What I dislike is how these companies declare your value of the card after receiving your card, then the company say you underestimated the valued on your card, then upcharge. Ok, cool. How about these companies start giving you back money or credit when you send in a card and you get a lower grade than expected. For example I have all the tools needed before sending my card to the company and estimate what grade I should get. Say I estimate this card a 9, but when I get my card back, it's a 7 or 8. Well, that company just rake me on both my card & grade. I think an explanation should be given as to why the card graded low. That's my vent for the companies. Great video Chris
You need a update on the beckett grading policies. What a mess thats going to be so disappointed in beckett because I have so many min gems which will become mint + now.
Always great videos, Chris ! One thing that I would like to see the next time you do one of these videos is a comparison of the value of a few cards in the same grades across the companies.
Thanks for the information / presentation as usual. Beckett/BGS just announced a change which has everyone scratching their heads - know is was post production of the video. Keep it going and enjoy!
Sent in PSA 97 bulk ($19)card order and it was recieved/checked in at PSA on 2/24/2023. Was back at my door 03/23/2023. PSA has really turned things around!!
No April specials at PSA. $19 is too high of a bulk price for me to restart my Collector's Club membership. Have to get to $15 or under for me to re-engage. Am preparing a small starter bulk order for CSG as I think the timing is right for it. And their slabs are so attractive that I feel in the long term they will gain traction across the board.
Chris, would be cool to see a video with your input on BGS' new grading scale, specifically how it pertains to a lot of previously "Gem Mint" cards in BGS slabs, now being considered "Mint +".
I’ve been a member of psa for about a year now and my last submission was 31 total days door to door. Also have another submitted now that’s at 3 of 8 that I sent in last week.
BGS will be making changes to their grading scale soon. Some 9.5 will be considered 10s and some won’t. I’d like to see your take on it. Thanks for the content as always.
I use PSA due to higher resale and slimmer slabs. Space becomes an issue when you have a lot of cards. But for autographs I prefer BGS holders with the subs and auto grade.
being grading cards with CSG through COMC. Really astonishing service with few clicks needed. A huge bravo to COMC and hopefully they will bring SGC and Beckett in the near future. Would be great if you make a video about it. Thanks a lot for your valuable inputs
That pie chart you showed for graded cards in Feb 2023 is in stark contrast of the RUclips SGC narrative. It goes to my point that there are a lot of RUclipsrs who continue to hype up SGC and the data isn’t backing that up (as you show). I always believed that because of the PSA backup during Covid, a lot of RUclips flippers got their cards graded by SGC because of the faster turnaround times. So naturally they had to pump SGC up because they had a stake now in reselling them. Great informative video!
SGC hasn't gone all out for volume. Peter has stated that they put in a lot of work grading each card, whereas you can see that PSA is in essence a grading factory. You can tell by the quality of the work. The majority of observers will admit that SGC has more consistent grading, and that is to be expected because PSA had to hire a bunch of new graders when the hobby exploded because everyone was flipping and PSA (and BGS to a lesser degree) was the place to flip modern. As long as people in general don't demand better service, PSA has no incentive to give it to them.
@@blueodum I don’t dispute your point on quality between PSA vs SGC as you’re spot on. But that’s not what I’m talking about, as the narrative coming from RUclipsrs is that SGC is closing the gap with PSA in terms resell and market share and that’s just not true. The height of this narrative was last year when PSA was still backed up, and that led my suspicions. The RUclipsrs that were pushing SGC had a lot of cards being graded because of the quicker turnaround. I can’t tell you how many videos in late 2021/early 2022 that really pumped up SGC. They got my attention as I started to believe that maybe SGC was closing the gap? But every so often, you get a RUclipsr like Chris and he does a video like this that dispels that myth. Another reason I was always suspicious was none of the RUclipsrs even mentioned BGS (in fact they would shit on BGS) and that told me they were new to the hobby while hyping SGC. If they had been around, they would have some BGS slabs because they were on par with PSA at one time.
