- What is this thing hanging from my gas grill? I'll show you!
This demo does not follow the full procedure for lighting the grill with this method. Make sure the gas burners are off, light the match, put the match near the burner, and turn the gas on. That avoids any gas build up and nasty surprises (BOOM!). - Хобби

11 minutes early
The igniter on my grill just broke earlier this month. After seeing this I bolted out of bed and ran outside, sure enough the grill has this too. My third eye has been opened, thank you
Nice! Time to grill something!
Buy a candle lighter
Just throw the match in while it's lit
@@turquoisephoenix6548 my barbecue doesn't work like that
Why not just throw a match in?
I assembled countless gas grills when I worked at a hardware store and not a single human being there knew wtf it was for. Thank you for the video 😂😂😂
Dose no one read a manual 😅
That's what I was going to say!😂😂😂😂@@kooll2401
I did after I bought my first Weber professional grill and read the manual over 40 years ago when I was 16..
@@homesteadhaven2010 cool
@@kooll2401 just the instructions to put it together
Just like it took me till I was 16 years old to learn that turning on the interior light in your car while driving is not illegal
😅😅😅😅😊
No but the cops can pull you over for it because it could be a distraction. Very wishywashy
It is illegal, it's classified as driving with an obstructed view, cops can write you a ticket for anything hanging on your mirror as well, even air freshener. Alot of driving laws are there to give cops a reason to pull you over which then gives them a chance to see more of your car and you to see if they can find anything else your doing wrong... It's scummy but it's how the world works
@@Ton12no, they actually cannot. This is the excuse they use in known drug dealers/drug dealers to have “probable cause” to search vehicles, then they makeup a more believable lie afterwards to actually legally search your vehicle. Welcome to the real world where none of your rights matter!
Not illegal but it kills your night vision and causes so many reflections inside the cab.
Used to install them on weber grills at the factory, it is indeed a match holder, we used to call them roach holders as a joke though
Isnt it to slide into a slot where the ignitor sits?
@@jorgeo1492they may have had a slot in the past, but now the instructions say to do just this, put it down through the grates and past the drip shield ("flavorizer bar) and near the burner to light it. Also every grill is different
Thanks, now I will use it as a roach clip
Roach clip. Haha.
Yeah “a joke” ;)
"Are you tellin' me that for forty years..."
I even herd his voice reading your comment. HEH *light cough
LOL
Ain't no way
I hate that guy, the way he talks gets on my nerves, and my mom would watch his vids 20 in a row
"... I been burning all the hair off my arm, and all this time I could've been doing this? Pffftt... Ain't no way!"
I like the lightning grounding wire explanation better
I remember using one of those to light the floor furnace YEARS ago.
The first short that actually taught me something.
54 years. Just learned this just now.
The proper way to match light a grill is to light a match and toss it in, then turn the gas on and close the lid. You grill is successfully lit when the lid blows open
People who try this 🧑🦲
Ihave neverseen this but nice toknow
Eyebrows are dumb anyways
Can confirm, is true.
Thanks Crankshaft!
It's a blunt holder!
😂😂😂
Lol this comment 100% deserves the Denzel Washington "MY MAN!" 😂❤
😂
It’s a roach holder
Oh My Goodness!!! I've had my grill for longer than I care to admit and have never known what that thang was for! Thanks for pointing out what should have been obvious.
Just got my first propane grill recently and i thoight this was a safety chain to go around the propane tank lol
I'm kinda remembering that too. It had something to do with the gas tank. But if it holds a match...
Me too girl Wtf 😂
Always wondered this
Now see THIS is a "I was today years old" type of thing. Thank you. Never knew what that was and never really tried to find out
Grill igniters never go bad, lol..... i just replaced mine. So I'll keep it for another 13yrs
Holy crap. I’ve owned grills for way too many years and I never knew that. Thanks! Now, to find some matches
Welllll I’m glad to know this after I’ve hand lit burners countless times. Nice to know that I’ve had several lowkey panic attacks that could have been avoided 😅
My dad for some reason didn’t buy a grill instead he bought a smoker and honestly it’s the best purchase he’s ever made
FINALLY! After all these years I know. Thank you!
Simple explanations are always the best.
Now that it’s said, it seems so obvious 🤦🏻♀️
“Without…. getting exploded👀..” 🤣😂
Wow, I don’t think those words have ever been strung together like that, nor should they be.
BUT great information. I’m surprised at how many people didn’t know this.
Oh. I found this hanging on the deck, from a previous owner, had no idea what it was for. I needed something to hold a loose rain gutter under the deck. So I put the chain across a post, wrapping the gutter and the long metal piece supports it from falling. Thanks 😂
Hey! I just learned something new today! 😃
I lost sleep over this wire and chain ⛓️ thanks for your video. Now I know 😊
I always wondered and never looked it up. Now I know
Wow. This clip has actually taught me something. ❤
In fact it goes through that hole in the chassis just to the right of where you lit the grill!
Thanks for answering my internal question. I was about ready to yank it off our grill. I think I will leave it now.
Omg thank you I have been wondering about that for years
Yeah, I totally had no idea what the hell this thing was for this is awesome, thank
Learned something new today
Amazing! I got one with my Ooni gas burner. I was baffled. I originally thought it was clear a clog of some sort. Thanks.
Wow! I didn't know this. Thank you 😊
I usually just drop the lit match next to the flame bar
Showed it to my dad and he was like I always wonder wtf that thing was thanks brother!
I’ve been selling grills at Home Depot for like a year and a half and never knew that. Thanks
I usually just put that thing up to my eye and talk like I’m the monopoly guy from Ace Ventura. Haha
Hey . . . thanks for the free parking 😂
Wish I had seen this last week. I've since replaced the igniter
Finally I know what that thing is! Next on my list is that pokey thing on caulking guns.
