  • What is this thing hanging from my gas grill? I'll show you!
    This demo does not follow the full procedure for lighting the grill with this method. Make sure the gas burners are off, light the match, put the match near the burner, and turn the gas on. That avoids any gas build up and nasty surprises (BOOM!).

    The igniter on my grill just broke earlier this month. After seeing this I bolted out of bed and ran outside, sure enough the grill has this too. My third eye has been opened, thank you

      It is illegal, it's classified as driving with an obstructed view, cops can write you a ticket for anything hanging on your mirror as well, even air freshener. Alot of driving laws are there to give cops a reason to pull you over which then gives them a chance to see more of your car and you to see if they can find anything else your doing wrong... It's scummy but it's how the world works

    Used to install them on weber grills at the factory, it is indeed a match holder, we used to call them roach holders as a joke though

      ​​@@jorgeo1492they may have had a slot in the past, but now the instructions say to do just this, put it down through the grates and past the drip shield ("flavorizer bar) and near the burner to light it. Also every grill is different

    The proper way to match light a grill is to light a match and toss it in, then turn the gas on and close the lid. You grill is successfully lit when the lid blows open

    Oh. I found this hanging on the deck, from a previous owner, had no idea what it was for. I needed something to hold a loose rain gutter under the deck. So I put the chain across a post, wrapping the gutter and the long metal piece supports it from falling. Thanks 😂

      To Pierce the film seal on the tube. Rarely on caulk but often on adhesives such as gripfill.
      If you were taking the piss I fell for it and you’re welcome to a good laugh at my expense. 😂

    I learned just this summer that our grill igniter has batteries and that’s the reason we had to hold the ignition button for so long because they very basically out of juice.

    You're supposed to light it through the little hole in the side, which is visible when you're lighting the grill from the top.
    Reading the manual is informative, but clearly from the comments nobody does lol.

    You can also stuff a paper towel in the hole, light the paper with a lighter and then light the grill

    There’s a hole on the side you can put that match through there too, so you don’t have to take the grates off.

      You’re right, it’s not designed to hold a match. It’s designed to secure the propane tank

    I blew myself up when I tried to light my barbecue with a match a few years ago. I burned off almost all the hair on my arms and toasted my eyebrows and eyelashes fairly good and it looked like I had a sunburn for a little while. Needless to say I scarred myself fairly good.

    More specifically , it’s so u don’t have remove any grill parts that may impede you from holding match near burner. Instead you can light and then push through the grill to the burners to ignite

    Well, there’s also a hole on the left side of the grill. You write a long lighter and then stick it in there. It might grow a lot easier and putting a match on something where it’s gonna blow out in the wind OK

      No it’s not, the chain is a safety link for the propane tank. It’s never safe to use a match to light a pilot.