@@chrisolivo6591 I'm not new to the hobby, but 95% of what I collect is vintage and BVG is a joke. I have more confidence in a newcomer to sports vintage like CSG than BVG. Chris's chart is all about volume, which means mostly flippers of modern selling to speculators. In baseball vintage, the gap between SGC and PSA in resale value is not that great and has been stable for many years. I attribute the gap to those collectors who are involved in the PSA set registry. To me it makes sense because vintage buyers are the most sophisticated segment of the market and eye-appeal means more than grade to most of them.
@@blueodum The RUclipsrs that I’m talking about that pushed SGC were ultra modern flippers. As you said, most flippers aren’t attached to vintage so that’s a whole different market (a more steady market because eye appeal triumphs the grade).
Its unfortunate but the bottom line is PSA controlls the market due to pop count and resale value. As a result of that dealers and collectors alike will continue submitting there even if the grading is inconsistent. If you submit to one of the other three, you are knowingly reducing the value of your graded card, and most people can't justify doing that. Personally i am a pure collector, and i dont like anything about PSA, so i only use the other three.
I have 60 cards out to CSG rite now. I should get them back in 22 business day's. I really like their service. The slabs are nice looking and fit good. They have been around doing money grading for years, they have the sole contract with the Smithsonian museum to grade historical money and such. They're professional and been around for awhile. I like em.
PSA is inconsistent, bordering on random at times and clearly manages pop counts of high valued cards. I re-entered the card market in Oct 22’ and decided to use SGC because I read they were the best at assigning the correct grade. What I learned is nobody gives AF about anything but PSA (in modern cards at least).
I have a theory I would like opinions on. From my experience, it seems SGC grades harder than PSA, especially in vintage. It may be the .5 grades in SGC, but I see clear differences in a PSA vs SGC.

I just did a value bulk submission with PSA and it was back to me in about a month. The PSA/DNA dual grading of cards is still in the “research” phase though. So they are really churning out the orders compared to a year ago

My LCS is a PSA group submitter so they make it so easy. $21/card they handle all the shipping, provide updates, and don’t collect money until you pick up the cards. Been a steady 6 week turnaround from when I drop off to pick up
PWCC has a deal on raw card submission, handling the grading process through several of the top graders. My personal favorite is SGC. CSG is part of a company with extensive coin, currency and comic grading experience, so I expect their share to increase. It's clear that the prices realized for CSG still lags far behind.
The interesting thing is, if you gave me the option of a PSA 10 vs a BGS Black Label for the same card then I would take the Black Label all day and twice on Sunday. The price difference seems to be a lot higher on a BGS black label due to the fact it is hard to get.
I Personally like BGS because of the Sub-grades so when I get my cards back I can see and review what they see and maybe crack it out and send to PSA if the BGS Grade is a 9 or 9.5 that PSA could give the card a 10 talking about Surface which can be cleaned, but PSA $19 a card and they put a minimum of 20 well that's something I can't afford, it should be $19 with no minimums, Personally speaking, Thanks Chris for your input.
Great video, but i did notice the csg data was based on cgc pop only as csg pop was down for multiple weeks for maintenance. Also does psa data include non sports as well, they also grade Pokémon. Gap might not be as big as implied, but still significant. Love your content.
I knew PSA was ahead of the rest, but didn't know the discrepancy was that, significant! Wow...SGC and some of the others will hopefully close the gaps over the coming years.
Chris, first of all thank you for your content. one quick observation, I'm surprised you don't touch on the shipping cost with any company. I was looking into SGC and found out they charged shipping.
@@collectorinvestordealer right it's just ignorance on my end as someone that has never sent anything in and didn't factor that into the cost. I know it seems obvious and standard to those that constantly send cards in but in today's age of Amazon, I think a lot of people would assume the price includes shipping. it was a deal breaker for me personally and I still haven't sent cards in. the shipping pushed me outside of my budget. thanks again Chris love your content it's a great channel!
