All your videos are brilliant ! What lift and tyres do you have on the d2’s ? I have a 1999 d2 that is a daily driver but looking to use it off-road on the weekends too ! And I’m looking for inspiration in the lift/tyres area.
The gray d2 (Dora) is on 37” tyres in this video, 3” suspension lift and 2” body lift. The green d2 has 35” tyres and a 4” suspension lift. The blue d2 has 32” tyres with a 2” suspension lift. @@Oneeyeben4wduk For the vast majority of lanes or general 4x4ing a 2" lift and 32" wheels are more than sufficient. While opinions may vary, I personally would not want to use a D2 with 35" knobbly tyres and a 4" suspension lift as a daily driver. You might as well commute in Tractor it will be pretty much the same thing. If you go larger wheels and higher lift, you are going to need to spend a lot more money. You will need longer brake hoses and possibly extending the wiring for the ABS sensors to accommodate the flex of the axles. As for tyres, you can go up to 5% bigger than standard without too much issue. 29" is standard on a D2. if you put 32" tyres you are going to notice its a lot slower. If you go even bigger you are going to need minimum of a stage 1 remap to make it drive worth a damn and if yours is an automatic then you can't put more than 380NM safely though that autobox and the standard Td5 Torque converters are not the best either, if its manual go for a stage 2 that means making changes to that exhaust and also, you may need to change the gear ratio of the transfer box too. Normal ratio on the D2 is 1:1.2 so you're going to need to get the transfer box on 1:1.4 like a Defender or even 1:1.6. Its a big job and you have to budget for it as its not cheap to get everything you need for it, and know what needs doing, simply raising the suspension and putting fat tyres on is just the tip of the iceberg really.
