Zipfit ski boot liners: how to put 'em on and take 'em off

  • *I said, "you want to be more upright in a race boot." Here's some context: A race boot is already forward leaning, you don't want a Zipfit pushing you even farther forward.
People either love or hate Zipfits. I think everyone would love them if they knew how to work with them.
It's important to always use this method, not only because it's stupid easy, but because it doesn't ruin the OMfit. Once heated and molded I never have to re-mold a zip fit boot as the OMfit isn't being shoved around while trying the fight your way into the boot.
The strap is totally pointless now that there are laces. Get rid of it.
I also removed the rear vinyls and padding so that my liner conforms better to my shell around the rear cuff.
I add tons of OMfit to the tongue to get me more upright because I ski in forward leaning boots and the zip fit without modification pushes you too far forward.
I also on use the leather interiors Zip fits. The fit is very sticky and performs amazing.

Bless you. I KNEW there had to be a way of getting in and out of the boot shell easier. You’re doing the lords work my man.

Bought my first pair 15 yrs ago. Finally wore them out after 100+ days annually on snow. Just bought my second pair. Best liner on the market. Period.

what model did you buy and why? what boot is it going into? is the boot tight-fitting with stock liner? is it warmer or less warm than OE liner? many thanks - I really want to buy these but don't know which model to get - thank you

@@wallstreetoneil hey there. Ive the Gara. Of which there are 2 models I believe. The model for you depends on your foot and calf/leg volume. Im about to start my second season in a Solomon SMax boot. 130 stiffness. I have no idea how the boot fits w the stock liner. Ive not used a stock liner in years. I always do my boot fits with the Zipfit liner as thats what Ill be using. Also, whenever i replace boots (usually every other season). I go to my fitter (Shad at Cole sports in park city) and he chooses the boot for me. I have zero brand loyalty. Make sure to use the zipfits when you are getting your boots. You will know you are in the right boot when you buckle once in the morning and never unbuckle all day and have no pain. Zipfits also never pack out! I spend 6-8 hours 5-6 days a week in my boots and never have discomfort. As for warmth, Zipfits are WARM! They have lambswool lining in the toe box. Keeps me tootsies toasty!

Just chopped off that grippy plastic layer last night. A pointy scalpel did the trick but man is it fiddly. At least the adhesive under it comes off nice and easily ☺️
Hoping that plus finding a bootfitter to stretch my calf region will be enough to stop the extreme push forwards I’m getting. Plus way too tight in general around my upper calf despite shifting my buckles to give me extra length.
Asked the zipfits guy about cutting off the hard plastic layer and got an understandable “we don’t recommend that kind of modification.”
I’ve got awful calf DOMS from the push forward. Felt like I could never rest them as constantly fighting being pushed forward

Sweet. Was thinking about getting rid of the plastic cuff material on my wife’s pair. She’s getting rammed forward. Glad to see it doesn’t really provide an integral part of keeping the liner together. Nice skiing too 👌🏻

      Hey Tom,
I only remove the outer wrap on the plastic, the grippy stuff.
In a Lange RS I don’t shave the inner plastic, but in a Head Raptor I take the cuff to a belt sander and lightly thin the plastic just enough to make it more compliant to the shell.
I once shaved the cuffs to thin and cracked the plastic on an old pair, so now I avoid shaving it thin.
You, Paul, and Reilly are my favorite skiers.

@@lindseybalser3009 thanks for the insights. And for the kind words. I’ll take note on thinning the plastic too.

I have 500 days on my zipfit liner and still going, used to get 20 to 30 on stock liner and about 75 to 100 on an Intuition

Love my ZipFits. I am on my second pair of Corsa liners. I don’t modify anything and find they are good to go out of the box.

Nice video, but I’m going to quibble about taking off the plastic on the upper. No doubt it takes up too much space and pushes the guy in the video too far forward. It’s not clear at all that’s going to be true for everyone else or even a majority of customers. It depends on the model of liner you have - higher volume or lower volume; your boot volume; your leg volume; and how aggressive you like your boot’s forward lean to be.
I have the Gara low volume. They fit well in my Atomic Hawx 120s without creating too much forward lean.
I also have the Freeride high volume liner from Zipfit. It takes up too much space for any of my medium volume boots but fits well in my Tecnica Mach 1 high volume boots. The Mach 1s have a 12 degree lean angle. I’m not sure of the ramp angle, but the boots are just a titch too upright for me. I wouldn’t want any less forward lean.
Goes without saying, but try your Zipfit liners with your boots before you start performing surgery on them.

My knees don’t bend like that. I’m sure the liner is great but I can’t imagine the difficulty in putting that liner into a stiff (cold) boot.

It's much easier than trying to put your foot in a cold boot the regular way. If you have knee mobility issues, well, I can't really help with that.

How did you take off the matetial off the back? Looks like you kinda just knifed through it but the edges would still take up room. Im having problems with mine and I think its because my calves are huge.

Works when it's cold....dude ya got that wrong...race boots only go on and come off when warm...the shell is so stiff...do another video when the boots are cold...totally different set of variables...I carry a hair drier and warm the boots if too cold to access or remove

“Maybe if you weren’t a guurrrrly man and could bend ze nees after a day on ze schees you could also get ze boots off like zis. Hehehe not a problem.”
Notice boot is a raptor. Still works in -15 Celsius.
Now getting into a boot that cold is another story.
“Only ze rookeez be dumb enough leaving ze boots in truck all night long.”

Doesn’t using a hair dryer heat the shell to the point where you are damaging/ weakening the plastic? I would think that would be a risk.

    • @mrnoodle43
      @mrnoodle43 2 года назад

It's a hair drier not a heat gun...you slowly warm up the boot..obviously you dont put it against the plastic...do that with your hair look out