Just got the 411 on becketts new system. It's gonna screw many buyers/ collectors. With the majority of the 9.5 gem grades going to 9.5 mint plus, the market will change. Might need to do this again in a few months🤦
I’m still in the “learn how to accurately grade yourself “. Then buy raw cards that meet your condition requirements. No $ spent…. I BUY slabbed cards, but generally for less $ than the cost of the grading…
From personal experience I can say that SGC's customer service is excellent. I've emailed them when I ve had an issue and their response was very quick. I think they are poised to really gain market share if PSA makes any misteps. You don't run into very many unhappy SGC customers.
It’s interesting how you see so many people complain about a PSA grade and not knowing the “why” but BGS with subgrades that tell you the “why” still lags so far behind. Now you throw in the BGS Gem Mint 10 change and so many former 9.5 GM dropping to Mint+ how will that hurt them as well.
SGC is the best - after all there is a reason the most expensive card on the planet ('52 Mantle SGC 9.5) is in a SGC slab so their legacy, I think, is cemented.
not knocking SGC or any other company with this comment , here's the simple bottom line though .. PSA slabs bring more value on the market .. I can have the same exact card in a SGC , and a PSA , and ill list that PSA for more. Further . I wont buy anything graded that's not PSA either .. I've talked to multiple shop owners other not quite brick and mortar dealers like myself , and there's a consensus.. everything else aside . PSA is the king , they are worth more , and people on the market will pay more for a PSA graded card then something from the others .. Until that changes "which I don't see any time soon" PSA will still be king of value on the market .
I just wonder if CSG will go they way of global. I remember 20 years ago Gai was the rage. Now you can't give their cards away. I'm referring to vintage, I don't know about modern
I’ve tried all of them and PSA has the worst customer service as they will never admit to mistakes and just I feel like they dont care as they do get the most cards graded….I really like CSG and I truly believe that they will make their mark at some time slabs are the best and turnaround time is important …I just flat out don’t like it use Beckett their customer support is awful…I never received an email that my cards arrived or were being graded over 100 days later was my first email that they were being shipped…I use SGC for vintage and will support what they do …the new CEO is awesome and I really think overtime they will dent into PSA…for me I will only use CSG and SGC both have very good customer service and turnaround time
CSG goes down to $10.80 bulk with Elite membership. I don't like that CSG has a $2 fee for autos and $5 for a thick holder. CSG is my favorite for a collector. 2nd best turnaround time, best pricing, best slab, and they have a registry. Just disappointed that they are having issues now with their system upgrades which is causing some serious issues.
Of course as you have a state of grading video schedule to drop something changes in the grading dynamic of course I'm taking about bgs's revised grading scale. Honestly I don't think it will have much of an effect, a bgs 9.5 will still sell between a psa 9 & 10, but I believe the new bgs 10 which before was a true gem+ will now sell on par with a psa 10.
While I prefer SGC, I feel PSA is usually the best option because the resale is clearly higher. I also started working with the set registry which adds to the collecting challenge with PSA.
CSG is becoming popular with the UD-Epack community. Any card u pull on epack can be easily transferred to comc and sent to CSG for grading. Guess they recently agreed on a partnership.I'm expecting a 3card submission I did with csg through comc on cards I pulled from epack. Its gonna be lit
Hopefully SGC takes the top spot for the good of the hobby. IMO, PSA is in this position because they've been around awhile and had (from what I remember) the lowest prices during the start of the boom (which then pushed up its value because that's what the market preferred). SGC has arguably the best grading scale, best customer service, and a great looking slab.
@@123mrtippmann well that's not great but I promise you psa damages and has also been know to lose high value cards. The difference is sgc takes care of their customers and psa will try to blame the customer. Good luck
I really like and trust CSG. I like the slabs and I don’t question their grades. I really think they are fair. I just don’t trust PSA. Too many questions about who they are really grading for.
When I re-entered the hobby in 2017 all the collectors said BGS was tougher than PSA even though the stats say otherwise, I ignored them and used PSA. I would've lost a lot of money if I had gone with BGS. Now these same people swear by SGC but I see numerous 9.5s with serious corner flaws. I think 9.5s are a weakness because I can prove these companies aren't more consistent than PSA by looking at numerous cards in 9.5 slabs that are clearly nowhere close to that grade quality. Maybe BGS introducing a 10 will fix that because right now eye balls are their biggest problem.
