs as well. I had the same issue you do with the HID kit.
      The LEDs work out of the box, however you need to get a proper set. I ordered this specific set because it came CANbus ready. They also work with lower voltage while driving with DRL on. If the set you ordered is CANbus ready and works in range from 9v to 24v, you should be all set.

      @TheRealMeCoWhy  5 лет назад +1

      The battery died when I was recording that. In thise case, you cannot go back to redo it :(. You have 3 wires in the kit: ground (there is ground bolt near the battery box), 12v (connected to the battery), and 12v accessory (to turn the lights off when the car is off). I connected the 12v accessory to a fuse in the fuse box that powers up when you start the car. I do not remeber the fuse number.
      The switch was wired from the engine compartment behind the fender and the door seal into the inside the car. I then hid it between the dash panels and put the switch next to the headlight switch.

      Cadillac offers fog light kit as an aftermerker accessory. It is quite expensive and so is installation. Most dealers don't even know they do.
      GM headlights are junk, you need aftermarket set. Any mechanic would be able to install them for you. The LED bulbs must be CANbus ready in order to not throw an error.
