I'm on my 3rd Classic 350 and 3rd Meteor 350 (don't ask!🤣) and have fitted the DNA filter kit to each bike. Yes, they do make a difference to mid range performance/throttle response/overtakes. You're right in that it won't give you sports performance but the gain is noticeable and makes overtaking and uphill rides more comfortable, perhaps a little moreso on the Meteor as the mid range performance is slightly better than the Classic in standard form anyway. Even though the J Series engine is considered fully run in at 1250 miles with a noticeable improvement in performance from a 1000 miles onwards I have found that it's optimum performance isn't felt until its approaching 2000 miles. Great bikes with the great J series engine. Enjoy your videos.🙂👍
Thanks for the honest review Keith, I'll likely keep mine stock, I love it as it is for the back roads. I like that our minds can wonder a little on these bikes, they are peaceful, easy to ride, and encourage enjoying the ride. When I do want more speed for the highway I'm blessed to still have my VTX or Goldwing. Sounds like modifications are much more affordable and easy to install on these little beauties though!
I don't think there's much wrong with stock. As long as you know, what you're getting. We do! Then it almost exceeds expectations. I'm getting the exhaust sorted as we speak, it'll be interesting to see if the two make a difference. It's just really an experiment on my part, especially as the exhausts for free. Otherwise, I almost certainly wouldn't of bothered. Ride safe mate👍
Thanks for the video, great as always 😊. I love my Classic, it’s such a great wee bike. I have fitted both the DNA filter and decat pipe, they make a noticeable difference to throttle response and the ability of the bike to reach and maintain higher end traffic speeds. The Classic isn’t a motorway muncher but at times, they aren’t easy to avoid. I would recommend these mods if only to help to help the bike breathe and provide better throttle response mid rev range.
Thank you Paul for your input, I have yet to de cat it, I don't think any of us buy this bike as an out and out performance machine but as you say if a few simple mods help it to breathe it's got to be worthwhile. Ride safe mate 👍
I've not fitted the free flow exhaust although I have fitted a better one from Hitchcocks. I have fitted the DNA filter and cap and it definitely made a difference. Well worth it!
Great video and such a beautiful bike, not to forget those lovely dogs of Yours! But the DNA air filter: I fitted it last autumn and have been pleased with it. Sure, as You mentioned, it makes the induction noise a bit louder. On the other hand the bike runs smoother, climbs uphills easier and responds to throttle faster. P.S. it was interesting to hear the story of a young Ju-88 flier and his mother.
Thankyou, I agree. My dogs are always about " helping" I think it's worth having, it helps it breathe a bit better. Have a look on my videos if you were interested in the Junkers crash, I say a bit more on that when I was riding my Interceptor a few years ago. Ride safe mate👍

Another good video, it's amazing how quiet the roads where you live are. When I visit my daughter using my Freelander it's a job to get into 4th gear never mind 6th, but around the Bournemouth and New Forest area it's very populated and in the summer gets lots of tourists. Thank you for an honest report on the air filter, like most people we strive for a little more power when using our bikes, unless of course you are riding a plastic rocket which most of us have when younger. Loved the WW2 history bit as well.👍
That's great, I'm glad that you found some interest in it I did pop a link in the description to the "full fat" version of what happened up there, you might enjoy having a look. Thanks for commenting Ride safe👍
YES, drop the CAT! the difference then is clear, no top speed gain because J series motors are limited at the ECU, but pickup all over the range, smoother running, more steam uphill are all the benefits. I made up my decat link shorter than the cat pipe and kept OE silencer, it's just a little louder, and the small bother making it fit also improves looks, as it's about 10 inches shorter. Cheers, DINO.
A very relaxing video this morning! Thanks for that. You explain things well, and give a very balanced view on the DNA filter. As you say it isn't cheap but together with the free flow exhaust it might be a thought for my RE classic 350. I'll wait until she fully run in, then consider it. Looking forward to your exhaust assessment. Thanks again. Lovely story about the plane crash in the Roaches. Will look out for the rhododendron next time we are up there. Know the area quite well. 👍
Hi Peter. Have a look at the other video, on my Interceptor. It was a few years ago but is a bit more in depth. ruclips.net/video/S_6Ag5dskes/видео.htmlsi=FQWL0nu-ywDjkn2L Ride safe👍
Another enjoyable vid with easy, "laid back"commentary. The bomber crash story makes one think of the untold thousands of similar stories from both sides.... Back in the 70's we used to flip our car air intake covers over, as they were domed shaped, to provide better intake. While induction sounded great, it likely provided minimal performance enhancement 🤣 So as you mentioned, it's logical that more air in requires more air out. I am curious to see if the new exhaust provides a bump stop for the centre stand, if indeed it is necessary on the Classic as it is on my Fiireball. Cheers
Hi Mate, thanks for your kind comments and support. I put a link on the description to a link to the a vid I did a few years ago when I was on my Interceptor, have a look if it's of interest. My bike goes in tomorrow for the week to let the exhaust company do there stuff, they will try various silencers, take there photos and I'll get it back Friday/ Saturday. It'll be interesting to see what they come up with. I'll just leave it with them.
I think the bike smooths out the more miles you do, so for me happy to leave my bike standard. Ian Hughes fitted the DNA filter but after a while removed it again due to the increased induction roar ! As an aside your camera fitting caused a very distracting jumping while watching the playback that I have not seen on your videos before 😊
Thanks Peter I agree, I'm not having a good time with it. There's no external mic at the moment and I think I must have had the stabilization turned off. Must do better, ride safe mate.👍
Nice video, lovely dogs 🐕, I've fitted Hitchcocks own air intake but left the standard filter in , the bike definitely breathes easier and picks up better ,👍 Cheers Mel
All makes a difference fitting a free flow air filter, and even the free flow exhaust, it makes it breath better with sharper throttle response . The biggest upgrade is the high lift cam from Hitchcock's it makes another 5 BHP. The 350 is restricted to 70 MPH so without a new ECU or having it remapped its not going to go much faster, also I was told the ECU is wired in to the abs sensor. dont no why Royal Enfield restricted this bike to 70 MPH. a 350CC motorbike should at least reach 80 to 85 Mph. l use run a Honda 250cc Superdream with 25bhp and that reached about 85mph.
I agree, don't know why it's restricted. If the Honda has 25 bhp that's quite a bit more than our little put puts 🤔. So all we can do is help it to breathe, and make the midrange a bit better. Thanks for your input, it's appreciated. Ride safe mate 👍
Hi Andrew, a good point. I reckon they charge "what they can get away with". They can get more money in The West I guess, plus there is always import duties, taxes, transportation and other additional expenses that push the prices up. Thanks for your input and ride Safe mate 👍