I do want to point out one thing that most here are missing. Lol at the chart again. By the numbers month over month psa has flatlined, while the rest saw % growth of 5 to 10% month over month. That's usually the first step into market share changing. We can be confident in saying none have any of the issues that were present during the pandemic. So these are the numbers with no asterisks. Psa has been dominant for so long with many still having that opinion that they are the best. You are seeing growth in market value from cgs and even csg to an extent. There are also cases were a sgc 10 has outsold a psa 10 in modern. Let's do this same comparison in 5 years, and I can almost guarantee that these won't be as lopsided
Dealers and collectors have allowed PSA to grow into a giant monster. So of the grades they give cards are ridiculous; there present behavior has the FBI looking at them.
There's no collectors. Collectors don't care about psa or grading especially modern. Investors, flippers, manipulators, scammers that's who cares about psa.
@@KingKuba1313 Your comment about collectors I find interesting. Of course there are some collectors who like their cards graded (I’m not one of them) but what % of those who keep the majority of their cards buy graded cards? What’s your guess?
@@KingKuba1313 I just collect and I care about grading. Especially since I'm going to hand my collection down to my daughter who most likely will never care about my collection or the names that are in it. I hope that she can sell them in 20+ years for a massive amount of money.
My experience is that CSG cards sell for basically nothing. They might be 4th in amount of slabs, but they are not 4th in resale value. Smaller companies slabs routinely sell for more than csg slabs.
Pristine auction I used to buy from. They grade cards too. They are off so bad, on there grading. And selling on there own platform. BGGC. There are 10s that are really 8s. They must be making 💰 hand over fist.
love the show, been watching for years, however I cant but help to mention that I feel like you left out a huge part of the equation and that is resale value. I feel like PSA dominates in this arena?
You have to remember there is millions of $ in private collections in PSA slabs. Those rich collectors keep PSA at the top by pushing the product. If you take an unbiased look at 5 PSA 10's of the same card they will in most all cases all be different grades even though they are 10's. IMO PSA has the worst consistent grading in the Hobby by far with the slowest turnaround.
I disagree, I notice numerous SGC 9.5s and 10s and BGS 9.5s that would not get PSA 10s whereas I rarely find newly serial numbered PSA cards with noticeable say corner flaws.
In addition to worst consistency and slowest turnaround they also have the worst quality cases and labels and charge the most (by far) for the services. Resale value is the ONLY thing they are better at.
All grading companies are priced too high. Sorry regular guy collector doesn't have a lot of high value to send in at $20+ per card. They need to run a $9 or 10 special (with a long turnaround time) for poor guys and or the graded set collector. CSG is the closest. Love these videos Chris.
It makes sense that PSA doesn't have 9.5 or 10+ considering how many submissions they get and the small number of flaws at that level. The graders probably don't want to spend the time thinking to themselves well is it a 9, 9.5, 10, or 10+....9, 9.5, 10, or 10+.
what do you think about ISA.... ? i know its not big yet, because a new company, so no info really long term, but how do you feel about their encasements Im debating on sending a few cards there, to check them out, but would like to be able to sell, if needed... lol...
Chris, what do you think about the new BGS Gem Mint 9.5 grading scaling converting into 10s. I feel like it might be a big mistake and making the BGS 10 not as rare. Personally I think BGS is making a huge mistake doing this.
@@bobo44donemilking51 I hope you are right and I am wrong because I would love BGS slab pricings to rise. Its disappointing to see the plunge of BGS pricing, and I would love for BGS to make a return.
@@collectorinvestordealer okay thanks yea as I recall the pricing strategy at the time was pretty drastic in fees as well between cards just with overall grade versus overall grade with subs.
