As a Maori that’s been living in Australia and hasn’t been exposed to this food as much as my parents have it’s so lovely to see more and more people trying it.
She was perfectly correct with eating the fry bread with the other foods. Maori usually slap that bread through literally every food they had there haha
Absolutely love episodes like this. As an Asian Australian I'm always amused seeing people from other cultures try Asian foods and be in awe/disbelief. With that said, I'm glad to be on the other end, learning more about Māori culture! Would love to try sea urchin and karengo!
This was super interesting. and I like that you didn't go click-baity with it and do the like, "wild and crazy things Maoris eat!" so it'd be like, a spectacle or something. It was just genuine and friendly sharing of food! :) You should do some indigenous aussie foods next
When a big Maori man says calls out the amount of butter on that fry bread, where’s the ratio 😂 It’s the comparison of Paua to a dunlop tyre for me though 😂 A standing ovation for Buzz feed Oz for recognising the diverse culture of the Pacific and incorporating the bro Jordan into the mix giving a solid representation of Maori kai 😃
Tuku te mihi kia tātou Buzzfeed! This was really cool to see, the kina, creamed pāua, all we need is some golden syrup with the fry bread and we are set! 😂🤌🔥
I love seeing how Rizcel enjoyed eating food and appreciated it. I hope they will introduce diverse food cultures and be open minded to try to do anything with respect in the future. I had never seen Maori food before until I saw that. I believe important to educate people to see and eat food cultures to get a fantastic experience from people's culture.
Snacks?!? Put all of the kai together at one time.. that’s a full on feeeeeeed !!! Mmmm but never ever has this Māori eaten seaweed until sushi came along 🤣
As a non native speaker, I struggle so much with Australian accents… but interesting looking dishes. I thought sea urchin was common to eat all around the world where there is fresh sea food. I was surprised they didn’t know it
Kina (sea urchin) for beginners is best on toast with butter, takes away the bitterness as you become accustomed to the taste then try it without....tastes devine 😊
I used to be a regular at Cathys Kai. Yes they have it all and it's usually solid. I used to spend 100s of dollars in one hit there haha. The only one time I had a silent complaint about their stuff, they fixed it straight away without even remotely fussing about it. I straight up looked at it and went "wtf". They just looked at me and recognized something was wrong. I didn't even say a word to them and they asked me to bring it to them and they fixed it up.
A couple of funny stories 😅,my white mate stayed overnight, when I was a kid,we had pork bones and watercress,he told his mum,we was so poor we ate grass😮lol so she organized a food run for us,my mum thought she had won a raffle ticket ,she was embarrassed, and angry 😡😅,we wasn't poor, another time when I was a teenager my mate thought fry bread was some kind of potatoes, and he asked me how you grow them😅❤❤ have a one
Defs more of a 'Kiwi' thing than a Mãori thing. Also how the fuck are you gunna talk about Maori food and include obscure shit that almost no one ever has even once (raw fish, seaweed dish) and exclude Hangi which is without a doubt the most famous Maori food in the entire country.
Kina is the caviar of our sea, but make sure it is fresh and on the beach or boat is the best with the shell in your hand and salt water dripping down your chin, kia ora!😊
Why did you not give the Fry Bread with the Paua ow? 🤣🤣🤣 FYI Yall Fry Bread is traditionally eaten with Creamed Paua yummo without the butter though. The Kina - been here since 2009 and I say the same thing Oysters and Kina the best is in NZ why do you think we take some many trips back home per year LOL
Golden Syrup on fry bread. I eat the entire content of the kina now a days coz I never know when I'll get the next one; my favourite kai. It can't be imitated. Same to the paua. Eat the lot. Leave nothing to waste.
Bro golden syrup on fry bread. Place the kina on a piece of tin foil in fridge for 3 days turn the roa over on day 2 if you like cream cheese hmmm and your welcome.
I remember when i was 8 my Pakeha as family went to Gizzy and stayed at a Marae/Church and we had a massive lunch with everyone there, and this old Kuia handed me what I thought was a tub of margarine for my sammy, and i opened it and it was this strange black looking fishy smelling stuff and I thought what the hell is this in my head. Had never seen it before, everyone had a big laugh watching me discover creamed paua for the first time. Awesome memory of mine.
As a Maori that’s been living in Australia and hasn’t been exposed to this food as much as my parents have it’s so lovely to see more and more people trying it.
I watch a bunch of programming from NZ and some from Australia and have fallen in love with learning about the Maori people and the accent is the best
I hope you've returned to NZ, to your roots.

There’s a reason why most are fat and die young with problems related to the shit they eat.
this was so dope, whoever came up with this and thought of the idea to add a māori voice needs a raise
Nah the brothers commentation in between vids really does it for me😂😂

Great to see Māori Kai featured. But it’s sooo important to pronounce “Māori” correctly.
Sure thing, and maybe in return the Māori could occasionally deign to speak proper English with the use of real words and apposite grammar? 👍
@@fletcherhamilton3177 maybe in return you could just not be racist? cheers 👍🏽
@@fletcherhamilton3177 Thats just new zealand, not a maori thing
I don't mind when foreigners or pakeha mispronounce our language if they are genuinely trying to speak it...
I can’t roll my r’s which I find very annoying because I want to pronounce it and other words correctly.

There's 3 already! Look for the Mob feeds, Native Foods and Maori and First Nations Aussies food swap
This is a dream come true. Been subscribed for ages now, never expected to get a Maori ep.
Love Rizcel eyeing up Tom's plate, like "you gonna finish that kina bro?"
It's endearing how Tom will often drop some item of food, is momentarily taken aback and then looks up with those puppy eyes. :)

The only thing I have with fried bread other than butter is MAPLE SYRUP. It makes it so sweet and reminds me of a pancake.

We do fry bread and fill with savoury or golden syrup and butter

Love the kina reaction. You either love it or hate it lol. I personally love it!
Should have asked for the cream paua back for the fry bread coz 🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤 another level right there
Im from NZ love maori kai....but could never eat kina
Same. Love fish tho 😁
Interesting that they included the Donut as a 'Maori" food.
As a Māori that’s been living in Australia and hasn’t been exposed to much Australian food this video makes me happy .
Jam and butter on frybread yum also use the bun as a burger bun

Agree kina on hot buttered toast and its good.
Australia featuring mullets hard on this channel.

there are alot of Maori that dont like seafood in general
Traditional maori kai. Rotten corn would scare them. Taroi mussels and Greens. Mutton bird. Pikopiko. Boil up pork bones.
