This is really great stuff! Albert Collinswith his unique touch and voice and then Gary Moore, the best electric guitar player ever lived; what a joy to watch them having fun. Gary, ready to explode, but two blues players doing what they like most!
It happens sometimes that the apprentice excels the master and this is a tribute to the master, not a diminushment of him, Gary Moore has shown nothing but due respect to each and evryone of them ,of whom we need not mention.
Good guitar playing is like listening to a pretty woman talk. No one wants to sit and listen to her go on and on, and on, nonstop. But when she takes her time, weighs her words, speaks less, but says more, it means a lot and you're captivated by her every word...
Actually his guitar cord was like 150' long! He played a joint here and went all up and down the isles, then out in the street, all over-- what a showman. Glad I was able to see him alive.
Gary Moore is a legendary player in his own right as is Albert Collins, he doesn't just always shred, his playing is technically great as is the mast of the telecaster.... Great performance!!
Its funny how a song written about such bad feelings and desperation, "Im gonna put everybody down who once make a fool of me" "I got a cold cold feeling" can make you feel so good? That's why I love the blues. I've watched this video 1000 times and NEVER get tired of it.
In this houses humble opinion, the fact that the likes of Albert King, Albert Collins and BB King shared the state with Gary speaks volumes. I don't know why anyone would nit-pick - unless you're a better musician and none of us know about it.
Perfectly worded. I couldn't agree with you more. Besides, has anyone ever heard Gary's song Texas Blues. The entire song is just paying tribute to other guitarists.
I notice some comments below criticizing GM saying he was playing too fast too loud or whatnot, but I couldn't disagree more. He plays his solo with real passion and pretty much follows the several thematic motifs that AC uses throughout the piece! Listen folks, quit talking about the notes that aren't played and listen to those that are. GM's solo here is powerful, tasteful and respectful of AC - no showboating!
Gary Moore plays the blues as he wants... he's a good and ranked rock guitarist in the world. But HERE, the Master of blues is really Albert Collins. Few or lots of notes, emotion, soul, soft or wild solos : it's a wonderful lesson of blues.
I guess the only modern Blues guitar player worth listening to EVER, was Stevie Ray Vaughan. It was always amazing to see how much he respected the older players on stage. There was never a time when either one of the King's told him to 'tame down' his playing, because he was that special and that much in context. Put him on stage alone though and he would blow everyone away. God, I miss you SRV. Shine on. p.s. Not to mention Rory Gallagher.
Yeah! Good grief! What a sound! This is a magically Blues dans toute sa portée grandiose, no doubt at all! Marvelously played by Albert and Gary! Albert got this Blues voice that i can't forget for ever and ever. You touch my soul men with this damn Blues and I can't get out of it this afternoon... Best Blues regards
Well - thats the blues. Intensity, soul ... Im wondering, how many marvellous concerts been at Montreux. Hope, the founder there, Mr. Nobs have many years more to make such great festivals.
+robert rohde - Totally agree. That was Gary's style. He was in his element when he was playing fast. A burst of fast playing gave this cut an originality that you don't see very often in the slow blues. Nothing wrong with shakin' it up a bit every not and then.
He actually does the impossible and makes Gary look bad on this! Unbelievable! And this was one of Gary's best concerts. Messiah still leaves my jaw on the floor. Please don't start flaming because I'm not comparing the two and I'm sure GM would be the first to agree with me. Two legends on one stage.
@jereuter01, I totally agree. Gary wasn't trying to "One-up" Albert at all, he merely took the vibe he was feeling through Alberts leading of the song, and poured all of his passion and feeling into his solo. My God that moved me! I had to rewind back to 4:40 to repeat that smokin' solo several times. They both are gone now, and the world is a little darker and drab because of it. R.I.P. both Albert Collins, and Gary Moore.
Man!!! I can't believe what I hear that Gary Moore is underated. How the hell is that possible and for him not be on Rolling Stones list of top 100 guitar players.,, Unbelievable not the way this guy plays man
Gary Moore has paid nothing but due respect to the Blues Greats. His tribute to Albert King and Collins shows in his playing. And,like any individual,he has to play it his way......Keep the Blues alive.
Albert never gave a performance without reaching deep and meaning every word and note he said. He's gotta Buddha like demeanor and spark to his eyes. The man was channeling some serious vibes.
Albert Collins,Albert King,BB King and numerous other blues guitar legends think that Gary Moore is at the top of the mountain as a player!...I trust their opinion because I hear what they are talking about!!!
Gary moore is amazing!! people like gary moore and SRV made blues even more interesting, Gary moore hits a note and goes straight through your heart, he is great !!!
It is so powerful, I can watch the video without sound, without headphones-not even knowing the performance piece, on a 3rd party computer and be tranfixed by this man and his musical originality. Priceless. Thanks for the submission.
your totally right man, nice insight, i just meant that he doesn't seem to fit in exactly, or something, i do like Gary Moore and think he is good, but your right no one can out play the masters.
As Lester P. of Waukesha once said "I learned a long time ago that one note can go a long way if it's the right one, and it will probably whip the guy with 20 notes." p.s. about Rory... yes Lets get him in the R&RHOF
This piece is classic; It kicks your ass all the way through; neither player tried to show boat one another. Every thing they did blended to perfection! RIP to both these giants.
i dont know what 2 say bout that preformance. the emotion that Collins puts out is amazing. its very bluesy. then gary moore. holy crap. i think if he toned the distortion down more it wouldn't have sounded out of place. dont get me wrong it was incredible. but he was shredding more than he was blues playing.
I agree with you that it really isn't necessary....all the fast notes. But...I don't think he's blowing the legends out of the water. It's one of his trademarks. They knew what they were getting into with Gary Moore and still played and recorded with him. In my opinion Albert Collins, BB King and Albert King all blow Gary Moore away in their various performances together :)
The Albert's King and Collins both tried to explain to Gary sometimes less is more. He never grasped the concept. Don't get me wrong Moore is an incredable player, but this music comes from the heart not from the shreding. Iceman brilliant as always. RIP Guys.
No one could make the guitar talk like Mr. Collins. Like literally talk.
100% agree
Except frampton!