I’d love your thoughts on FCG - they’ve been around for 2 years now - I’ve had a fantastic experience with them. Superior customer service, $14 a card - no minimum (I submit 1-2 cards at a time and am treated the same as a bulk submitter). The QR code with the grading sheet explains exactly why my card received the grade that it did. It’s also a 10 business day turnaround. They are consistent, accurate and transparent with the grading process. Added bonus for me is that they are down the street so I save on shipping. Lastly, their slabs are really slick.
The lack of a 9.5 means that the quality of a PSA 10 is lower than the others, and this is an advantage in a marketing sense, namely that it helps maintain the resale value. Imagine half of the PSA 10s being downgraded to PSA 9.5 - that would hurt their resale value immensely.
CSG new slabs VERY impressive. SGC unmatched in customer service and turnaround time at less than two weeks. PSA best labels because they use one solid color other than black and I love how they don't have subgrades, but keep it simple. I really love TAG, but inexplicable they don't grade vintage.
Your research department deserves a raise! This was a great side-by-side comparison.

Great video, but i did notice the csg data was based on cgc pop only as csg pop was down for multiple weeks for maintenance. Also does psa data include non sports as well, they also grade Pokémon. Gap might not be as big as implied, but still significant. Love your content.
I love the sub grading that bgs offers
Don’t forget-you can send cards to CSG straight from COMC now too with the click of a button.
I knew PSA was ahead of the rest, but didn't know the discrepancy was that, significant! Wow...SGC and some of the others will hopefully close the gaps over the coming years.
They won't
Chris, first of all thank you for your content. one quick observation, I'm surprised you don't touch on the shipping cost with any company. I was looking into SGC and found out they charged shipping.
All four companies charge for shipping
LOL, one card doesn't prove anything
I just wonder if CSG will go they way of global. I remember 20 years ago Gai was the rage. Now you can't give their cards away. I'm referring to vintage, I don't know about modern
I’ve tried all of them and PSA has the worst customer service as they will never admit to mistakes and just I feel like they dont care as they do get the most cards graded….I really like CSG and I truly believe that they will make their mark at some time slabs are the best and turnaround time is important …I just flat out don’t like it use Beckett their customer support is awful…I never received an email that my cards arrived or were being graded over 100 days later was my first email that they were being shipped…I use SGC for vintage and will support what they do …the new CEO is awesome and I really think overtime they will dent into PSA…for me I will only use CSG and SGC both have very good customer service and turnaround time
Kind of hoping that PSA buys SGC to become their vintage division... PSA's vintage grading is slow... all of their specials avoid pre-1980 cards...
Curious how BGS’ new grading scale - announced at Mint - will impact submissions. Think they may backpedal a bit.
That's putting it mildly. They will be done within a year or two because of legal costs alone. They've killed a ton of previous slabs value
Still a big fan of CSG, good prices and turn around times. I like their slabs better than the other 3, but SGC is a close second.
That always happen when I post one of these!
I love SGC!
I sent 2 cards in last year to SGC and they damaged both cards. I’m done with them.
@@123mrtippmann well that's not great but I promise you psa damages and has also been know to lose high value cards. The difference is sgc takes care of their customers and psa will try to blame the customer. Good luck
Oh boy I wish you waited a few days. The new BGS Gem Mint is all the rave on Social Media
PSA’s simple scale is by far the best, the difference between a 10 & 10+ with the others is simply a lottery.
The amount of stories speaking about sgc 9.5 like that are far outweighed by one's that say the same about psa 10s.
@@richardbianco9674 Exactly. There are PSA 10's that look like absolute shit.
@@Spongecore_Deathbob more so than any other company. Some psa 10s might get an 8 elsewhere. Even after the change to be more strict
License to print money
@@andrewmarks4640 Yep….and they are printing it.
My csg mantles sold for 90 -95 percent of PSA and csg gives better grades on vintage than PSA
I thought psa does like a gold sticker on super 10s for cards with extra eye appeal
They do not. There is a separate company that will give eye appeal marks for a fee
Psa is definitely on top with resale value. I mentioned it in the video
They must give some slack to print lines on chrome
You have to remember there is millions of $ in private collections in PSA slabs. Those rich collectors keep PSA at the top by pushing the product. If you take an unbiased look at 5 PSA 10's of the same card they will in most all cases all be different grades even though they are 10's. IMO PSA has the worst consistent grading in the Hobby by far with the slowest turnaround.
