NEW MATERIALS FOR NIBS !! YES! As a physicist, that appeals hugely to me ! Makes all sense! Gold does not really add much. Only bling. And a very good polished steel nib can be better.
:D big yes gold is nice and all - but its not the very best, I wouldn't ditch gold entirely for nibs or for the pens I want and their nibs / but I think im willing to check out what else can be achieved with other materials as well :D
You guys seem to have a good creative and thouroughly efficient fun relationship. All the innovation plans sound like music to my ears 🎼 Bring them on 🎉
:D Hello my dear - happy new year / we have a lot of things that each of us is good at and those come at almost opposite ends so this way we think that we cover most of the things for gravitas and not only. Let the show begin :))
Thank you - for us is a different format, a more leisure and relax content which after spending so much time recording, I think is safe to say it was enjoyable
:D its fun to take these questions and to just go answer these as they come - I think this could be something that we will have more of in the coming time
It’s only the very beginning of 2025 but this particular video was so entertaining and informative I have a feeling it could be nominated for video of the year! This is like listening to an incredibly well produced podcast along with visually seeing all the possible upcoming eye candy to be released! Well done and of course it’d be great to see Ben and Emy together answering more questions and revealing more novelties in the future! Next Q%A - more info on the Kraken and the Hummingbird! And of course, looking forward for small batches of -color Crystal Ti, Murcuti, Crystal Mircuti and Zircuti (hopefully the two different version mentioned 1) Oxidized Zirconium with non-affected Ti vs Acid affected Ti with no affect of the Zirconium….2 different looks!)…. Dinkeys!
Thank you Jeff :D it is a pleasure for us to have these videos recorded and shared with you all :D What we have coming is so much interesting and captivating - stay tuned :D many interesting this like new pens / filling systems / materials and more of everything - noted all the questions for the next Q&A
46:11 I had that on the Pineider Mystery Filler... was an easy fix on that one, just had to unscrew the body a few turns back, and feed a few turns in, as they butt against each other internally (i think there's an o-ring in between too, from what i recollect).
The original Pocket Carbon came with a treatment for the cap - now the machines are using a different program so they have to adapt and change on the next batches of this pen to have it like the others. Would you like to see Gravitas not inovate because of this reason ?
Ooh investment casting now you're talking my language! Also will the legacy nib be available with two line widths (one for forward writing and one for reverse writing similar to the utility nib by Monty Winnfield.
I looked up about the material used to make springs in automatic watches and I could not find the alloy mentioned in the video, but I find Elinvar written about and it is apparently “characterized by elasticity and resistance to fatigue and corrosion”, maybe it would be a good material from which to make nibs?
:D this is where if we're lucky - ben will intervene and explain more, I cant wait to see what limits of the industry we can push with the use of materials that are new to us and the industry standards :D

If pens do indeed go up on average 30% I think we will see a shift away from the more established brands. If Pilot for example goes for another increase after increasing by 20% in October then I really think their sales will collapse. The value proposition of their models will no longer be there. It explains why there have been other retailers like The Writing Desk deciding to close up recently.
We don’t know of pilot yet but I can insert the quote on quote communication from Sailor - “We would like to inform you that starting with orders placed from January 1, 2025, a revision of our pricing will come into effect. Over the past four years, the price of gold - a key raw material in the manufacturing of several of our products - has doubled. This increase will result in an overall cost rise of approximately 30% for our products in Japan in 2025.” - we think this will at one point rather soon be like a snowball effect for other companies as well since the gold cost is universally the same, some will choose to do it gradually and possible under the cost of a retailer like Sailor - we are waiting for these things to develop and to observe the effect. Pens like a pro gear slim / regular and 1911s and 1911L would be exiting a long time sweet spot where at 150~ to 350 a gold nib was available

@@pen.venture the same Sailor that raised their prices last September 2024 and in August 2022. Hopefully the fact they use 21kt gold and the weakness of the Yen means they raise is exaggerated for them compared to other manufacturers. That said if one raises the others will raise as much as they can, partially from necessity and partly greed.

Love your videos with Ben! The innovation you guys are working on is super exciting!

Great vid and very informative. Keep on making vids together!!!
:D its fun to take these questions and to just go answer these as they come - I think this could be something that we will have more of in the coming time
Educating, informative and exciting - thank you!
Special thanks for answering my questions thoroughly!
:D hehe - I hope we did justice
I am SUPER excited to see Ben's holographic pens in the (hopefully) near future!
Ooo pocket piston, finally!
:D big fan of this waiting and waiting for years (*me) :))

:D yup it has an oring
8:51 im a bit disappointed i got the original. Same for the zirc quark. Oh well. Makes me wary of new releases that might be upgraded in a year or so

@@pen.ventureno, I’ll just not buy pens at launch anymore, too likely the pen will be upgraded later
5:22 it's violet :P
"blurple"
:))) -- its half half
Zircuti is the same thing as black timascus, the term "black timascus" is used (for some reason) in the knife world for scales and clips sometimes.
:D noted - we need to see more of these in stock so we get familiar with the metals and finishes

Time will tell - the next 1-2 years will bring major changes in the choice of the metals/techniques for nibs, it will be happening sooner than later