Gary Moore struck fear within other Artist of how amazing his skills were. But seems like such a stand up guy they all had to befriend him. Quality
Collins' singing vibrato is a singular and beautiful thing.
Gary owns that mountain.
Albert Collins was so creative and just pure badass of a Blues guirtarist Ever..

In this houses humble opinion, the fact that the likes of Albert King, Albert Collins and BB King shared the state with Gary speaks volumes. I don't know why anyone would nit-pick - unless you're a better musician and none of us know about it.
allsome just fantasick this is some of the best music

The end is awesome!
It just don't get no better than these two and you can tell Gary loves sharing the stage with Albert ...
Incredible
this is some dirty, raw, and nasty blues playin right here
Gary Moore plays the blues as he wants... he's a good and ranked rock guitarist in the world. But HERE, the Master of blues is really Albert Collins.

If this doesn't give you the chills you aren't living the blues!....Powerful!!!
Stop complaining and be grateful you had a chance to see this performance. Collins is gone forever. Have a little respect.
Yeah! Good grief!
What a sound!
This is a magically Blues dans toute sa portée grandiose, no doubt at all!
Marvelously played by Albert and Gary!
Albert got this Blues voice that i can't forget for ever and ever.

Albert Collins was a genius. He actually made his guitar say words. He will be be greatly missed by many.Gone but never forgotten!
Gary didn't over do it at all. Very respectful. What he added was awesome.
+robert rohde - Totally agree. That was Gary's style. He was in his element when he was playing fast. A burst of fast playing gave this cut an originality that you don't see very often in the slow blues. Nothing wrong with shakin' it up a bit every not and then.
Absolutely
F'N GREAT!!!

It seems like all the greats have passed on- sad.
Gary Moore has paid nothing but due respect to the Blues Greats. His tribute to Albert King and Collins shows in his playing. And,like any individual,he has to play it his way......Keep the Blues alive.
Thirty-one years later, this still gives me goosebumps.
same ! that’s why a thousand guitarists will tell you AC is a huge influence
God bless the Master of the Telecaster. No one ever played the blues sweeter than he did.
Albert never gave a performance without reaching deep and meaning every word and note he said. He's gotta Buddha like demeanor and spark to his eyes. The man was channeling some serious vibes.
So worm feeling..
Mr.Collins teaches the silence.
Turn up the volume
I see people putting people down here. That's not what music is about. Let's see what 'you" got.

Brilliant! I never ceased to be amazed by how much emotion the great bluesmen can pack into a single note.
This was Epic ...... I was wowed, Captivating.
Only one word describes this performance, AWESOME!!!
I agree with you that it really isn't necessary....all the fast notes. But...I don't think he's blowing the legends out of the water. It's one of his trademarks.