I disagree, I notice numerous SGC 9.5s and 10s and BGS 9.5s that would not get PSA 10s whereas I rarely find newly serial numbered PSA cards with noticeable say corner flaws.
@@GodofDisco your living on a different planet then the rest of us dealers.
In addition to worst consistency and slowest turnaround they also have the worst quality cases and labels and charge the most (by far) for the services. Resale value is the ONLY thing they are better at.
@@gabriels1163 which is proper up by their big backers.
I stop using PSA. I feel they are the very unethical company. I don’t trust them with my cards
When I’m looking to buy a card, I usually buy PSA for modern and SGC for vintage
Can you do a video is AGS ,I rather hear from you, we trust you more
I am actually not familiar with AGS
How many people are like me and get SGC and CSG mixed up?
BGS just changed their grading system. They do have a Gem Mint 10 now.
Thanks for the video. Will you be attending any of the Dallas Card Shows this year?
I plan to attend the Dallas show in the fall
@@collectorinvestordealer great. If you happen to have any 1991 graded Topps Desert shield I can stop by your table or meet in person.
All grading companies are priced too high. Sorry regular guy collector doesn't have a lot of high value to send in at $20+ per card. They need to run a $9 or 10 special (with a long turnaround time) for poor guys and or the graded set collector. CSG is the closest. Love these videos Chris.
Agreed, most of the cards I have gotten graded with PSA came back as a 9 and are worth exactly what I paid for in grading fees!
Csg and Sgc are the best companies imo. They are so consistent and I really like their slabs.
They might have to actually train their graders to grade if they had .5s instead of just glancing at the card and making up a grade.
PSA slabs everything with 10s you can clearly see defects but PSA just wants that up charge .
what do you think about ISA.... ? i know its not big yet, because a new company, so no info really long term, but how do you feel about their encasements Im debating on sending a few cards there, to check them out, but would like to be able to sell, if needed... lol...
I don't have any experience with them
Chris, what do you think about the new BGS Gem Mint 9.5 grading scaling converting into 10s. I feel like it might be a big mistake and making the BGS 10 not as rare. Personally I think BGS is making a huge mistake doing this.
I will have to look into it more. On the surface seems like an odd move to me
I disagree
@@bobo44donemilking51 I hope you are right and I am wrong because I would love BGS slab pricings to rise. Its disappointing to see the plunge of BGS pricing, and I would love for BGS to make a return.
Did CSG drop the subgrades option?
They dropped them altogether
@@collectorinvestordealer okay thanks yea as I recall the pricing strategy at the time was pretty drastic in fees as well between cards just with overall grade versus overall grade with subs.
Remember when psa express was $75 a pop
I’d love your thoughts on FCG - they’ve been around for 2 years now - I’ve had a fantastic experience with them. Superior customer service, $14 a card - no minimum (I submit 1-2 cards at a time and am treated the same as a bulk submitter). The QR code with the grading sheet explains exactly why my card received the grade that it did. It’s also a 10 business day turnaround. They are consistent, accurate and transparent with the grading process. Added bonus for me is that they are down the street so I save on shipping. Lastly, their slabs are really slick.
Great video. I have just one question, Would regrading a card from lets say BGS 9.5 to PSA would that make it a 10 because PSA do not score 9.5?
PSA would look at each card with their own lens and make their own judgement call
Hence why a BGS 10 is an actual 10.
gj chris !!!!
Sgc for vintage
SGC all the way
P.C.- SGC
Selling- PSA
Anyone have experience with PGI? I have an Ohtani RC thats a 10 from them.
CSG new slabs VERY impressive. SGC unmatched in customer service and turnaround time at less than two weeks. PSA best labels because they use one solid color other than black and I love how they don't have subgrades, but keep it simple. I really love TAG, but inexplicable they don't grade vintage.