To Pierce the film seal on the tube. Rarely on caulk but often on adhesives such as gripfill.
If you were taking the piss I fell for it and you’re welcome to a good laugh at my expense. 😂
Thank you. I always wondered what that was for. Makes sense. My Hands don't have any hair now because I light mine with a lighter and it burns my hair off everytime lol.
There’s usually a small hole under the left tray for a bbq lighter.
I was today years old when I learned what that thing is for and I’ve been looking at them on grills for 36 years.
That's a very nice feature if you don't have any long matches around.
That is pretty useful information thanks for sharing I never knew nor did I read the instructions lol maybe I would have known 🥴
I’ve always just thought it was to slightly support the gas tank
That was a good one for your parents! They laughed with u/ about that for years! 😂
I learned just this summer that our grill igniter has batteries and that’s the reason we had to hold the ignition button for so long because they very basically out of juice.
FINALLY!!!!! Holy shit, i have been wondering for years!
After so many years of wondering now i finally know why is there for.
Haha my parents use to shout at me when i turned on the interior light at night and never told me why, now that i have my car i finally understood why. 🤣🤣🤣
FYI, you can use a staple remover to open up the match holder loop
I just thought my grill wanted to be a gangster with a chain hanging out his pocket.
I was definitely wondering wtf that was 😂 bought my gas grill this month and was confused what that doohickey was 🤣
Your parents are my kind of people! 😂
You're supposed to light it through the little hole in the side, which is visible when you're lighting the grill from the top.
Reading the manual is informative, but clearly from the comments nobody does lol.
I was today years old when I learned this too 😮
Grill man knows it all
A lot of people don't know that the built in igniter runs off a AA battery too and think it just breaks.
Thanks for the knowledge
lol, I literally just finished putting together by new BBQ & was wondering about that... fn RUclips reads my mind sometimes... crazy.
Don’t you just love those moments of an epiphany!
FYI: if any of your ignitors aren't working, try putting a new battery in it if you haven't already
You can also stuff a paper towel in the hole, light the paper with a lighter and then light the grill
Funny how true it is men dont just read the manual. I read them love a good book also knew this before the video and almost every video like this read men and women it takes a moment to learn.
1) Close grill
2) Set all burners to max
3) Open grill after 5-10 seconds
4) Strike match
5) Chuck that boi
There’s a hole on the side you can put that match through there too, so you don’t have to take the grates off.
It probably would work as a grounding wire too tbh. Just depends if there’s other metal wanting to ground out first
I didn't know this. But it took me about my 19th birthday to know that women had hearts. I thought they breast replaced the heart. I'm studying for the LSAT now
I knew...but I've been servicing gas furnaces for over 25 years. All the old pilot models had match holders.
Not sure how people didnt know what this was for. Ive never used it and never had to but i still knew what it was for
Well i was today years old when i learned what this was 😂
I literally thought it was some broken door chain lol ✌️
Thank you, never knew 💯
I honestly thought I was watching a Jerryrigeverything short until I saw the channel name and icon lol
I remember seeing one of those little gadgets when I was a kid over 50 years ago.We used to light candles.
I’ve been wondering this since forever! lol
If you happen to get “exploded” your s7 inches of aluminum is only going to allow you to see what’s gonna hurt better if you’re closer. Like ripping a bandage off
His parents didn't want him to know it was their roach clip
Quickly breaks down those who looked at the instruction sheet when putting their grill together and those that didn't.
At the beginning of the video here you can also see the hole on the side where you can pass the match and its holder. It's designed for this.
It holds your oil drip Tray in place so it doesn’t slide out easily or as easily.
Sold grills for about 8 years and every customer I had that I pointed it out to had no idea that's what it was for
I thought it was there for some crazy way of wrapping the propane tank to keep it in place when moving the grill. I was 36 years old when i learned this
You’re right, it’s not designed to hold a match. It’s designed to secure the propane tank
I blew myself up when I tried to light my barbecue with a match a few years ago. I burned off almost all the hair on my arms and toasted my eyebrows and eyelashes fairly good and it looked like I had a sunburn for a little while. Needless to say I scarred myself fairly good.
More specifically , it’s so u don’t have remove any grill parts that may impede you from holding match near burner. Instead you can light and then push through the grill to the burners to ignite
Well, there’s also a hole on the left side of the grill. You write a long lighter and then stick it in there. It might grow a lot easier and putting a match on something where it’s gonna blow out in the wind OK
I have that same grill. It has never taken a lightning hit.
I just learned this from the manual of my new Napoleon
I literally threw one of those away yesterday. I knew what it was and since I had never needed it in years, I tossed it. Sometimes RUclips suggestions are a little too on the nose; like I'm being watched and listened to.
Creepy! I'm a fan of fixing a grill that won't light, but that's a reasonable stop gap.
Because you are
😂 cool I haven't had a box of matches in about 20 years
You know, that actually tell you that in the manual. However I knew that long before I ever got my own gas bbq grill.
I used to assemble Grills for Walmart.. Those are for holding a match to light the grill in case to igniter stops working
No it’s not, the chain is a safety link for the propane tank. It’s never safe to use a match to light a pilot.
This is why you should be honest to your kids
Nothing beats being gaslit by your parents telling you that a gas lighter isn’t a gas lighter😅
I haven’t seen this in my grill, but a wooden skewer did the trick.
I wish I knew that before my propane grill blew a ball of fire in my face after the igniter broke. Thankfully I made it out with only a singed eyebrows, lashes, and a good chunk of hair
Older mobile homes came with one to light the pilot light on the furnace.
Sounds like that one guy that reviews screen resistances and breaks them in tears them down
It can also clean the grease out of the burner when an animal trys to take over at the barbecue
