    In my experience with Google maps, you need none of this. Download a map for offline use for where you live and surroundings. For places away, like Spain, use local wifi. Bring up Google Maps and enter the from and to, then click "directions". It loads all the data you'll need for the whole route, including surroundings. No need for third party apps or added expense. Always works for me.

    • @LironSegev
      @LironSegev  9 месяцев назад +4

      Not my first rodeo. Once I left the airport and lost wifi it was fine at first and then it just stopped. And yes even with offline maps, the delay between GPS and the phone's map matching the location didn't work. Also loads of road works and closed roads made me go off track which is when things really went pear-shaped😲

      I bow to your expertise and experience, Liron. I must admit I have never tried my approach in Spain but it has worked well for me to date anywhere I have been. I have no data connection nor wifi when I use it yet it always knows where I am instantly (Samsung tablet). I concluded it relies only on a satellite connection once I have my route loaded up.
      I did want to add I always used a Tom Tom device (very poor} then a couple of years ago discovered navigation in Google Maps. I was blown away just now good it is and never looked back.

    is the Google Fi VPN active when you roam overseas?
    Did I understand correctly that whatever phone you have, dual SIM is preferable?

    • @LironSegev
      @LironSegev  9 месяцев назад

      As far as I know, there is Google Fi which is an eSim provider. Ther is VPN which protects your data. You can use Holafly and a VPN for example (which is what I did).
      Google also has a VPN so you can also use that.
      Dual SIM is preferable as you can still keep your existing home number active so you can still get SMS messages on your normal number while using the eSIM to get data.
