    My favorite State Park spots are any that offer primitive camping and lots of backpacking trails. Some of my favorite canoe trails The Suwanee River from the Okefenokee Swamp to the Gulf of Mexico. . The St Marys river out of the Okefenokee and to the Atlantic Ocean is interesting , Florida is on one side and Georgia on the other. Plus don't forget the 100 mile canoe route threw the Everglades ( 10,000 Islands area ) , both the outside route and the inside route. I could list a lot more canoe trails where you paddle till you see a good spot to camp for the night

    Having the pleasure of staying at three of the Parks on your list, I most hardily agree. The only downside not mentioning about DeSoto is the fact all the beach sites are off limits to dog owners, with about 1/3 as many in an area on the back side and across from the water front sites, but still very nice! Lake Luisa is very nice, with Bahia Honda at the top. Of unlisted Honorable mention IMHO, is Tamoka State Park just north of Ormand Beach. That is a very nice State Park, like all Florida State Parks, less expensive with decent amenities, lacking only WIFI and Pools, compared to private Parks.

    St Joe Peninsula State Park is my all time favorite RV destination in Florida. Currently, it is not available due to the damages received from Hurricane Michael in 2018, but hopefully it will be up and running very soon. The close proximity to the gulf is what has drawn me back time after time. You can easily walk to the beach from your campsite. Most campsites we have found require you to get all your beach gear together and load it in your vehicle and drive to the beach. Not that way at St Joe Pen State Park. You just walk across the street at the campsite and down the ramp over the sand dunes and you're there. I love it and can't wait til it reopens.

    My family was lucky enough to stay at site 16 at Bahia Honda 4 years ago for 3 days. It is difficult to get any site at that park. It took me 2 years of constantly looking at their reservation system. There just happened to be a cancellation and I was lucky to get it. I had to book it almost a year early. The problem here is Snowbirds book these sights somehow a year or more in advance regularly. every year, these sights book out. Floridians cannot ever seem to get one... Great place to stay by the way. A lot of tarpon run that channel 40 ft. off the shoreline and sharks like to chase them, so if you plan on swimming in front of that sight be careful. Additionally, all the sights in that culdesac are great views as well.

      @@nickyl9040 I grew up on the Bradenton river swimming in alligator occupied waters most of my youth. In all those years I never seen a single gator attack. There were a few that weren't afraid of humans because they were fed by them every day. But if you know their behavior you can swim in the water with gators sunning themselves on the other side. At least that was my experience & back then it was illegal to hunt them. Everything can kill you if you're not paying attention or being stupid.

    That's very interesting, since the very site we camped at in Ft DeSoto in 2017, on our first and so far only time staying there, was site 203.
    Apart from those pesky sand flies that come out in force at dusk, it was every bit a postcard perfect site.
    I remember it having the perfect set of trees for stringing up the hammock at just the right angle to the water
    I even lied the other way in bed, just so I could gaze out the rear window at that view well into the night (I'd made certain I purchased an RV with a rear window for precisely that purpose)
    I only wish I could have stayed longer...and of course, brought bug repellant.
    Though I will next time, as I do plan to return there again...and with kayak in tow.

    Instead of Bahia that was destroyed, I would suggest John Pennicamp coral reef state park in key largo. Though being small that it would take forever to get a site, it is the best the keys on public land has to offer. I do like the one koa down there but I do not know the cost. I normally reserve in the Florida springs on state properties as with the 50% discount the cost is from $9 to $12 (most state parks), $15 (rainbow river) or $18 dollars a night in the keys.

The private rv parks like Coral Sands in this episode you would need to check with as I have not seen tents there and we have camped there 4 different times. At these parks... Do they allow you to swim directly off of the site or can u only get in the water at a designated swim area?

      Bahia Honda for sure, the lakefront no. At Fort DeSoto there isa sea wall, so it would be difficult there!

      Most do not have full hook ups, but site 18 at Coral Sands RV resort does!!

    My favorite spot at Fort Desoto isn't a campsite. It's just an area with nothing to see but the Skyway Bridge

    What about Cayo Costa state park? Or the Dry tortugas? Or Huguenot? I respectfully disagree with this list. Fyi, Fort desoto is very overcrowded.

    •  5 лет назад +1

      The list is meant for RVs. You need a boat to get to Cayo Costa...unless your RV floats. We get there by kayak and do primitive camping. Cayo Costa is horrific. No-see-ums, raccoons, rats (YES, big ones), no bathrooms, and the stench of garbage. A few cabins are available, but they are run down and rotting. Hurricane Irma should have done more.

    • @street1205
      @street1205 5 лет назад

      @ -thanks for your unwelcomed opinion. I will respectfully disagree and say Cayo Costa is my absolute favorite beach in Florida. But you are right, an r.v would be pretty hard to get on the island. I won't give a reply to your rude reasoning because I know your unneccessary rudeness was only to provoke and trigger. You probably haven't even been to the other 2 beaches I mentioned. Both very cool though. Have a good day.

      @street1205 5 лет назад

      @ - wow. Weak come back sir. I love putting a cap on people like you. Just rude for no reason. I also feel bad that you have so much inner conflict that you took a comment that was respectful and real, and just had to write back with unfounded rudeness. Hope you find your happy! You should go to any beach and just chill out 🤙🤙

    How much does it cost to camp at each of these places?

    • @CampTravelExplore
      @CampTravelExplore  4 года назад +1

      Hi there, most of them fall in the 25-35 price category because of being in state or county parks. One exception is the beachfront site at Coral Sands, it can be 80-120 based on the time of year. Hope this helps, happy camping!

      They do allow tents, you are far enough from the lakeside that gators shouldn't be any issue. Thanks for watching!

    You might give the price range, whether America the beautiful pass is honored, cell phone service from all the major carriers is acceptable, RV age restrictions, nearby groceries available? Those questions and more answers will help you grow your channel ! GPS COORDINATES WOULD HELP TOO!

      America the Beautiful pass isn't going to work for any of these. It's only accepted at National Parks, Corps of Engineers campgrounds, National Seashores and other national level facilities.

    Camping Tom & Fam,
    Thanks for all the informative videos! I’m hoping you can answer a question for me... So, on the Florida State Parks website they talk about the park (family) pass $120 per year. However, it does not give a discount for camping if you get the pass, but if you don’t get the pass do you have to pay for the park entrance fee in addition to the camping fee or do they wave that entry fee if you’re camping? Thanks! DC

      Hey Randy, Its hard to put prices in videos only because they change over time. I will say that the state parks and county parks we feature tend to be 30.00 or less a night. In this video, we show a favorite spot at Coral Sands in Ormond Beach, we have camped on the beachfront sites for 80.00 but the run over a 100.00 at certain times of the year, bike week etc. I hope this helps. I may start putting that info in the descriptions though since that can be updated for changes. Thank You for your feedback, it is always helpful!
